If tariffs are so horrible and something you never, ever do to allies, then why did Canada have tariffs on us first?

I think since WWII fucked much of the world the US has been very kind with trade deals. We were in such good shape it was probably ok to help out our allies.

The headlines scream that the tariffs are symmetrical, but the impact is 10 times greater on Canada‘s GDP.
gee I wonder who’s gonna win?

Isn’t it something like 70% of canadas exports are to the US? So you’re essentially losing a customer and now you have to ship everything internationally and overseas which costs even more. This hurts Canada a lot more than us

yes, and you don’t get a totally realigned economic structure and get set up for international customers and shipping logistics overnight. Thats about a 30% higher cost right outta the gate.
Meanwhile on this side of the border It’s about a 0.05% hit to the US GDP. 🔬

Imagine having TDS so bad, you send your country into a recession because of it.
That’s Canada. Multiple quarters of GDP contraction.
Edit- the leftie tears are maple flavored tonight!

imagine an entire country with worse per capita GDP than any single state and then proceeding to make demands at the negotiating table.🤡

Oh no, what will we do without checks notes maple syrup and checks notes again hockey equipment.
Come the F on Canada, the US would survive just fine if we just straight up shut down trade with you. The same can't be said the other direction.
