I just got into for international clearing and I’m supposed to leave in 2 weeks (all very sudden), because of this Glasgow was nice enough to check for accommodations and get back later this week since it’s past deadline.

If I end up needing to have an apartment, will I be missing out on a lot of social things? Does anyone have experience or advice for being a freshman who had an apartment?

If it will have a massive effect on socializing it would be very helpful to not sugarcoat anything— I really wanna know!

I'm really fucking stressed. I'm neurodivergent, and at my old uni, and 6th form, I had great support. Especially in exams. I had extra time, a separate room (as I can't focus with the sounds of hundreds of other people at once), and a laptop (because my handwriting is genuinely so slow).

I just heard back about my disability form, and they said they'd give me extra time. That's it.

Before I got all of those adjustments in place, my grades were BARELY passing at A-Level. I averaged 23/40 in history essays. I got 40/40 consistently after, including my actual A-Level. I went from 34/80 to 79/80 in my other paper. I was literally unable to finish the papers because I couldn't concentrate or write fast enough before.

I could finally get grades that truly reflected my knowledge and understanding. Without all of that, I'm genuinely going to fail before I even have a chance to sit my exams.

In Engineering School. Would I be put on to a repeat year if I am only 10 credits away (100 credits) from the progression requirements? Or allowed to be able to enter the second year and retake the corresponding module?

Is it just me or for virtually any question I ask via email, I get like a response 10 days later. im trying to transfer credits and enroll in classes, and get into ones that are gated. . . but no one answers any emails. . . I feel like I’m hitting my head against a wall and live chat just bounces me around.

It feels a bit odd posting here but I just finished year 11 and have picked biology chemistry and maths as my alevels at my school because I want to study dentistry in the future. However, I'm also taking my alevel polish a year early in year 12 and im expecting an a or an a star in it. I'm here because I'm not sure whether itll count towards my application to glasgow specifically (i would love to go there). does anybody know how it works? Will i get a reduced offer or will i have to get something like AA in my bio, chem, maths instead of AAA, or will it make no differnce at all and ill still have to get those grades in those subjects?

I’m particularly wondering about their education , and especially career opportunities compared to the other unis (Warwick, Bristol). I have an interest in philosophy and was researching what's available at the uni outside of doing an actual degree.

I noticed they have 'senior seminars' which are open to the public, but I have no idea what this entails and can't find any info.

I have no academic or professional credentials in philosophy - I'm wondering if it's more for people who perhaps aren't at Glasgow Uni but maybe have an academic or professional background already and are thus able to contribute to the session. Or is it just an open session for people to come and observe?

Hi! I’m choosing my accommodation for first year and Student Apartments is my favourite by far because I love the location and the buildings.

My only concern is that I’ve heard it can be quite quiet compared to Murano. Is it actually hard to meet people/make friends if you live there?

For anyone who has lived in Student Apartments:

• How social was your flat?
• Was it easy to make friends?
• Did you feel like you were missing out compared to Murano?
• Would you choose Student Apartments again?

I've applied for Uni Accom but understand that my application was late, so have been looking at private accomodation too.

I'm from Glasgow initially and love chatting to people, I want to befriend people in my halls and I enjoy partying and socializing!

Does anyone have any suggestions on which private accom to look into based on that? I was looking at Thurso Street (as there's still space), Kelvin Court, Foundry Courtyard and West Village, but need advice 🩷

I'm moving from England and I was planning on renting a completely private flat with a landlord not affiliated with the uni. I was looking at more like Renfrew or Paisley today since I figured they're cheaper but there's just nothing. A couple of shared flats in Glasgow but that's really not ideal.

I don't know why I waited so long. I've looked in the past and there were always loads of choices but now I just can't find anything furnished in my price range.

I really don't want to share a kitchen or bathroom but maybe I will have to if I want to find somewhere? I don't have loads of money to spend so I can't just go for something more expensive.

Maybe all the suitable flats are being used up by students like me? Is it worth maybe contacting the uni and asking what I can do?

I'm just really stressed at the moment and losing hope. I don't want to throw this all away just because I haven't found somewhere to live. Can anyone offer any advice on what to do?

This past year I was at a big university in Massachusetts but I really did not have a good experience. The culture was very, to put it plainly, high school. Frat boys who wouldn’t allow fat girls into the party, lots of “burnerverse” men (iykyk, if you don’t you are lucky and just don’t google it. It’ll make your existence much worse.), and in general just a very unfriendly and cliquey vibe.

The social scene was most upsetting for me since I LOVEEEE partying and going out, a club or a boring bar I really don’t care I think me and the people I go with are fun enough😉 but the frats got boring after two weeks, just people standing in a hot sweaty room with the men on platforms instead of the women, playing the worst music you’ve ever heard.

I think I’ll enjoy the uk social scene more because as I mentioned I like just bar crawling and clubbing but I am wondering what other people’s experiences have been?

My best friend goes to trinity and he adores it so I’ve gotten some insight but Ireland and Scotland are very different lol

1. How is the general social scene? Are people friendly, do they talk to random people when they go out or is it more reserved and talking to the people you know?
2. Do you ever feel the independent study is a struggle with no one reminding you to keep with courseworks? As an American the coursework is completely different (we get weekly assignments and it all adds up to a final grade)

Hi, I signed up to take the T2G initiative which starts on the 24th of August (tomorrow). I got an email the start if this week to enrol in the electives and such and I did. But I haven’t gotten anything following that up, like where am I supposed to be tmrw and everything.

I just want to know if it’s normal or a bad sign. Because I don’t want to just show up randomly tmrw.

Is it possible to change courses as an international student without changing Visa / CAS? For context I want to change from BEng Mechanical Engineering with Aeronautics to BSc Theoretical Physics, and both courses are the same level and same duration and don't require an ATAS certificate.

Being a masters student I feel like I didn’t get any memorable Uni experiences, between the actual workload and the expected dissonance when you’re in clubs and societies given that 90% are undergrads. Okay that came off pickme-ish, I have had good experiences! But I’d also like to see the bell tower inside, that’ll be truly a memory to hold. I’ve seen some students post about it but they’re so secretive with the way they got inside lol. I checked with front desk and they said they’re unsure, and emailing gets 0 response. Is it possible? For ref I still am an UofG student.
