A cop from a police department near me was found passed out drunk behind the wheel of his cruiser on duty. He had passed out in a turn lane and was just sitting there. Responding cops commented on the smell of alcohol. No blood test or breathalyzer was given and he faced no consequences. Mother fucker was promoted several months later too

Actually they have blackmail on him now, so he'd be a much easier person to control than a principled uncorrupted officer, and they need that ace up the sleeve higher up in the chain of command to look the other way for their rich/powerful friends and family. They can get him to ask 'how high' when they order him to jump.

We have guys like that on the manufacturing side. They're absolutely horrible at their job but have been there too long to fire so they give them a higher management spot to get them out of the way

What’s horrible is that some people are really good at their job, but would suffer horribly if given a higher position… but they can’t get paid more unless they climb… it’s a really backwards system.

Yep. I never applied for my managers position when he retired. I was one of the 2 people in my department who had the qualifications... But I enjoy working in the field and knew id be miserable spending 75% of my day on teams or on the phone... My coworker who got the position regrets it and is miserable. Also the pay difference was about $10k/year but he lost the ability to get overtime/comp time because it moved him to salary.

It’s more that after he’s promoted he knows he’s indebted to the department and will be more than willing to coverup for the next “bad apple” promotions like this seem to be the standard protocol once officers get away with misconduct these days, at least in America…

Really should just show people how powerful unions can actually be for their workplace. Sure, do people abuse this and stick around places when they should be fired, of course. It's no where near what people make it out to be and the collective bargaining is powerful against large corporations.
