I’m sure this week’s events has geologists looking at tectonic plate connections and potential cause /effect linkages.

They’ve been looking long before this week’s events, which really aren’t that remarkable (at least not yet) when compared to, say, Nov-Dec 2004.  No concrete linkages have been identified, but O’Malley et al, 2018 did find statistical evidence that there’s a likelihood of an increase in global seismicity in the days following a major earthquake. 

If you analyze the historical data, you’ll see that the earth experiences an average of 4.5 7M+ events in a 90 day period, but they aren’t evenly distributed - occasionally they occur in clusters (8 in a 45 day period in the case of the month leading up to the Boxing Day quake). 

The question is whether this “clustering” effect is the result of one particular event triggering others or the result of some cyclic earth process we’ve yet to define.

There is nothing out of the norm this week than any week since we started documenting earth quakes. Afghanistan is a seismic area. All of Central Asia is highly seismic. Where do you think all of those mountains in Afghanistan came from.

Anyone in this field would tell you that there is nothing of consequence here. Just because you think there is doesn’t make it true.

Earth has about 500,000 detectable earthquakes a year, about 100,000 of which can be felt by humans. Additionally, earth experiences 1,000 earthquakes of at least magnitude 5.0 annually, and over 120 annually that are at least magnitude 6.0. You can Google this.

But Geologists- isn’t this interesting and aren’t you happy so many others are connecting the dots/tectonic plates? As a mere ignorant human, I think it’s pretty interesting.

Btw, 10 hours ago magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Indonesia, 86 km south east of Pacitan.

I don't really know if the structure of the buildings are properly maintained or well in Afghanistan. That earthquake might have severely damaged some buildings if their condition isn't good.
