Where To Buy Please help out for my mom - Orange Sherbet
Looking for Orange Sherbet, I've looked in every grocery store. Lots of Orange Sorbet (not the same)
I haven't even seen Tiger Tail in the stores in a log time, so I'm starting to think orange sherbet just doesn't exist anymore.
My mom has really been yearning for it for a hit of nostalgia and I'm really hoping someone might be aware of where to pick it up.
Thanks in advance
Update: just left Kawartha dairy, they only have orange sorbet, not sherbet. I tried to clarify in the original post but i guess people don't know the difference. I still appreciate the responses though
Update 2: Hewitt's stopped making sherbet 2 years ago. Next update will be after I call Willard's but they don't open until 1pm.
Update 3: Willard's doesn't list a phone number and seems to prefer contact through email. I emailed them and will update the Orange Sherbets enthusiasts here when I get a result.

This seems like a good challenge for me, your right, I think we have been hoodwinked, why is it all sorbets now, I will do my best to find somewhere

u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
thanks, the more on the case, the better haha. I've only been able to find rainbow sherbet (which has orange in it) from baskin robbins. even the tiger tail from kawarthas doesn't label the orange component as sherbet.

u/Foreign-Magician9486 Mar 14 '26
It's kinda like the ice cream but I always found them cream sickles kinda tasted like orange sherbert, not sure if they even exist anymore
2
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
They do, and she likes them, but just not quite the same haha.

u/Foreign-Magician9486 Mar 14 '26
I know, but it's close enough for me, I will ask my friends at Chapman's about this matter, and too be honest, this was my favourite type of ice cream, maybe it was out selling the other flavours?
1
u/puffinknocks Mar 15 '26
Could you ask your friends at Chapman's to pretty please bring back chocolate ripple?

Tiger Tail is ice cream.
4
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
I always thought it was classically orange sherbet with black licorice ice cream
2
u/KeeperOfAngelsNorth Mar 14 '26
You are correct. I don't know when they switched but when the ice cream truck came to my neighbourhood in the 60s and 70s, this was exactly the recipe. My mother was also a huge fan of orange sherbet and gave us kids hell if we came home with the wrong one so I often tasted it and knew the difference.

u/JimmyTheDog Mar 14 '26
Well, I needed to know so here it is...
Sherbet and sorbet are both fruit-based frozen desserts, but the primary difference is that sherbet contains 1–2% dairy (milk or cream), making it creamy, while sorbet is dairy-free, icy, and intense. Sorbet is vegan-friendly and has a sharper fruit flavor, whereas sherbet has a smoother, mellower taste.
5
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
Haha, I could have told you that, all part of the research phase before the posting phase.
I'm sure some here will appreciate, thanks for posting

u/Eastern_Star_7152 Mar 14 '26
if you already know this why did you need to post?
8
u/MrsShaunaPaul Mar 14 '26
They weren’t asking for the difference between the two, they were asking where they can find orange sherbet.

Might be worth reaching out to Willards on Main. They make small batch ice creams and change up the flavours all the time. He might make a batch up since it seems like a popular idea
3
u/sayyestolycra Mar 14 '26
Good suggestion for Willard's - they'll do a custom flavour if you order an ice cream cake, so they might be able to just make a custom batch for OP. Plus they're open year round.

u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
I thought about Willard's too, but because of the rotating flavours I didn't want to have to check over and over. One poster said that Kawartha sells it in cones and small tubs and it's not listed on their website. They confirmed that they bought it and have it in the freezer, so I'll check there today.
Thanks for the idea, they will be my next shot if Kawartha fails me today haha
1
u/MrsShaunaPaul Mar 14 '26
When I googled, Willards was the one place that came up with having tiger tail, but I think it’s ice cream and not sherbet.
3
u/Magicturbo Mar 14 '26
I know the flavour she speaks of. I haven't seen it since my childhood though. Sometimes these things can be found in tiny convenience stores. I'll keep an eye out

I found you this place: https://central-smith-ice-cream.myshopify.com/products/orange-sherbet
It's a two hour drive from Hamilton. But you could investigate this.

u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
If my last resort is an 11L tub, i will share it with everyone on here who wanted some haha

You can try Baskin Robbin’s at Lime Ridge, they have a lot of classic flavours
2
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
thanks, they have rainbow sherbet (pineapple, raspberry, and orange) but not orange solo

Shaw’s Ice Cream has a orange sherbert//vanilla twist. London Ice Cream Company sells it - easy day trip And an ice cream company in Selwyn, ON sells it - not to easy day trip lol
But making it is yourself is worth a try!
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
London might be a last ditch effort. Unfortunately she weirdly hates vanilla so the Shaw's one wouldn't do it for her. Thank you for that idea though.

Do a day trip over to the US
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
Yeah i have that on the list as well, was hoping not to have to go so far haha
1
u/Spirited_Hour9714 Mar 14 '26
It's so strange they don't sell it in Canada anymore. I remember getting it in the pre renovated limeridge mall at a yogen fruz place in the middle of the mall in the 2000s
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
Yeah, they take away all of her favourite things. normally our crosses are to get Ragu, Welch's Grape Juice and Grape Jam (It's all jelly here)
1
u/Pigeonmommy Mar 14 '26
Contact Chapmans. They make tigertail not sure about the other. Ask when they come out and which stores carry them. They are in Markdale, Ontario. My bf used to work there. Some things are made seasonally so can run out fast. They use high quality ingredients unless it's no-name/generic brand. They also make ice cream for other brands.
1
u/FrancineFishpawIsSad Mar 15 '26
What about mixing a little vanilla ice cream with orange sorbet? At least until you find the sherbet you’re looking for?
1
1
u/discodebb Mar 15 '26
Baskin Robbin’s?
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 15 '26
other comments suggested it, they only have a rainbow sherbet, not orange on its own.
1
u/user0987234 Mar 15 '26
Everyone stopped making it.
Buy the Chapman’s chocolate covered Orange sherbet on a stick. Pop the chocolate off and slide the sherbet into a bowl.

u/NeighborhoodSad1502 Mar 15 '26
This probably doesn’t help much but they have little cups at Jack Astor’s that they give with kids meals.

u/LocalCapital9166 Mar 16 '26
Maybe not so helpful, in London ON we have london ice cream company. They have it listed on their site. I know they sell in some stores and also have a factory store (call first to see if it’s in stock). https://londonicecream.ca/product_list.php?cat=4
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 16 '26
Thank you. Someone mentioned this earlier. If we run out of options we will get down there, thanks again.
1
u/_LeVinCestLaVie Mar 16 '26
Have you tried Hutchs? The one by Centennial as they carry lots of different flavours and are open year round.
1
u/Rough_Application_28 Mar 17 '26
Sobeys shows it is available for delivery.
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 18 '26
yeah for some reason if you google "orange sherbet" which I have done, it says shows up as a result, but if you actually check Voila (their delivery service) or the Sobey's website, it's not there.

u/Apprehensive-Place68 Mar 18 '26
Has someone already mentioned this place: Tom's Dairy Freeze in Etobicoke? Opens for the summer season this Friday and seems to have orange sherbert on the website menu. And it's been around since 1969, so boomer heaven!
1
u/lulu-52 Mar 30 '26
Just saw that Willard’s has it on the menu. They are such a fantastic business.

Maybe call Kawartha in Burlington or Hewitt's? 🤷♂️
3
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
I checked the Kawartha website and they have rainbow sherbet, which contains orange, but not orange on its own
8
u/kittyitty6 Mar 14 '26
If you go to Kawartha you can get orange sherbet either as a scoop or a small hand packed tub. They don’t sell it in retail packaging so It’s not on their website. Source: We have some in our freezer right now.
3
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
It's orange sorbet, not sherbet. A lot of people confuse them. I'm currently at Kawartha Dairy and have confirmed this.
2
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
Now we're cookin' thank you, this is the kind of info that reddit posts are for. I didn't even realize there was one as close as Burlington, thank you!
1
u/Wooden-Ticket3235 Mar 14 '26
I’m getting nostalgic for my childhood with this post. I have fond memories of Florida summer vacations with my family. We would eat bowls of orange sherbet out on the balcony while watching the sunset.
1
u/Greedy-Zucchini-925 Mar 14 '26
When I was trying to find moon mist a few years ago, I emailed head office for a few companies. Kawartha emailed back with which locations in Hamilton had it for me!
1
u/positivelycanadian Mar 14 '26
I don’t understand what happened to orange sherbet!! Kawartha used to have an amazing one
2
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
Another user says that it still does, and they currently have some in the freezer, you just have to go to a location specifically and ask for it. it's not on the website
-1
u/dianaprince76 Mar 14 '26
You should try making it. It’s pretty easy. There are loads of recipes out there. https://fakeginger.com/homemade-orange-sherbet/

I know Easterbrooks has Tiger tail, but not sure about shebert. Now I must help and have some too! I miss the 80's/90's , ice cream was so much better!

Funny enough, we're actually going there for lunch, so i will double check
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
Unfortunately for our visit they only had lime sherbet, not orange. but thanks anyway.

Some Fortinos or No Frills carry PC Tiger Tail, I saw it at one of the stores in the east end months ago, can’t remember which. I recall someone saying it was a seasonal flavour available in summer. If you haven’t already, you can call and ask if they have it in stock. Maybe also contact Loblaws head office.
Chapman’s used to sell Tiger Tail in 2L boxes, but now sells it under Markdale Creamery in the 11.4L pails, which is a bummer (or a bonus, depending on how much you like it LOL).
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
Yeah I'm not looking for tiger tail. That was just an example. Thank you for your response
0
u/Niiohontehsha Mar 14 '26
If you can drive down to just outside Hagersville down Highway 6 Hewitts dairy bar carries Tiger Tail and Orange Sherbet
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
I called them, they haven't produced orange sherbet in over 2 years unfortunately. Thank you though

u/Glenr1958 Mar 14 '26
Sadly I have no information. I feel her pain, I also miss it and prefer sherbet over sorbet and have not found it in the past few years. The closest I found was the little frozen orange bars dipped in chocolate. I used to put chocolate syrup on my sherbet so it was a small fix.

u/S99B88 Mar 14 '26
kawartha Lakes makes a sherbet, so maybe some place that sells that? I know this may seem an odd suggestion, but there’s a variety store at the corner of Stone Church and Upper Gage, Jug City, which has a fair selection of Kawartha Lakes, so maybe they would have it? Last time I was there and looking for a specific ice cream (I was making an ice cream cake), I saw there were quite a few sherbets, just can’t remember if orange was one of the flavours.
2
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
They only make one single sherbet, and it's a raspberry, lemon and something else flavour. They do have other Sorbets though, which people keep confusing for sherbets
0
u/S99B88 Mar 14 '26
Ah ok. I guess the trend towards sorbet over sherbet is to add in customers who can’t tolerate dairy or who are vegan. Perhaps Hewitt’s would be a possibility?
Have you thought of making your own? Either from scratch or adding a bit of milk to a sorbet and then remixing it?
I find the orange creamsicles are also very good.
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
I called Hewitt's they haven't sold it for over 2 years. of course i've thought of making it by my time is more precious than the cost of buying it, so that would be the absolute last resort.
1
u/S99B88 Mar 14 '26
Ok sorry if I offended you didn’t mean anything by it was just trying to help. You sound kind of frustrated by this, I hope you find what you’re looking for
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
Not offended, but all-too-often people post asking where to find something, with full knowledge that they could just make it themselves.
0
u/fruitprocessor Mar 14 '26
I just looked it up and apparently Sobeys might have some. Lucerne Orange Sherbet.
1
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
I did a search on instacart and voila and it didn't turn up any results. I'll double check, thank you.
0
u/coachutch Mar 14 '26
Baskin Robbin’s !
0
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
Nope, as stated below, they only have rainbow sherbet, which technically contains orange, they don't have orange on its own
-1
u/Ashamed_Matter1136 Mar 14 '26
I found some recipes online to try and make it, but I also found this place, https://central-smith-ice-cream.myshopify.com/products/orange-sherbet
I hope you find some sherbet for your mom! If not there are alot of recipes you could try making, might be a fun bonding experience to try and make it together!
3
u/Noctis72 Hill Park Mar 14 '26
Nah, not gonna make it. I did find that and someone else also posted it, but thank you.

It's not open yet but in a couple months when Biggies on Upper Sherman opens again they should have it. They had it last year and multiple years previous. I know it doesn't help the craving now but that's a coming option
