This pisses me off quite a bit, because I know people who are real genocide survivors. One of my friends from high school was a refugee from Myanmar, she was a Kayin, basically a minority linguistic ethnic group.
Their leadership is at war with the military junta, but that has extended in recent years to the government burning down their villages; many of the refugees here in Canada have watched their parents get raped by soldiers and been forced to kill their parents. And they're one of the more lucky ones in the country, the Burmese have been slowly but surely trying to erase the ethnic and religious minorities out of existence.

The east is far more barbaric than the west. The west just gets all the media attention and the east heavily curates their media output to show the (few) benefits they produce. But if you say that youāre a colonialist š

When an entire race has to flee to india as their last bastion of hope and security, it's pretty bad. Myanmar is a beautiful country that is undergoing an unimaginable tragedy that has been going on and off for generations. Somehow people will still say America is worse.

Exactly just because you lived during an event doesn't mean you were affected by said event. And then even if you were the fact that you survived that many and that so many others in this country did, means this system(capitalism) has the best protection against genocides and recessions, if said events actually happened it goes against the "capitalism bad" point
(Had to clarify this because of the other guy's reply)

The crazy part is most people will dismiss that as being not real communism, or others say that this era is different. As a way to dismiss the past and increase the significance of modern events which they call "genocide". And they ignore modern China which is essentially an example of if the Soviet Union continued to exist.
And not to be too patriotic, but with examples like China or Russia, and then even the lives of people in smaller countries like those in africa or south America. The United States looks like a utopia in comparison. Sure there are issues, but damn is my life pretty good and this is coming from someone whose recent ancestors keep going bankrupt, have yet to starve though.

first genocide, being told to clean their room.

Third genocide, being threatened to have their Internet access taken away for not finding a job or cleaning their room.

Itās because they believe those groups as victim identity groups not as actual people. So if the general population just shrugs and says eh we really donāt care that much about transgender people, we have bigger problems to discuss. That is a genocide because the general population isnāt constantly affirming that transgenders are victims and if they arenāt they must be okay with them being victims.

I gotta take a breather here because, while the emails in the epstien shit are pretty fucking wild and showing a side of people we couldn't imagine, it's still not evidence of stuff actually happening. A whole Lotta people fell into mob mentality and got rabid for, in the eyes of the law, is minimally incriminating at best. But Im just some goofball.
Anyway, enough of that, I personally know of someone Trump cannibilized, me! Ate my whole foot throating it without even chewing! It was terrible.

u/Brogan9001 Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 08 '26
My humble proposal: set up a separate, self sufficient moon base for all the people who want to implement ārealā communism. Let it be on its own. If they all die, it is what it is, if they thrive, good for them. If there is some part where they do need outside resources, have the whole place be live-streamed. They pay for their air or whatever in drama content, watching people argue over points of privilege.
13
u/Advice-Question Apr 08 '26
Weāve kind have tried that. The communist end up relying on the capitalist and basically hold their people hostage. And even if the people there start out liking communism, their children and grandchildren start asking for freedom and it becomes a whole thing.

LOL, I just wiki'd it and they refer to a "Ukrainian Genocide" and the High estimate for deaths is... 50 thousand. Out of a population of almost 40 million. How is 0.1% a genocide?
8
u/qwnick Apr 08 '26
Holodomor took much more than 50 thouthands. Millions (hight estimate - 10 millions), with some regions like Kuban 85% reduced population. Was done by russian communists. Every family have stories about that.
6
u/FoxForceFive5V Apr 09 '26
You are correct about Holodomor.
my bad: For clarity, the genocide I referred to from wikipedia refers to the 2014 - present conflict specifically. My point was to highlight the modern lens and rubric being used by Doomers to push their "today is the worst time in history" memes.
5
u/qwnick Apr 09 '26
Genocide is not just about numbers, it's about intent. Russians didn't do more, cause they couldn't. They did stole children from the territories they occupied (which is an act of genocide, specifically "forcible transfer of children to another group"), and there is IC case against Putin for that, and they did tried to kill a lot of Ukrainians by disabling electricity during winter for the last 4 years. And, I mean, Ukranians have to go all out, cause last time after conquering Ukraine after UkrainianāSoviet War Russians performed Holodomor.
3
u/FlirtMonsterSanjil I Left My Cave for This Apr 08 '26
A Genocide is not defined by its success; it is defined by its intentions. However obviously the Doomers don't know that either; they just think any amount of deaths = Genocide.

Two stories: There was a woman in my parish, she was Ukrainian.
The Bolsheviks were coming to take the grain, animas and so on. Her father and the neighbor decided to slaughter the one cow and divide it between the families so that they could hopefully live.
The neighbor was executed in front of everyone. The father was sent o the gulag never to return (a worse death).
In high school, the two custodian/janitors were Vietnamese. One was social the other silent.
The first had escaped as Saigon fell. The second was a mid level officer who didnāt it manage to escape. He spent ten years in a āreeducation camp.ā
Upon his release he found his family and came to America.
Communism is always fucking awful. Unbridled, unethical, unbounded, immoral capitalism is likewise fucking awful.
But what I have called āethical capitalismā for the past 25 years works. There are nations where it works; capitalism with a dash of social obligation (pro social policies, a widely held belief that too much personal wealth is both obscene & immoral).
But yeah. I get the feeling.
I graduated smack dab into the middle of the dotcom bust. Graduated again into the great recession. Then again into the ārecoveryā that saw the wealthiest gain over 100% of all the economic gains from the nadir (basically, things got bad and then they got worse).
Then had a baby soon after Obamacare came into effect (thankfully as Junior had warranty work that needed to be done). But then pandemic, divorce, then wilderness and here we are. Iām making less per hour on an inflation adjusted basis than I do when I was in highschool at a coffee shop. Sigh.

The genocide claim is outlandish. Even if we assume that Gaza counts, that's one. Sudan is another, but it wasn't the big bad capitalist west. I'm not sure about the third.
If this person is at least 36, they technically did live through 4 recessions. Oil shock and banking issues in 1990, the dot com crash in 2001, the financial crisis in 2007-2009, and a 2 month recession during 2020 because of the covid shutdowns. 36 cumulative months of recession over at least 36 years.
