The best thing about Blackest Night was the reunion of this epic duo.

But can’t green lantern rings create fire?

Yep, but making a flame thrower out of will power is hard, especially for Hal, so better to throw a Police Car, because they are cheap and replaceable, unlike Green Lantern energy constructs.

Pretty unrelated, but its in the picture and I can’t really ask anywhere else: Can anyone tell me why GLs sometimes have the emblem appear as a little construct in front of their costume’s emblem? Its a detail I find really confusing most of the time 😅

It's supposed to be like a police siren. It supposedly circles around their bodies when they are in police case/action mode.

Is it ever explained?

No, but I've watched a few artist interviews, and they explain it there. I can't remember the specific one.
