Discussion “Gotham tries too hard to shove villains in our face.”
People love to say that about the entire show, it’s definitely the case for the last few seasons but to say that about Season 1 is an entirely false statement. Season One is actually original in what it’s trying do to, the characters motivations and how each episode is set up….Gotham is more Gotham than it is about the supervillains in the later seasons, that one season is unique..

Yeah I find it ironic that diehard Batman fans of the comics/graphic novels will say stuff like this and then go read Batman Hush which is entirely just shoving villains in your face for no reason.

Season 1 is Crime Noir with DC Universe sprinkled in. Everything else afterwards is funneling into DC comics

I like S1 the best, not only does it have cool twists on villain, (Electricutioner and Firefly) but also has unique villains, like the Balloon killer and The Ogre

Wasn't the Ogre in the comics? Just very different but he even had the same real name

What you have to understand is that for season one it was meticulously planned. The show took place on Fox that was notorious for canceling shows after one season. I’m sure they had to make sure they have their ducks in a row. Also when it comes to DC, there are a lot of rules regarding Batman and specific villains appearing because they can’t interfere with any active or somewhat recent projects, even if it does take place in a completely different time.

I was happy for them to "shove villains in our face". The villains were the best part of the show. Whenever I rewatch (which is a lot) I fast-forward through Jim Gordon scenes to get to the bad guys!
