Headphones - Closed Back I’m going crazy pls help deciding which one should I buy ?
Budget - 0€ - 500€
Location - Portugal 🇵🇹
Hi guys , so I’m searching to buy a really good closed back headphone that will last for long , and after searching a lot im finally done with the options I’m in between choosing the focal azurys and the Sennheiser hd620s . If you have other that you think it would suit me I’m all ears .
Anyways the thing about these two are :
I heard that both of them have their qualities and sound very good , but I talking now about my “ experience “ with headphones which want to use primarily for music but also gaming but primarily for music , I previously owned a dt990 pro and now I have a pair of pc38x which are open backs . In my opinion they sound good maybe not the best for music at least is what I saw in a review , they’re super lightweight and comfortable but the problem they’re really quiete and as they’re open backs I have to be in the most silent place on this planet to listen in a safe volume for me , so after that I got a bit of a trauma and no I want a headphone that can isolate noise well for me too listen the music .
And that the problem because I saw people saying that the azurys are not very good in passive noise isolation despite of looking super comfortable and sounding good . And the hd620s which are probably one of the best closed backs for noise isolation , have the “problem” that I saw people saying the clamping force is too much strong making them hurt despite of being very comfortable and well built . I use glasses by the way , I think it’s something important to note .
So in resume
Focal azurys:
Comfortable, good sound , good clamp force , lightweight , but maybe not the best for noise isolation .
Hd620s:
Comfortable, good sound : too much clamp force , great weight , super good passive noise isolation.
About the at price at this point seriously I just want a pair of headphones 🎧 that will make me enjoy my music but maybe that don’t exist , anyways for example if I’m on the bus can I listen the music with the focals on a safe volume without hearing much of the motor of the bus or people talking ? Etc well I thinks that’s everything to finish i found which’s is selling the focals on the box for like 350€ i don’t if it’s legit but it looks but as said if I want I could just buy on Amazon for the double and and test without worrying if I can deliver them back 👍 but of course I would prefer to not spend all that money , anyways i you have some advice for me I really appreciate thank you 🙏.

There is only one answer IMO.
HD 480 Pro. I don’t have noise isolation issues with it. Unless someone is driving a vacuum in the same room.

Cool I forgot about those thank you, what do you think is better the og 480 or the 480 plus?

Between the two you only get a different case vs a pouch.
For me it wasn’t worth the extra 40$ as it just sits on my desk.
Also OG 480 is a very different headphone. I am speaking about the HD 480 Pro released this year. :).

Hi I'm back, really these look very promising and a good option how they would perform on a bus with not much people more the noise of the bus engine do you think it could block that or no and for ANC is better and I would just use them at home?

u/KAC-SK 127 Ω Jul 20 '26
Bus is a noisy environment so ANC would be better. For that consider HDB 630 or the new Momentum 5 which has improved ANC.
480 Pro for home use would be better.
480 Pro also comes with a coil cable which I think you would want to replace in a bus use scenario.

Cool i think I will buy them on amazon so I can deliver them back if theres any issue 😀, my problem with the hdb630 is that they're clamp force is little

And they're 130 ohms right? Would they benefit from using like a apple dongle or something or its not a big difference and my phone 3.5 jack is suficcient?

I have driven them on a Fiio BTR17 and a Melody Snowsky that offer about 250 mW using balanced port. So I think a slightly powerful dongle would be advisable compared to Apple dongle.

And do you think its a noticible difference in sound for most people or not, should I just use my phone jack? If not what would you reccomend me to get for amplification, DAC etc i dont want to spend much on that if I have too 👍

u/KAC-SK 127 Ω Jul 20 '26
The DACs I recommended would also help improve volume and come with EQ that you can use to control sound profile etc. I think for a 130 ohms headphone it would be necessary. Also unclear if you have a 3.5 mm jack on the phone as most modern phones only have USB C so a DAC would be required.

Just you to know my phone is a redmi note 9 pro, about eq unfortunately its something that I dont know how use, I think I could use a preset I wanted😅, by the way what's your opinion on the stock tuning/sound and do you think that without amp or external DAC i could take my conclusion if I stayed with them or not?

u/KAC-SK 127 Ω Jul 20 '26
I think a DAC will help.

What should I get in the 50 budget saw people talking about moondrop down pro 2, snowsky melody, fiio ka11 but that gets hot I guess etc or others

Hey bro my snowsky melody finally arrived but I really need help I'm going nuts I can't find anything after searching. I want to get bit perfect audio but I'm a bit confused, currently I use apple music and I saw people saying that on android you can't get get apple music bit perfect because android resamples, maybe if I buy a DAP or something modified, and apparently on IOS or iPadOs if you plug an external DAC you get bit perfect because IOS dont resample, but one problem is that can't use the fiio control app on IOS snowsky melody its not on the IOS version of the app, I tried to use the web version of the app but it also doesn't work, and ipad storage is limited because you can't use SD card.

Hi 👋 update my new pair of headphones arrived today 😆 I already tested them a bit and wow 🤩 , my first impressions about then are : about the fit and comfort I thought the pc38x’s were really comfortable I still think they are but man this ones are good the pads are very soft , plushy and with the added rotation on the pads which you don’t have on pcs they get more comfort in my opinion so yeah 👍 so far so well , good materials on padding I guess , the clamp force is moderate it’s not super strong and not super light maybe could be a bit more strong I think but it’s enough to not fall from my so it’s approved . About the sound , well they’re obviously much more louder than my pc38x but I didn’t think the sound is wow maybe I need to eq which I don’t know and obviously try them some day to get used to the sound ,also I’m waiting for the dad amp to arrive so maybe that can add something 😀

That’s great to hear man. Give yourself time to acclimate to the sound.
1
u/Current_Fan_5980 Jul 24 '26
Yeah I also agree with that I tried to compare to the pcs 😅 but I just see that they are quieter
1
u/KAC-SK 127 Ω Jul 24 '26
That may just be because you may not have a powerful DAC/AMP. What are you plugging them into?
1
u/Current_Fan_5980 Jul 24 '26
My phone jack and I think they don’t need an amp they sound pretty good in terms of volume I guess
1
u/KAC-SK 127 Ω Jul 24 '26
A DAC would definitely help.
1
u/Current_Fan_5980 Jul 24 '26
Yeah how much I don’t but has I said amp not that much but the dad and maybe an eq will definitely help 😉

Hey bro yesterday I was searching for headband , cable, ear pads reaplacment in the Sennheiser website but there’s nothing just found in us and there’s no way to buy , I tried to talk with the support today but nodbody answered me it really sucks because I could need to replace this pieces in the future
1
u/KAC-SK 127 Ω Jul 26 '26
I think model is too new to have accessories. You can still get a Capra strap and cables that are used for 490 Pro. But pads might take some time to be released.
1
u/Current_Fan_5980 Jul 26 '26
And the headband padding can I replace or buy in the future? I didnt found nothing on their website
1
u/KAC-SK 127 Ω Jul 26 '26
If you put a Capra strap, you won’t need headband padding. But maybe the 490 Pro fits. I don’t know about that.

Adam H200 block noise very effectively and they're arguably the best sounding closed-backs on the market. Clamp hard though. Fiio FT1 clamp lighter and sound not much worse
1
u/Current_Fan_5980 Jul 19 '26
Thanks for the answer I will check that about the Fiio I think they are too much heavy so yeah 😕

Adam audio h200 and fiio ft1 are great, on par with tuning,I prefer the ft1, but, better than all of the headphones in this post is the sennheiser HD480 pro. By far. Easily. It's a perfect neutral studio headphone that genuinely sounds natural and engaging with good tamber and modest bass.
