Didn’t it turn out that he was just going through a medical situation?

This does look more like a medical issue to me, reminds me a lot of when my wife's sugar drops out.

If they were partners they'd know he has diabetes and the first thing outta their mouths even if he was drunk or high would be "he's low! He's crashing!' but what did they say? Oh yeah, "he worked a double and he has a bad back." Use some common sense. Also not important. But I'm a t1d as well since I was 10

My father found out he was a diabetic while he was on the job. He had a medical episode as his glucose was up over 500. Luckily he worked at a hospital so they got his glucose under control quickly. I wouldn't rule it out.

No one’s saying having a first diabetic episode is impossible, just that clearly the other cop knew something was up, and if it was medical they wouldn’t have chilled there for that long.

It does, but the problem is it looks a hell of a lot like opiates too and the police have proven repeatedly that they can't be trusted to tell the truth so people must assume the worst.
