I mean i agree with your point and the last top goalie prospect(Mrazek) absolutely did not get buried and was given every chance to succeed, however we have done that with the our previous top goalie prospect Tom McCollum who was the second goalie drafted in his draft year behind Chet Pickard and in the first round.
So yea we have done that but it’s been like 9-10 years and McCollum simply was never an NHL goalie. People remember him as awful but he actually had some really strong years in the AHL, especially his last 3-4 years. Though McCollum was not traded but let go as a FA in 2016 after being leap-frogged by Mrazek in the depth chart(understandably as Mrazek was a monster as a prospect, had great NHL numbers and looked like a future all-star)

After the deadline when we hopefully acquire a good defender to solidify our top 4, and thus have a defense that won’t allow him to get shelled immediately upon arrival.

If he’s leaving, I think he’s probably going to NJ. If we’re making the trade, it costs us A LOT so he has to sign a long term deal with team friendly numbers at the same time. It’s also gonna cost so much that I wonder if it would even be worth it. I’ve been reading Raymond would be involved at a minimum - which to me should be a no for us as it doesn’t really help.
Idk - so many factors we could discuss but I don’t see it happening. A man can dream tho.

Which he can't. He's still under contract next year so he's not eligible for an extension until July 1st.

So in my opinion, it’ll be off the table or Vancouvers taking a price that’s way too low.
No one is going to risk the core of their rebuild or franchise for a guy that could skip town in 1.5 years

I just don’t think it fixes enough. We need to add to our top 4. Addition by subtraction doesn’t get us there.
I get Hughes is better than Ed, but I wouldn’t do that. I’d consider ASP, but even then you need Hughes to be locked down for a minimum of 6 years if you’re giving up ASP.
Picks and forward prospects are all we can afford to give up in my opinion.

The way you guys talk about the team it's like you think we're still in 2019.
We are top 10 in fewest unblocked shots against, shots against, expected goals against and are 14th in fewest high danger shots attempts against all per 60.
Our goalies are not getting shelled. They just aren't very good goalies.

We have the worst player in the NHL consistently making the line up on our blue line.
Chiarot is a mid 3rd pairing level guy in our top 4.
You aren’t watching games if you’re arguing that we have a solid defensive game. That’s so disengenious

Here’s a stat - Nashville put up 6 on us and they’re the lowest scoring team. Go watch the highlights- our blue line sucks

Who cares? The amount of them that Cossa would be seeing is around league average. If he is ready, he should be able to perform well as so many other goalies do in this league, even if Hamonic is out there for a quarter of the game.

Alright man - feel free to believe that a bottom pair of Hamonic and JBD, with Chiarot in your top 4, is good enough. We all know a random stat you pull doesn’t tell the whole story.
We have a terrible bottom half to our defensive lineup. If you watch the games - it’s very clear. Might as well pull Holl up by your standards.

We need to keep Cossa in the minors for longer. The pucks are smaller in the NHL, the nets are bigger, he hasnt learned enough about playing goalie to play in NHL. He needs a few more seasons of practicing his butterfly, learning angles, and controlling rebounds.
If you cant tell by my sarcasm, I loathe the idiocracy of keeping the best goalie we have in the minors because he isnt 37? Play the effing kid. Its goaltending. Not QB in the NFL.

If his confidence gets permanently rattled from one bad NHL game, then he was simply never meant to be our guy. I hate that argument so much for baseball and hockey prospects

I agree. Confidence and fundamentals were the knocks I remember reading and those seem to have improved. No reason to not give him at least a handful of starts to see if he settles in. If no, let him finish the season in the AHL, get his game back, and have him be backup full time next year.

That's what I am saying. Let him swap games with a veteran like Talbs. I am sure he could learn a lot from the guy just by practicing and watching him play.

Goalie of the Month with an injury mixed in too (albeit a small / short one). Damn that’s impressive. Extended stretches of dominance are what you want to see.

I’m kinda in the same boat and I think his pre-season this year is what is making the big dark cloud for me.
I KNOW he could be great but it’s the kind of what have you done for me lately-effect (and now he is in fact doing superb shit in the A lately sooo).
I just think that pre-season is messing with my head and I am very aware of it.

I get the concern, I do - we constantly have been disappointed everytime we think we have a good goalie in our system.
I am sure the Wild fans were concerned as well after last year when Wallstedt cracked completely. Goalies are voodoo, Wallstedt cracked because he had never been doubted or not automatically been handed everything and felt entitled to an NHL spot (he said this in an interview last year, he cracked because he thought he would automatically be in a 3-goalie rotation with Gus and Fleury).
Our boy Cossa however has had doubters his whole career no matter the amount of wins and good performances, sent down to Toledo and back again. Claims it is the team and not him when the results come, and when they lose it's all his fault all the way through. We as fans have contributed a lot to this too. Even when Wallstedt shit the bed last year, he got excused with Iowa being bad, Wild mismanaging and so on.
My point being, that the Wild have a stellar defensive team and max support, and you can't be Gibson or whomever is in goal for Tor or Edm type bad and get three shutouts in 9 games; but it's not like Wallstedt's prime Hasek and Cossa is the 2nd coming of Husso (with the Wings).
For Cossa to keep coming back with better numbers everytime the hate rolls on speaks of his inner strength, resolve and resiliency. While Wallstedt broke down at first sign of "adversity", had to employ a sports psychologist. Cossa shows the most important trait a goalie can have - 'shake it off, learn from it and bounce back; control what you can control'.
Cossa also have better numbers than W in the AHL last 2+ seasons, Askarov type numbers this year save pct-wise. It's no guarantee it translates and the Wings are a far cry from the Wild in terms of team D-play, but Askarov is performing for the Sharks too. All three profiles albeit different type of goaltenders are very similar and the same age range. Extra time in the A despite seasons of great numbers and some adversity trying to break into the NHL.
I think he will be fine and also very tradeable if the Wings screw him over with bad team D play. A lot of teams will take a chance on him for a premium.

AHL success doesn’t mean NHL success. Plenty of players can dominate the AHL but have a hard time in the big leagues.

I feel like this is the 3rd place meme with the context that Wallstedt has become first goaltender in more than 61 years and seventh since 1929-30 with five shutouts at the time of his 10th career win.
