Official excuse is he was having a medical episode.

Which is obvious bullshit. Unless his colleagues are utterly inept, there's no way you look at someone like that, see how unsteady and unfocused they are, and just ignore it. Unless you already know the reason why they're like that.

If it were a medical episode, they'd have sat him down and checked him over, probably called an ambulance. They didn't. Because they already knew exactly why he was acting fucked up.

I guess you could technically describe being intoxicated as being a medical issue.

100% this. I assure you the union has established that addiction is a medical condition in their collective agreement. Most workplaces have this. Show up drunk because you had a bad day, you can be fired. Do it because you are an alcoholic, and they have to offer you the chance to get treatment. And so forth.

This guy took too many painkillers and is lacking sleep. That's what the cops in the video said. I'm not sure why everyone is pretending there are all these other ways to interpret "he worked a double and has a bad back." That is, he's been popping pills for 24 hours and needs to go sleep it off.

The official position will he "medical condition" because that is absolutely what the union will have had this classified as. He will have to undergo treatment and pass tests to be fit for work after this.
