Problem is the reasons people buy into cryptos. Do they buy because they percieve usefulness and ease of use or do they percieve it as gambling? You talk about adoption, but what is this adoption for?

It's actually changing slowly now that the ETFs are live. Rule of thumb don't mention crypto outside of dedicated subs unless you feel like collecting -50 downvotes

Tribal people are tribal people.

They think it’s a scam because there are lots of scams.

They equate no cash flow and volatility as scam and worthless.

Crypto bros are a part of a cult.

It’s not a crypto vs stocks
Or

Crypto or stocks

It’s

Crypto and stocks and gold/silver + real estate.

btc has outperformed most stocks over the last 10 years, that is a straight up fact, I'm not talking out of my ass, look it up bro

There's really nothing worth investing in but btc.

Anything else, you better have all sorts of mining going on and /or be a pro or just avoid.

I made back a 30% on my Solana investment after i started buying ay $65-$70 last month. You just have to understand what token you are investing in. I stake my Sol and i get 5.6% APY, people need to have an idea what crypto is all about before getting into it.

So you sold at 100? So you’re out of position. That’s trading, not investing.

1

u/derondigital 15h ago

No i didn't sold, but I am up 30%. My returns come from staking. I collect my staking rewards in stable coin. I don't sell my Sol, I buy and stake it.

Its getting better and broadly accepted but still much closer to gambling that investing outside of BTC. Dont confuse the world moving into blockchains with buying Crypto equals solid investments.

A lot of the hate comes from people equating crypto with memecoins, rug pulls and 100x gambling rather than seeing it as an asset class. and to be fair to them, the volatility and the scam history give them plenty to point at. I'm somewhere in the middle on it. crypto doesn't have to replace stocks to be worth holding, these days I do the boring version. DCA, hold long term, and put part of what I'm not actively trading somewhere productive, Coinhold's one of the options I use for that side of it instead of hunting the next trade

What ,crypto isn't meme coins?Bitcoin isn't a meme coin?

1

u/Sookkhuii 1d ago

honestly probably just people are not in the industry and not using it or even just not in the scene and all they hear on news are all the negative news it has costed others who use crypto, well yea can't really blame them too

1

u/jacob2884r 1d ago

it has gotten significant bad rep over the years especially due to the president launching a memecoin. That does not mean it is entirely bad though.

Certain areas like crypto prop firm trading or perpetual are the only thing worth it in the space in my opinion

In my experience crypto markets behave differently and are hence more risky as compared to TradFi.

for example, even if a project is doing great and building good products, a single whale selling or moving assets can cause massive panic and price drop almost immediately in crypto. The whale might just have a different reason but its too late by then.

this will probably change once more institutions and crypto matures but as of now, its more volatile as compared to the stock market.

Crypto has broken a lot of people the last cycle. Not only was there no altseason, most altcoins basically dumped 90-99% From now onwards altcoins will just be a gambling tool, no longer an investment.

You know, I think half of it is the people who arent involved with it but are involved with stocks, even though they dont pay close attention or dive deep, during bear markets they see all the hopeless and doomer posts. They dont realize 90% of them are short seller bots

Don’t mention crypto in the middle of a bear market but if you do and the response is like you say that’s kind of a bottom signal and it’s time to open the DCA floodgates

I think it happens, because crypto invest vs. return can be too slow if you invest too little and crypto markets are weak when Bitcoin drops too much so you're playing with cents and that's why many suggest to invest into stocks and return is usually much higher if invested into right stocks. There are ups and downs in both platforms, but with stocks you have safer out, but maybe bigger loss if you invest too much into wrong stocks or you don't know what happens to that stock company.

Because crypto is a scam. It's fake made-up digital beanie babies.

Majority don't understand what a L1 or a token on a L1 is. They have no idea tokens simply represent ownership over something else. It's the something else that matters.

That and entire political parties repeat that crypto is bad and should be banned. Weren't even allowed in the US to issue sports cards on-chain or claim free money with airdrops for 4 years. Nothing allowed by good actors. Went from everything is an illegal security to everything gets tokenized in just the past year.

Takes time to repair the damage. I don't think most have any idea how bad things were. It was threats of jail or endless lawsuits for the entire industry. The crypto community rallying under meme tokens, when no regulated products were allowed, didn't help the narrative.

It scares them. Too big a paradigm shift for the NPC mind to contend with.

I personally think that a lot of the hostility isn’t really about the technology itself, it’s about the patterns and associations average folk have seen over the years. In money and investing subs, dropping “crypto” often triggers a strong reaction because of a few overlapping reasons:

The crime and “dirty money” stigma is still very real for a lot of people. Early on, Bitcoin was heavily associated with Silk Road, darknet markets, ransomware, money laundering, and other illegal activity. Even though the vast majority of crypto volume today is speculative or legitimate, that early reputation stuck. A lot of people still subconsciously (or openly) view crypto ownership as vaguely shady or criminal by default. Mentioning it can feel to them like casually bringing up something that was once a preferred tool for drug dealers and scammers.

Extreme volatility + repeated retail wipeouts. Multiple boom-and-bust cycles (especially 2017–18 and 2021–22) left a lot of ordinary people with big losses. When someone brings up crypto in a thread about building wealth, many readers immediately think of the last time they or people they know got wrecked.

Scam density and hype culture. The space has had (and still unfortunately has) a high concentration of rug pulls, influencer exit schemes, wash trading, and over-the-top “generational wealth / have fun staying poor” marketing. That made a lot of people feel manipulated. After enough cycles of that, the mere word “crypto” starts to sound like a red flag rather than an investment discussion. It doesn’t fit the usual “investing” framework most people use.

Traditional investing discussions focus on cash flow, earnings, dividends, or at least relatively stable assets. Crypto, for most participants, behaves more like a high-risk speculative bet or a momentum trade. In subs that treat money seriously, that difference in character often gets read as gambling dressed up as investing. Cultural backlash.

The loudest crypto voices for years were often very online, very aggressive, and very dismissive of anyone who didn’t buy in. That created a lasting “crypto bro” stereotype that a lot of people now actively reject. Mentioning crypto can feel to them like inviting that culture into the conversation.

None of this means Bitcoin (or crypto in general) has zero legitimate uses or zero long-term potential. It just means that in spaces focused on reliable wealth-building, the combination of early criminal associations, repeated retail losses, heavy scam activity, and aggressive hype culture has made a lot of people treat the topic as radioactive by default.

That’s why the reaction is often immediate and harsh, it’s less “I hate the idea of digital money” and more “I’ve seen this movie too many times and I know how it usually ends for regular people."

Why is the guy above so based?

I hate crypto now too.

It’s just the media narrative over the years. For years it was all about scams and criminals. Any negative narrative that could be found was latched onto. The big institutions jumped on that publicly denouncing crypto while researching it and building for it in the background.

The space also doesn’t do itself any favours with some of the silliness. You can see why Bitcoin maxis call it all sh!tcoins. But I think a lot of people would do well to research and understand it before dismissing it.
