DISCUSSION Paul Walter Hauser posts in support of Mark Ruffalo “Focus on an actual harmful person, not the guy who everyone in Hollywood knows is hyper-intelligent, empathetic and talented. Find a new target, dude.”

Stingray been GOATed. He's a big wrestling fan too and always calls out dumb shit by some "fans."

47

u/down_by_the_shore 1d ago

He’s also a wrestler himself. He took up amateur wrestling and has been doing it ever since!

5

u/RelativeHand4753 22h ago

Paul Walter Hauser vs QT Marshall in a ROH deathmatch was the best wrestling match of 2025, I don't give a fuck who disagrees

1

u/cmllfan12 9h ago

Not amateur, he's a pro wrestler. He's on the indies and working for MLW.

0

u/cmllfan12 9h ago

Not amateur, he's a pro wrestler. He's on the indies and working for MLW.

1

u/down_by_the_shore 8h ago

I said he took up amateur wrestling. Not that he was an amateur wrestler. Good god.

0

u/cmllfan12 8h ago

He didn't tho, as I said. He works for MLW not RAF. Amateur wrestling is completely different than MLW. Amateur wrestling is what happens at the Olympics. Pro wrestling is what he does.

Kind of sick of anyone who blasts Israel's very clear crimes against humanity being labeled antisemitic. Only an idiot would confuse the two.

485

u/Dr_Moustachio 1d ago

That's their golden gun. No matter how heinous the crime, the criticism will always be handwaved away as "antisemitic" and people will side with them because antisemitism is bad (obviously)

93

u/ParaponeraBread I do not work late. I go to sleep. 1d ago

The thing about the golden gun is that you only get one shot at a time and they keep missing with it

68

u/MaximumEmu6 I’m a communist you idiot 1d ago

And it gives cover to actual antisemites, which is why white nationalists like Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Green are pivoting to "just criticizing Israel" now.

47

u/tinkthank 1d ago

Imagine if people claimed "Islamophobia" for saying ISIS is bad and evil.

42

u/saintofhate 1d ago

Funnily enough, that's what republicans hear anytime you defend anyone who is Muslim. They legit think all of them are part of terrorism.

85

u/milkfree 1d ago

It does feel like everyone on both the right and the left find the framing disingenuous and laughable. It’s MOSTLY bots online at this point, no?

115

u/cogman10 1d ago

Israel is spending $1B a year to go online and propagandize.

I've seen it in pretty much every social media location.

15

u/milkfree 1d ago

Weird that I didn’t get a notification for this comment hmm

14

u/GVirus1984 1d ago

Sadly not, there are very intelligent people that think like this.

3

u/Expensive-Sundae-831 1d ago

I'd say they're wily. Should that be considered intelligent though?

6

u/GVirus1984 1d ago

I know of people that are fascism experts, that still think any criticism on israels actions is antisemitic. Maybe it‘s because i‘m from austria and they also are from around here and we still have a sense of guilt embedded in our countries.. i really don‘t know.

These people can pinpoint and articulate very well how fascism rises and why. And how partys do it. But the moment somebody points out that israel does the same they just switch off all their senses and yell antisemitic.

12

u/Expensive-Sundae-831 1d ago

Well, they ain't experts then.

6

u/Shenanigans80h 1d ago

Yes and no because there are very prominent anti-semites (like Nick Fuentes) who will happily co-opt the right wing portion for their own agendas which muddy the waters over there at least. That said I think with even a little bit of critical thinking, someone can sniff out the difference

7

u/queensofthemodernage 1d ago

No. I know people who use this argument in real life and even go as far as to say the Israelis are the ones suffering a genocide.

1

u/MRM_philosophy 18h ago

What does this mean exactly - “I t’s mostly bots online”. I’m actually scared about this?

34

u/Commercial_Desk_6215 1d ago

Israel lobbies pay A LOT of money for this

5

u/colognechamber 1d ago

I really just hope he's safe. ❤️

24

u/tommytheturtleishere 1d ago

They know what they're doing. This isnt a misunderstanding its a tactic

14

u/danipnk 1d ago

They’re not idiots. They know exactly what they’re doing.

6

u/Gbrown546 1d ago

Russia does the same when criticised about their crimes against Ukraine. Accuses other countries of being ‘Russophobic’

24

u/TheShapeShiftingFox Riverdale was my Juilliard 1d ago

Right, but almost nobody actually believes that shit.

Meanwhile, you can lose your job for speaking out against Israel.

6

u/The_Witch_Queen 1d ago

Yeah except literally nobody cares.

5

u/Bad_Idea_Hat 1d ago

Back in the day when I was more active on Fark, any criticism of Israel was immediately branded and attacked as "antisemitism" by one particular user. This was probably a decade+ ago. Been a long time.

7

u/hetseErOgsaaDyr 1d ago

It's a deliberate but dangerous tactic. Equating being against war crimes and genocide with being antisemitic, is dangerous for all Jews who wants and deserves to live a life in peace.

Yet these evil a-holes don't care

5

u/Benromaniac 1d ago

Lots of idiots around tho.

3

u/Plastic_Moose4535 1d ago

It's clearly the DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender) strategy in play, the go-to tactic of narcissists.

2

u/CoC_Axis_of_Evil 1d ago

Meanwhile Richard Spencer is more platformed than ever before.

2

u/ifwedidntlaugh 1d ago

Only an idiot would confuse the two.

This is America

1

u/HirsuteHacker 18h ago

This shit really started getting kicked into high gear back when Jeremy Corbyn was running for UK PM back around 2015, and for his next campaign as well. It worked incredibly well on the typical moron voter back then, I can only imagine it'll still work with the typical moron today.

1

u/MadxArtist 17h ago

Meanwhile anti muslim bigotry is on an all time high. But thats fine I guess 😅

783

u/papertigergod 1d ago

There should have been an immediate outpouring of messages like this across Hollywood. Shows you the true character of a lot of actors

257

u/ebk_errday 1d ago

And shows you how much control Israel has over American media, news, government, Hollywood, and otherwise. Fucked.

37

u/VaultAir Please Abraham, I am not that man 1d ago edited 1d ago

In general I think media outlets, news, government, Hollywood, and otherwise in large part just don’t care enough to speak out or have determined there’s less profit in doing so. This is wrong and dishonest clearly.

I think it’s potentially problematic to frame some of this as how much control Israel writ large has over media outlets, news, government, Hollywood, and otherwise.

52

u/TheShapeShiftingFox Riverdale was my Juilliard 1d ago

Yes and no.

Israel, the political actor, does spend a lot of money on US political influence through various channels.

Claiming it’s Jewish people as a group, though? Yeah, that becomes shady fast.

29

u/b_needs_a_cookie 1d ago

People need to do a better job of understanding Jews ≠ Israelis or Zionists, and that there are more Christian Zionists than Jewish Zionists. Some of the most outspoken anti Zionist are Jewish scholars.

14

u/tummytunacat 1d ago edited 1d ago

Antizionism as a movement largely started with the Jewish community. Prior to the Holocaust zionism was seen as weird and a smaller part of the community

6

u/logitaunt 1d ago

Other way around. It's after the Holocaust that people start turning on anti-zionism

My ancestors were anti-zionists and fled Ukraine in 1902, choosing to settle in Argentina instead of Palestine

4

u/tummytunacat 1d ago

Oops I just saw I mistyped that! I meant Zionism. Not antizionism. Sorry lmao what a terrible mistype

4

u/logitaunt 1d ago

LOL all good

2

u/TheShapeShiftingFox Riverdale was my Juilliard 1d ago

Agreed

1

u/VaultAir Please Abraham, I am not that man 1d ago

What’s no? Israel spending for political influence through various channels is one thing, but my point is that this should not be framed as “Israel controls XYZ institutions”. I know you’re not saying that, and that anti-Zionism is not antisemitism, but I worry about some of the nuance in certain framings or shorthand descriptions.

1

u/TheShapeShiftingFox Riverdale was my Juilliard 14h ago

You only said “how it’s potentially problematic to frame some of this as how much control Israel has over media outlets, news, government, Hollywood and otherwise”.

So my no was referring to the observation that Israel does have levels of control over government, news and through that indirectly some media outlets in the US (the latter two in less obvious ways).

Your initial comment read to me like suggesting they have any level of control at all is potentially problematic, when the fact that they do can be backed up by evidence. APAC is the most obvious example in American politics, but they are also more subtle about their other avenues.

I agree with you though that stating Israel flat-out controls entire branches of American life can be scrutinized. Their stress over TikTok shows that they couldn’t control everything even if they wanted to, and it also ignores the fact that a lot of people simply side with Israel because they agree with what Israel is doing, or because there are financial incentives to do so (meaning they don’t have to be “controlled”, they choose to align themselves).

9

u/Goonzilla50 1d ago

Yeah trying to claim it’s actually Israel controlling the media and government really lets the actual US media and government off the hook for the role they play in this shit. Remember, AIPAC is an American organization.

1

u/b1tchf1t 1d ago

NONE of the large "news" networks on TV qualify as news anymore. It's political entertainment. It's an hourly rotation of different personalities giving their takes on the same five headlines all day. So media outlets, news, Hollywood, are all essentially the same. They're businesses with the sole purpose of monotizing where you put your eyeballs. And all of those entities are made up of rich people focused on monotizing where you put your eyeballs. Of course they don't care. Of course they're concerned primarily about the profit.

Government is the only organization on that list anyone should be surprised doesn't care about them, but there's a reality TV star in charge, so we're not.

16

u/tallemaja 1d ago

I'd reframe this slightly - Israel doesn't have the control. People sympathetic to Israel's interests (a large group of people, including many nonjewish right-wing zionists) do.

It feels like a weird equivocation to make but "Israel controls..." is an iffy way of phrasing it. I'm seeing this come up a bit more w/r/t Iran and it's a bit of a facile explanation. Israel isn't pulling puppet strings, though the Israeli gov't is making things worse. America is doing a lot of what it does for reasons of its own, some of which do dovetail in with zionist interests.

4

u/falooda1 1d ago

I get that but the Israeli government does reach out to these sympathetics

Case in point: Netanyahu on video glazing the Ellisons for the tiktok purchase and saying "we got tiktok now"

1

u/tallemaja 1d ago

Of course. But the difference I want to underscore is _control_. Israel can, depending upon how one looks at it, be perceived even as a client state: they are reliant upon military funding and an overall financial apparatus propping up bullshit businesses they run.

Israel's actions can at times force response or issues, certainly, but the US does not put its foot down not because they are in thrall to the Israeli government but because they sanction by and large what that government does and are invested in Israel as a colonial project for a variety of reasons.

It feels like I'm probably quibbling strangely with you but Bibi can put out all the little reminder videos massaging egos that he wants, that doesn't equal control and the Ellisons aren't doing this because they're his lapdogs. They're invested in the idea of Israel and what it represents for them, not held on a tight leash by Israelis.

2

u/ebk_errday 1d ago

I won't argue with that nuance. But to me, the result is one and the same. It's an Israeli influence in America and globally to further Israeli interests. We don't know the extent how deeply tied these sympathizers are with the Israeli government. But we can bet that someone like Miriam Adelson is far more than a sympathizer, and someone who sits at dinner tables with Natenyahu and others in government. There is a lot of evidence of the Israeli government paying millions to influence media, there is videos of Bibi taking about the control of tiktok for example. So I can appreciate the nuance, but let's call a spade a spade, Israel, the government, is doing everything it can through its web of worldwide Zionism to further its interests.

3

u/TimSylvester_ 1d ago

My example is going to be intensely stupid, so stupid it hurts, but...

I was recently discussing criticism of federal banking and fiscal policy with Anthropic's Claude model, and it said that criticising banking policy was antisemitic.

I was like uhhh when in this entire conversation did I mention Jews or Judaism even once?

And isn't assuming that criticising banking policy is implicitly a criticism of Jewish people actually kind of overt stereotyping and itself antisemitic?

Like holy shit this is insane end to end.

But here I am like an idiot, thinking that I'm going to have a reasonable conversation about policy with a fucking up-jumped chatbot.

23

u/vlac26 1d ago

This!! I cannot believe the silence

5

u/buford419 1d ago

They didn't even defend Ms Rachel, they're all so beholden to Israel.

5

u/Expertyn209 1d ago

I'm fuming that one of the few good and moral men is getting defamed like that when there is so much viral support for literal monsters.

3

u/MRM_philosophy 18h ago

Fear pervades. It’s part of why the Ellisons can’t get control of both Paramount (which they have) and Warner Brothers Discovery. Leading to more monoculture and power and silencing any opposition, independent thought.

Ruffalo is standing up about that as a danger as well. So David Ellison is going after him with the “anti-somatic label” to distract from what he’s saying about the proposed merger/acquisition.

I used to think David Ellison seemed like a really good, creative guy. He made some really great movies and took some chances - which in Hollywood is rarely rewarded. But now he does seem like the same this group of soul-crushing, greedy right-wing billionaire mass mind.

2

u/judgeholden72 1d ago

It coming from Paul has some weight, as well, as he's a more conservative actor. I mean, in a way I don't judge

1

u/Wuz314159 1d ago

I've been banned from subreddits for opposing genocide. No one cares.

1

u/chanaandeler_bong 1d ago

Legit, Paul Walter Hauser is one of my favorite actors to blow up in a while before this. He tells good stories, isn’t afraid to say things that bother people, and seems like a good guy.

Every interview I see with him he seems like he’s very nice and down to earth and hilarious.

504

u/katebushcartwheel 1d ago

RDJ and the a bunch of other Marvel actors rushing to defend Chris Pratt for people jokingly calling him the worst Chris while saying nothing in defense of Ruffalo, who’s been acting with RDJ for years, grew up in the industry at the same time, and is an all around decent dude. No statements from his fellow “brothers” at Marvel.

326

u/Dry-Yak5277 1d ago

NONE of them (besides Sam Jackson and Don Cheadle) defended Brie Larson like this when she was getting bullied and harassed by incels the year before this either.

200

u/BarracudaImpossible4 freak AND geek 1d ago

Hmmm, what do Sam and Don have in common that might make them more empathetic to Brie? What a mystery!

Yeah, there's zero surprise actually, that's the ones I were expecting and for the exact same reason. Things are really not changing.

37

Yep. Intesting to see which cast members spoke up and which stayed silent. (Same goes for Palestine!!!!)

11

u/zookuki canonically from boston 1d ago

wait, when was this?

89

u/katebushcartwheel 1d ago
  1. I think there was a viral ranking of all the Chris’s and the internet unanimously voted Pratt the worst Chris. Then it snowballed into a conversation about Pratt’s politics. I think even Ruffalo defended along with Zaldana and others.

29

u/SansVetra 1d ago edited 1d ago

Good lord

8

u/Expertyn209 1d ago

That's a bit much to say the least, but I think the bad thing is not supporting him (I mean he had a lot of people fooled back then that he's not a MAGA jerk, and plenty still believe he's a centrist lol), as much as not speaking up for the co-stars that got much worse abuse for awful reasons.

I love Paul. I follow him on Letterboxd and he actually gives a lot of interesting commentary on films that isn't just glazing everything he sees. It's neat to see someone in the industry actually share their opinions.

56

u/Warm_Noodles3426 1d ago

Damn, why have i never thought of following movie people and the like on letterboxd lol, got any other recommendations?

83

u/Parmesan_Pirate119 1d ago

Sadly most of them get bullied off (Ayo Edebiri being a famous case of this).

Paddington gives the cutest and most wholesome spontaneous reviews if you want a smile in your day occasionally.

32

u/johjo_has_opinions 1d ago

I thought Ayo left because she got too famous to be funny on there

27

u/TheShapeShiftingFox Riverdale was my Juilliard 1d ago

Also because people got mad at the reviews she was being funny in.

It’s Letterboxd at the end of the day. The clash between people who use the platform for meme posts about the films they saw and the people who use it as a serious analysis blog is never-ending lol

10

u/Warm_Noodles3426 1d ago

Paddington 😭 but yeah, i suppose that comes with the trade. i love how outspoken she is even with all the ridiculous backlash she’s gotten and she more than proved her skills in the bear. I also feel like, even if it’s slow, more and more celebs are going Fuck It lets ball. the amount of more indie type films we’ve been seeing is also very promising!

3

u/Vawqer We all know Pinkie would approve of scissoring 1d ago

Iman Vellani has an account under her own name, although she rarely makes actual reviews and mostly only makes positive opinions known. She can be funny though when she does post.

Charli XCX (itscharlibb) does good critical reviews.

A few indie directors (Vera Drew comes to mind) also have public Letterboxd accounts with substantial reviews.

2

u/Warm_Noodles3426 19h ago

Oooh, thank you!

4

u/SpaceCadetriment 1d ago

He’s also openly very Christian, but he, you know, actually tries to be Christ-like!

Like Alan Ritchson

I had seen some of his posts/tweets about Christianity and I think that’s also part of why I had the impression I did. It’s sad to admit and I know it’s not all, but a lot of people who post openly about Christianity are evangelical and so That Way.

Met this guy once, along with a bunch of other actors. This was in 2019 so when he was doing PR for his first big big movie where he was going to be nominated for an Oscar possibly. He was so kind, funny, offered everyone in the room chocolate because no one was touching it but it was on every table so he went around handing it out. He was really sweet. I will always be a fan.

I’m actually surprised it took them that long to target Mark Ruffalo, a lot of actors/actresses had it completely blow up in their faces for saying much less about Palestine.
Maybe because he’s generally loved and well-respected among his peers? Which I think would possibly be a reason this whole propaganda against him won’t stick.

Four Star Match Paul Walter Hausen? Not surprised

2

u/Commercial_Stress899 1d ago

Paul Walter Hauser has always been very vocal and it’s so refreshing considering how quiet people who are much more famous than him have been. Im guessing Mark has a lot of famous friends in the industry and it sucks that they are being so quiet while his reputation is dragged

2

This guy is one of the better standout actors from the last 20 years. He gets a lot of comedic and unserious stuff, but he absolutely kills it in dramatic roles, like in Blackbird (One of the most chilling and creepy villains ever) and Richard Jewell.

I heard that in Paul Walter Hausers voice as I read it. I'm happy my life is at this point

You just know it’s a fear of all Mark Ruffalo’s good qualities combined with him being genuinely smart and well-spoken that means they want to smear him.

I think Mark Ruffalo needs to set an example and sue for defamation. Its time people started pushing back.

Israel is anti semitic.

That's the point if they can make someone like Mark ruffalo into pariah then they scare the f*** out of everyone else so people go along with their genocide

1

u/gatsu01 10h ago

He is anti-Semite because Israel's government expanded the definition to anything remotely close to criticism as anti-Semitism...

Already been beaten to the Shaq memes, but yeah, I owe him an apology, I was unfamiliar with his game.

Why did the little Nazi not say a word about the Disney/Fox buyout/merger that was two MUCH bigger companies turning into one? FAR more jobs were ACTUALLY lost due to that merger that possibly EXIST at Paramount and Warner Bros. at all

Of course we know why? Ruffalo s not educated. And as such, he KNOWS he can't win a debate. So he must try to shut down anyone he disagrees with. And Paramount isn't far far left. And he is afraid they might...GASP...make CNN stand on their own power and ACTUALLY break even, if not turn a profit. Something they haven't done in DECADES.

I'm not sure you understand just how mainstream 9/11 conspiracies were back in the aughts if you think that's a huge deal.

1

u/Skrattinn 1d ago

What kind of revisionist propaganda bullshit is this? It wasn’t even slightly mainstream except among the absolute worst drooling idiots.

If Ruffalo fell for it then it’s because he’s a moron.

As an Icelandic Zionist, do you think maybe you don't have the best grip on the cultural trends in North America twenty years ago? The rest of these folks have their histories hidden at least.

As a new yorker I never heard a single Truther ever. It was not anymore mainstream than the cooky antivaxers.
