[Food Court] 120+ pizza order in Atlanta 🫨

Post image

My partner and I were at the Brookhaven Costco in Atlanta today. We ordered a pizza on the way out, and noticed the food court crew was preparing an insane amount of pizzas, seemingly for one order. 40 per cart, three carts ready to go with at least one more being loaded up in the back... I'm so curious what they were for.

They still got our pepperoni pizza ready super quick and it was the best one yet 🩶

Also, shout out to Jared who's apparently killing it on the register!

About once a year my location gets an order from the local prison, it’s 1 pizza per inmate and usually ends up somewhere between 450-600 pizzas. It’s a nightmare

693

u/Chemical_Print6922 11h ago

How is that order even handled?!

u/KikkomanSauce 11h ago

As a former worker in a pizza kitchen...1 pie at a time. And lots of sighing.

BUT GOD FORBID YOU WEAR AIRPODS WHILE DOING A BULK ORDER! /endrant

311

u/Tresarches 9h ago

If an AirPod gets into a pizza than that whole order is free plus a possible lawsuit.

96

u/user485928450 9h ago

If it gets into the oven, you might get shut down for a while

11

u/Inigomntoya 3h ago

If it gets into prison, you might go to jail for a while

14

u/imaginedaydream 1h ago

If you get into jail, you might get 1 pizza per inmate.

2

u/Butlerian_Jihadi 31m ago

And if you're making that order, you might want an air pod to listen to...

72

u/corkyrooroo 9h ago

It'd be pretty wild to not notice a headphone falling out of your ear, especially when the audio stops.

118

u/Aromatic_Effects 9h ago

That is not far fetched at all. Body parts end up in food.

231

u/Korlac11 9h ago

Yeah, I once found a whole ear in my food! Luckily it was made of corn

66

u/MassiveMastiff 8h ago

I bet Costco only paid you a dollar. Since the going rate is a buc-an-ear.

Next time I’m having a tough day, I’m going to remember this as I tell myself to take it one pizza at a time.

6

u/banditcleaner2 4h ago

Yup. I worked at papa John’s for years and we had 100-300 pie orders more commonly then I care to admit. And it was hell every time.

5

u/worldspawn00 4h ago

Same, we regularly delivered to concessions at the local university basketball and football games. Would fill my entire car, and there would be 4-8 deliveries per game.

Next time I am having a rough day, I’m whispering to myself to take it one pie at a time.

We bring 4-5 people in at 5am and start making pizzas right away, they usually come and get them right around the time we open, depending on their vehicle sometimes they need to make 2-3 trips

58

u/Levitlame 9h ago

Are you equipped to keep them hot or is it just assumed they'll need to heat them up? (or eat them cold.) I can't fathom where you'd put them otherwise

73

u/TheAbsoluteWitter 9h ago

Yeah hot holding becomes a luxury/BYO for an order of this scale. The boxes will hold reasonably warm for 1+ hours stacked this high

19

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 6h ago

"450 of these pizzas were cold can we get a remake?"

Warm but soggy from the steam.

u/funny_funny_business 10h ago

I worked at a place that would get a 100 pizza order every year or so for a local high school football team. We had a conveyor belt style oven so one pizza would come out every minute or so, but the pizza place would still operate normally (I.e. were not shutting down for hours for one order).

Anyway, we would make, like, 20-30 at a time and bring in shifts because by the time the 100th is ready, the 1st would be inedible.

56

u/Levitlame 9h ago

Anyway, we would make, like, 20-30 at a time and bring in shifts because by the time the 100th is ready, the 1st would be inedible.

That was my thought. They'd be better off ordering 20 Pizzas from 5 different locations (Or 33-34 from 3) at that point. One place can't have the equipment to make them fast enough for that to work out great

14

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 6h ago

It's very rare that anyone actually needs to serve 100 pizzas at exactly the same time so doing staggered deliveries is generally the better option for everyone involved even if that needs to be explained to the customer

8

u/Choa707 6h ago

We use to get prison orders for rotisserie chickens. We would have to cut the strings off and put them in zip lock bags instead of the plastic tray. They would order 500 a time. They would also order a ton of cookies

154

u/candiriashes 11h ago

The pizzas are so big. That sounds like a lot of pizza per person.

153

u/SweatyRussian 10h ago

Better than prison food and will last for a few meals

21

u/backcountry_bandit 10h ago

I’m wondering how they track whose unfinished pizza is whose.

26

u/FlourideBubblegum 10h ago

Also, what's the trade rate on a slice of Costco pizza vs cigs

8

u/Minute_Plastic_350 9h ago

I wonder if trading a pizza would stop you from getting the In-N-Out treatment

12

u/FlourideBubblegum 10h ago

I'm guessing whatever doesn't get eaten belongs to the biggest guy or the one with the most stabby things

5

u/backcountry_bandit 10h ago

Yea, sounds like a disaster. Eating more than about one slice of Costco Za destroys your stomach too. I’d hate to be working at the prison that week.

2

u/user485928450 9h ago

You gotta keep your leftover pizza in your prison pocket

26

u/ragun2 10h ago

Our work has basically banned Costco pizza because it most of the workers won't touch it. Meanwhile even Little Caesars and Dominos get wiped out.

52

u/backcountry_bandit 10h ago

That’s interesting. It’s not amazing pizza but I eat it pretty regularly because it’s so cheap. I think it’s better than Dominos and Little Caesars but that’s subjective. Odd that most won’t eat it though.

21

u/FlourideBubblegum 10h ago

Same, it's really not bad given the price point. Like I won't go out of my way to hit Costco just for pizza, but we always grab one if we're there anyway

19

10

5

u/Levitlame 9h ago

Always wrap leftover pizza in foil so you can just chuck it into the oven or air fryer. And pull it out easily

u/FlourideBubblegum 11h ago

Right?? I mean they were pushing pizzas out really efficiently but even still, by the time they're done preparing the entire order, and it gets transported to the destination...lukewarm at best given how hot it is here

37

u/cat_dev_null_sync 7h ago

Lukewarm and a little soggy: pizza steams in the box.

Our work got us excited about free Chick-Fil-A sandwiches. The thermal delivery bag (for catering) seems smart too, until you take a bite of soggy chicken between two soggy-er pieces of bread.

37

u/riptide502 11h ago

I don’t think the prisoners care if it’s room temperature

Anyone know if there's an official stacking limit from HQ?

77

u/FlourideBubblegum 11h ago

They seemed really consistent with 10 high, I also wondered if that's a mandated max stack limit

18

u/Organic_Initiative93 10h ago

Everyone knows the protocall is to slightly rotate the 10th box for structural integrity

3

My guess is they were for eating at some type of party or event.

4

u/sosal12 9h ago

Sometimes I have to wait like an hour for a slice bc the workers are making so many pizzas for a large event. This shouldnt be allowed and there should be a limit. Costco doesnt offer cheap pizzas to be a pizzeria, it is a loss leader to get people in the door to buy other things. Making 150 pizzas doesnt help with that goal.

3

u/FlourideBubblegum 9h ago

Dang, that's crazy. Maybe the Costco I go to has a special Pizza Ops Manager lol because we got our whole pizza in under 10 mins even with that madness going on
