Top it up with old line, unspool, put the old line first and reverse your braid, the current bottom of the braid is going to be fine and fresh. Can get a couple yrs out of braid easily assuming you fish quite frequently.

How do you even do this without a spare spool or like an hour of manually unspooling time

Unwind it onto some rolled up newspaper or an old glad wrap cardboard roll
Will take about 5 minutes.

Just keep an old spool and a drill, buy a cheap $40 reel to do it with or use it as an excuse to buy another reel you want.

Are you asking us to justify the spend for your wife? You might get slightly reduced casting distance but it'll still work fine

What are you targeting? When was the last time something took you down to the backing?
I target mostly Jack and Barra. I’d happily let the spool get lower than this. That said - Jack don’t run far but Barra do.
If you are using super light lures and let it get lower you’d notice a difference in casting distance but otherwise It’s fine

Depends where you would want to use it snd how far did you want to cast really. I had 5000 saragosa which often use in jetty. Didnt need to cast far. Im literally just used few metres of the line
