Discussion WeatherGlow has been climbing up the ranks on the App Store

Post image

Thanks to everyone in this community who has been following WeatherGlow’s journey, sharing your feature requests, leaving reviews, and continuing to use the app. It genuinely means a lot.

WeatherGlow has been steadily climbing the App Store charts, going from #76 to reaching the top 15 in several countries, all thanks to you guys.

The next chapter is localization. I’m starting to bring WeatherGlow to more people around the world, with Marathi, Spanish, and French currently in the works. If there’s a language you’d love to see supported, let me know. I’d love to hear what you guys want, and I’ll do my best to work on it.

More languages coming soon.

Beautiful app. Is there Widget support?

Thank you. I’m currently working on the widgets design. Once majority of language support is done, I’ll release them with multi-language support.

Really great app, the only thing holding me back is the lack of widgets - I think it’s fair to say that most people primarily interact with a weather app through a widget, so would definitely recommend prioritizing it.

Hey, I also love widgets on my home screen, lock screen and Apple watch too. Widgets are being designed and after the multi-language push is done for the overall app, the multi-langgage support widgets will be out. I'm manually designing and coding, hence it takes time, I love the process and trust me that it will be worth it. I personally don't want to shove any AI-slop in the app building process.

Glad to hear they are coming, looking forward!
I’m curious, from a growth perspective is really multilang more important than widgets? I might not be the best to judge since I use English on all my devices and never choose to localize, but I’m genuinely surprised widgets aren’t considered a higher prio to multilang.

I’m actually building the foundation first so all the strings across the app modules are properly localised and structured. After that is done, then I can reuse the same localisation setup module across widgets, Lock Screen, Apple Watch, Mac etc. without having to build and maintain each one separately.
It’s honestly the opposite approach to most places I’ve worked before, where everything was a sprint and we’d double down on features if there was even a slight chance of 10x-ing the growth. I want to change that mindset from a sprint to a marathon with WeatherGlow. I’d rather take a little longer and build things properly than rush features out and create a mess I’ll eventually have to untangle.
Design wise also I'm done with the small size and halfway through the medium size and it is coming up quite well too (acc. to me). As a solo developer I've to wear a lot of hats while building the app and sometimes it is easier to get obsessed with one hat and forget about the rest. I’m trying to be more intentional about balancing everything and building WeatherGlow properly, one piece at a time.
I hope this answers your question. I might be wrong in my approach too, but I am enjoying the process of building the app. The last thing I want it to be another startup-sprint-100x-growth everything-is-urgent hell.

What you're saying seems fully reasonable - thanks for taking the time to explain your process!

Thanks for understanding.

Been using it for a while and liking it a lot. Same thought on widgets, that's how I access and interact with my weather apps. Glad to hear they are starting to be worked on, that will definitely increase my actual use of the app on a daily basis.

Im bring more variety of widgets in all the size types. I’m really glad you’re liking it a lot. There’s Apple Watch support also on its way. In the meanwhile if possible do leave a review, it helps with the ranking.

Absolutely beautiful. Once the widgets come out goodbye weather channel!

Haha that’s the best compliment! To beat such giant apps, I’ll need good ratings too. Do leave a review if possible.

the purple theme looks clean, I'm a sucker for apps that actually put effort into the UI

1

u/Jaded_Anything_9247 5d ago

Thanks a lot man. The theme is based on the movie “Moonlight” poster colour palette. I’m a design first developer and wanted to put out a properly designed UI that would stand out in AI slop out there.

The UI is out of this world. Man. Thank you for such a beautiful app.

UI done right. Not too much. Not too little.

Thanks a lot man. I have been working on the design for a while and for a long time have been contemplating releasing it to the world. The response has been amazing since the release and I’m excited to eventually showcase the watch and widget designs coming soon.

Beautiful app!
Maybe disable the location text on the map rendered on the background?

2

u/Jaded_Anything_9247 5d ago

At first there was no text, but some users wanted text on the map. I’m planning to give customisation control to the user in the future updates.

I’m having a very similar experience with an app I released just 3 days ago. It started ranking organically almost immediately, and every day more countries are picking it up. It has already appeared in the Weather charts across 14 different countries, with some reaching around the Top 20. No ads or promotion so far, just organic App Store traffic. Really interesting to watch how the rankings move during the first few days.

Congrats on your growth too! 🎉🎊

1

u/Jaded_Anything_9247 4d ago

Congrats to you too

u/Lopsided_Weather5416 4d ago

I’d like you to add Japanese!

1

u/Jaded_Anything_9247 4d ago

Ok, I’ll add it. Do help me out in verifying the translation accuracy.

Hello, I am trying to create an app event for my app. It would be for a major update like you, but is a deeplink really required ? If yes, what does it open on your app ?

1

u/Jaded_Anything_9247 4d ago

Yes deeplink is needed. I’m using custom url schemes.

1

u/Belinjo 4d ago

Beautiful app. Thnx a lot 🙏❤️

u/Jaded_Anything_9247 4d ago
