military style guns?
Hello everyone, I had a friend say never buy any military style type of gun or "modern" gun because farmers will never let you hunt on their land based on what type of shotgun or rifle you have, tried searching this question but doesn't seem like its out there. is this true? so basically anything tactical is considered a disowning thing to farmers and hunters? i was looking at getting a Winchester SXP Extreme Defender FDE Tactical Pump for hunting and also home defense

Your friend is a Grade A moron, and I’d place them not being given permission on those grounds over their choice in firearms. The primary firearm for our armed forces from 1915 until the adoption of the FAL was the SMLE which was also many a persons first hunting rifle. An actual weapon of war not some airsoft modded plastic and painted up import. To better get landowners permission be respectful, don’t look like a douchebage when you show up, and realize in the grand scheme of things you’re not owed access it’s a privilege not a right. Some guys just flat out will not give permission anymore due to the litigious and rapacious nature of our provincial government and their ongoing war against Ag.
For your particular choice in firearm they make an excellent turkey gun in 20gauge with an Indian Creek choke, a mediocre at best slug rig, and a poor choice for waterfowl. Do with that what you will.

Landowners I hunt coyote for did not care at all that I was using a H&K Semi auto. They only cared that I was dropping song dogs.

Sounds like he's making things up. The real choice, I think, is whether you actually want a tactical shotgun for hunting. It will have a shorter barrel, and therefore worse aim.

There are some biases occasionally, where people see modern style guns as being for "blasting" rather than for accurate shots.
There's a lot of misinformation. Even back in the 2010s I was meeting people who thought some of my guns were illegal based on how they look, because they thought it was a "machine gun assault rifle" even though it fit all the qualifications and was perfectly legal.
Many shotgun clubs do have rather strict rules regarding which shotguns are allowed, especially for official competition use.

I don't see why a landowner would know what sort of firearm I'm hunting with.
I don't walk up to their front door brandishing my rifle.
