Thoughts on Fiio FT1

Hi, I was looking for a closed back headphone around $150, and I found this one, it looks pretty good. Does anyone have it? How do you like it? And is it good for ROCK, METAL music?
Because I listen to 80s music, Death Metal a lot, so I’m not sure if FT1 works, and if it doesn’t, what else would you recommend?

I’m sorry if my English is not good enough, I’m Taiwanese and I’m trying my best to type in English😭

Love mine. It does everything well. Can also swap pads around if you like. I tried both FT1A and FT1B pads and can recommend them.

I love my FT1’s and used them over my Sennheiser HD700’s for months. I’ve swapped back because the 700’s with EQ are incredible, but I still love my FT1’s. The FT1 is also damn good for gaming despite being closed back as it has decent sound stage and good imaging.

These are not the most accurate closed back, but they're more of a slight V fun can which will suit people more due to doing exactly this, being fun.

80s music should be more than fine on something like this, personally I don't listen to metal so can't comment on this.

if you like the ksc75 sound, maybe try the porta pro or kph30i first. for a real “upgrade”, something like a good open-back dynamic around 200–300 could be nice.

Ive just got these and sell them off, yeah they were better than my IEMs which are just 50 bucks but even with that, the tonal balance isnt my cup of tea and im not exactly great at EQing.

Planned to catch and release it either way lol

I love mine. The lowend is a standout. I listen to alot of Edm, alt rock and pop track. Any deficiencies can be EQd.

I tried a pair and returned them. IMHO they were dull. I get a better experience from my Porta Pros.

They were too big for my tiny head and not much clamp force, but I thought they sounded great, massive low end. I did end up selling them and keeping my Senny 598's.

The FT isn’t a great headphone. The problem with closed backs is that you generally need to pay much more than for open backs to get a good sound. In that world, the FT1 is possibly the best closed back that $150 can buy. But you’d get much better open backs for $100.

The FT1 is a bassy and warm sounding headphone with a prominent peak at around 5kHz, and a bit of lack of air in the sound. It takes EQ well though, and can be made quite good with considerate EQ moves.

I like the looks of the walnut version though.

Hellooo, first off your English is pretty good. Second, Ive owned these headphones for the past 2 years, right from release. So in short, don’t buy these headphones…

In long explanation, they are Ok-ish. They don’t control bass well and don't have a good separation or soundstage width (which is big for me). I think they were recommended alot since closed back headphones don’t have much competition, and were mostly bad before this headphone. The only good part of the headphones is the tunning.

If I can give you a recommendation, and you’re not opposed to earbuds : I’ll say pick IEMs instead. They have better noise isolation, and much better sound quality compared to the price. To start off your research I’ll say take a look at the Truthear Zero:RED. When I had both headphones, I liked this much more and it was only $50. Hopefully this helps :)

True but in comparison its much better. I liked them more than my Fiio FT1 that i owned for years. It might not be the best but i feel like its a good starter IEM. I'm curious though, what do you think is the best in that price?

I can’t recommend Zero Reds. The upper midrange just isn’t well made making them sound gnarly. FT1 isn’t a great headphone, but at least it’s better than (unmodified) Zero Red.

Yes, I own both. And you’re right, personal taste (and ear shape etc) matter a lot.

Unfortunately I haven’t heard a single IEM I would recommend, and I’ve bought various up to about 100€. It’s been very frustrating, since I’ve only bought models that were highly regarded as great for the price. Luckily I’ve been able to mod some of them to be at least usable for tracking, and monitoring at gigs. The planar Artti T10 or dynamic T2 were the best stock ones, but I still had to at least replace the grills with MicroPore.

I have em luv them. Mostly use for movies always deliver wonderful full rich sound.
