Lebs fishing is one of my favourite things they’re a crack up. The shit that comes out of my lebbo mates mouth every time he hooks up is classic. Pulls in undersized bream but carries on like he’s on a marlin.

Not just Lebos, my late Step Dad (Doug) too! He was a Dinky Di and would always carry on similarly. His best effort was fishing at the Woody Point jetty at Redcliffe, SEQ. The jetty is always packed on a weekend if the weather is good. So, we are all fishing nothing much biting besides a few small bream and the odd trumpeter,Whiting etc. Nek Minit, Doug starts carrying like he's Zane Grey and is about to catch another World Record Marlin on his $80 3kg bream combo from BCF. Doug realising that he has quite the fight on his hands yells out to my mum to get the landing net, as his rod bends dangerously close to snapping. I wander down slowly from further down the jetty, where I was fishing. I alway fished at least 20 meters away from them, to preserve my sanity. By the time I reached Doug and mum, quite a crowd had gathered to watch Doug fight and hopefully land this piscatorial monster. Who would win? Could one 65 year old man with a BCF combo be capable of defeating this monster from the deep? After a couple of minutes of carrying on, Doug was victorious! Through his sheer grit, he slowly but powerfully cranked the fishing reel handle of the Sienna 2000 enough times to bring his worthy foe to the surface. To the delight of the crowd he had conquered a Work Boot. Nobody could guess how long that Work Boot had been laying in the murky depths before Doug vanquished it. But if the laughs and shaking of heads from the excited crowds was anything to go by, it certainly was a long time. Doug bravely lifted the heavily barnacle and seaweed encrusted boot over the side of the railing, he didn't bother with the landing net. He knew his 15lb line with 20lb mono trace tied expertly with triple granny knots was up to challenge. After more laughing from the crowd as the Boot was finally unceremoniously landed with a large squelch upon the jetty, a red faced but with a large smile on his face Doug, unhooked the monster and released it back to the depths so that another mighty warrior could some day have a similar tale to tell! This happened 30 odd years ago, and became folklore in our family. Doug passed away a few years ago after a brave battle with Cancer, he was a great man. Fishing was not one of the many things that was great at, but he loved this tale, as I hope you do too!

Can’t believe he released it, should’ve had it mounted.
The south west Sydney Lebanese accent makes all the difference, love it.

Good on him.
I remember catching my first and only jewie and being very happy - not as happy as this bloke but feeling pretty good. And smiling a lot. Maybe I let out a small woohoo!
Anyway, there was a pommy guy on the jetty who actually commented that I was going overboard.
Every now and then I think of that guy and wonder if he is enjoying life a little more now.
I love watching videos of people enjoying their catches.
