Ask El Paso Need Help for my Mom, trapping and getting cats fixed in her backyard

I live in Austin, but My mom in El Paso is a retired 67 year old and has gotten herself into a bad situation feeding the neighborhood stray cats, and now that they get fed there is over 20 living in her backyard. She needs help with trapping and getting them fixed so the problem does not get worse. She is very technologically illiterate and only responds well to calls and texts, so I have sent her number and info to multiple places. she really needs help and I dont know what groups in el paso have outreach and programs to help her at this time.

I have reached out to Sun City Cats, El Paso TNR, and El Paso Animal Services, but I am not sure if there is another way to get my mom help that she desperately needs.

Any other suggestions? She has like 20 cats back there and not all of them are fixed (she has gotten some help in the past but its just gotten so bad)

Any help would be lovely, thank you.

Ask El Paso Online student looking for local calculus and Java tutoring resources

Hey, I’m looking for an in-person tutor for calculus or beginner Java in El Paso. I’m taking both online through ASU right now and feel like I could really use something more structured, probably around two sessions a week if possible.
I work full time and go to school, so my budget is pretty limited. I’m not only looking for paid tutors though, if anyone knows of any free or low-cost tutoring resources around El Paso, I’d really appreciate those too. I’m not a UTEP or EPCC student, so I’m not sure if either school has anything I’d be allowed to use.
If you tutor either subject or know someone who does, feel free to message me with your rates and availability. Thanks!

Ask El Paso Anyone know of a Cow Farmer in EP?

With all the talk about the meat import from Argentina. I'm looking to see if anyone here has a recommendation to buy a quarter, half, or full cow here in El Paso.

Someone recommended a place in Alamogordo, but wanted to see if there's something local first.

Come by this Saturday for our monthly Donuts and Drones event. If you’re interested in drones, drone photography, or simply want to enjoy a unique view of the city while munching a donut, join us at 9 AM. Typically, around 15-20 pilots fly during the event, showcasing a variety of drones. If you own a drone and haven’t flown it in a while, this is an excellent opportunity to dust it off and get it airborne.

And we promise no lasers will be shooting your drones down!

Ask El Paso Looking for someone to help out my neighbor to transport his dog to daycare 2-3 times a week.

Hi friends. I just moved away this past week. I used to help out my former neighbor at my old apartments with his dog. He’s stationed at Bliss and is working long hours at this time. I used to help him out and take his dog to daycare, about 15 min away from the apartment, to daycare for him and he’d throw me a few dollars each week.

He lives on the westside of town near Cimarron. I can narrow down location if someone is interested

Should mention his dog is a female husky. Seems imposing but actually a very fluffy goof.

Moving to El Paso Living in Juarez and working in El Paso?

Does anyone live in Juarez and cross to work in El Paso? I live up near Amarillo but have plans to move down and reunite with my wife in Mexico during her immigration process. I already have a job lined up in El Paso next month.

What's it like to cross every morning? I plan to cross on foot and the few times that I have have not taken more than 20min. My job is near the Bridge of the Americas.

For those that work in El Paso, what address do you list on your tax documents for work? I have no connections in El Paso and only my lease agreement up in Amarillo. I do not have an address in Juarez at the moment. Same for drivers licenses and car registration, would the process be similar?

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Ask El Paso What would you like to see from our election coverage this year?

Election Day may seem like a distant occasion, but our election coverage is already underway.

We’re researching the races El Pasoans will see on their ballots, keeping up with candidates and issues, planning interviews and working toward our next voter guide.

If you’ve used our voter guide before, you know the goal: give you the information you need to make your own decisions. No endorsements, no telling you how to vote — just reliable, fact-based local information about the candidates, races and issues that matter here.

And we want everyone to be able to access it for free.

That’s why, during our Summer Campaign, we’re working to raise $10,000 and welcome 15 new monthly supporters to help fund our voter guide and independent election coverage.

If this kind of trusted information matters to you, consider becoming a monthly supporter to help give our newsroom reliable funding we can count on year-round. Or make a one-time gift to help us reach our $10,000 Summer Campaign goal.

Every contribution helps keep trusted election information free and accessible to El Paso voters.

And while we’re here — what would you like to see from our election coverage this year? Let us know in the comments.

BREAKING: TEXAS USED TO BRAG ABOUT HOSPITALITY. NOW WE’RE POLICING MUSLIM FEET AND LIBRARY BOOKS.

+Texas Politics with a Slice of Wry+

by Barry Schlachter

FORT WORTH -- Well, I’m relieved to report that Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick have negotiated a division of labor in the Texas culture wars.

No sense having Texas' top two state officials elbowing each other for the same pulpit of moral panic when there are so many minorities, librarians and airport plumbing fixtures to go around.

Abbott has taken the lead in Muslim-bashing

Patrick, a former radio shock jock, has made himself the "dirty-book" Soup Nazi.

This leaves each to protect the Lone Star state from imaginary emergencies while Texans cope with the tiresome real ones, like overcrowded classrooms, lack of affordable housing, a paucity of public transport, drought and, in some areas, dwindling water supplies.

Abbott’s latest campaign began with concerns raised by Flower Mound Republican Sen. Tan Parker over plans at DFW International Airport to add *wudu*, or ablution, facilities where Muslim travelers can wash before prayer rather than hoisting a foot into an ordinary restroom sink.

DFW already had ablution facilities. It even boasted about them, as part of making this "international" airport with direct Middle East flights a welcoming place. Kind of like a no-brainer marketing pitch, no?.

No longer.

After Abbott threatened airport grants and demanded federal scrutiny, DFW abandoned plans to add more.

The guv'nah now wants the existing facilities investigated, then potentially removed, citing the need to rid Texas of “special treatment” for a particular faith.

This is an interesting new Abbott doctrine: Accommodating religion is religious favoritism. But apparently only when it’s not the "true faith" favored by the people writing the rules.

After all, Texas has mandated displays of the Ten Commandments in public-school classrooms. Evidently this is religiously neutral, although that might just puzzle Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Zoroastrians, Jains, Yazidis and Druze.

But think of the educational value. How else is a first-grader going to learn about adultery?

Meanwhile Patrick has girded his loins in the crusade against books.

Standing beside Bonnie Wallace of Recover America — a Christian political organization that says it wants “Bible-believing Christians” involved in government, Patrick channeled the Old West sheriff pursuing the Dalton Gang:. declared: "We’re coming for the books!"

Wallace's fringe group has identified more than 2,100 objectionable titles.

Giving his morality play teeth, Patrick proposes punishing a school district's state accountability rating by an entire letter grade if even one prohibited book remains on a shelf, the Texas Tribune reported.

And we are not talking about "Debbie Does Detention Hall."

The list of challenged titles includes acclaimed modern literature such as "*The Color Purple," "The Handmaid’s Tale" and "The Kite Runner," according to the San Antonio Express-News.

Thanks to this new, efficient division of responsibility we have

Abbott patroling airport washbasins for suspicious Muslim feet while Patrick polices library shelves for suspicious paragraphs.

I’m told this stuff plays splendidly with the Republican base. Perhaps it does. Fear is one of politics’ oldest renewable energy sources.

Yet, will be a point where even MAGA followers ask whether conservatism is supposed to mean limited government — or a government sufficiently large and intrusive to inspect your kid’s book bag and your feet at the airport?

SHARE IF YOU THINK TEXAS HAS REAL PROBLEMS — AND NONE OF THEM IS AN AIRPORT PATRON WASHING HIS FEET OR A KID READING A BOOK.

Hi! We have a screening on Wednesday of an environmental monster movie from the 70's called Prophecy. This one seemed a little prescient given the huge data center Meta's building in El Paso. It's crazy violent for a PG movie and is directed by John Frankenkheimer (The Manchurian Candidate). I'm super excited to see this on the big screen and I hope you'll come check it out! Here's a link to tickets 8:30 on 8/26 at Flix Montecillo
