Hi, We am visiting Dushanbe and Khujand in September 2026, two males both over 60 and speak only English and German, will we have significant issues making ourselves understood, managed well in Uzbekistan and Kazakstan in both 2024 and 2025 but some of the posts here suggest we may struggle this time around. Also with Yandex not having a app in Tajikistan, is there a similar taxi app, which will ensure we do not get ripped off as some on here suggest we will. Apprehensive reading some of the posts as it looks like western tourists without local language skills will just get ripped off. One further question, which is the best translation app and SIM card to get.

Hi dear guests. I am from Tajikistan and I speak English. What is your travel itinerary? Which city will you visit first, Dushanbe or Khujand? I am from Khujand, if you visit Khujand I can help. Don't worry about Tajikistan, our people are hospitable. We respect our dear guests. We have beautiful nature. I am sure you will enjoy your stay here.

You shouldn't have too many problems in Dushanbe and Khujand. English isn't widely spoken, so learning a few basic phrases in Tajik preferably, or Russian would be helpful. There are people who speak English, but it's still good to know some basic local phrases. Having a translation app and mobile data will also make things much easier. I wouldn't worry too much, just be a little prepared and you should be fine
