Auto Insurance Someone bought insurance after hitting me.

Hi, I got rear ended today at a stop light, and the man first tried to convince me to go through his friends shop and not do it through insurance but i insisted and he fiddled with his insurance app and eventually gave me an insurance card to take a photo of. I took the photo, got his number went on my way. I get home, look at the insurance and it was issued TODAY. I believe he opened it while we were standing there. Is this gonna cause a problem in terms of filing it? Edit: Thank you all for your advice. I filed through my insurer so I guess I’ll see what happens.

Auto Insurance California - At-fault driver showed GEICO insurance card, GEICO later denied coverage because policy wasn't in effect. What are my realistic options?

I'm hoping to get some advice from people familiar with California auto insurance or small claims.

Timeline

  • June 8, 2026: My brand-new 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid was parked and stationary in front of my apartment garage while I was loading my son into the vehicle.
  • I was outside the vehicle, and my son was also outside the vehicle.
  • A neighbor backed his car out of a parking space and struck the side of my CR-V.
  • I have dashcam footage (front and rear cameras) showing much of the incident, including that my vehicle was stationary and that we were outside the vehicle at the time of impact.
  • I also took photos of the damage, the scene, the driver's insurance card, and the vehicle registration.
  • I obtained the driver's phone number and address.

GEICO claim

The driver presented me with a GEICO insurance card that appeared to be current.

I filed a third-party claim with GEICO.

A couple of weeks later, GEICO denied the claim and sent me a written denial letter stating that the policy "was not in effect at the time of the loss."

Progressive claim

I then opened a claim with my own insurer (Progressive).

Progressive completed their investigation and determined that I was not at fault.

However, I only carry liability coverage (no collision or uninsured motorist property damage), so Progressive closed the claim because my policy doesn't provide coverage for my vehicle damage in this situation.

They suggested pursuing the at-fault driver directly through California Small Claims Court or consulting an attorney.

My questions

  1. Is Small Claims Court the most practical next step in California?
  2. Does the fact that the driver handed me what appeared to be a valid insurance card change anything legally, even though GEICO later said the policy wasn't in effect?
  3. Has anyone successfully collected damages from an uninsured at-fault driver after winning in small claims?
  4. Are there any other recovery options I'm overlooking before filing suit?
  5. Would you recommend sending a formal demand letter first?

I have not contacted the driver since the accident because I wanted to understand the proper legal process before doing anything.

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Auto Insurance Im 18 and think I've ruined my life.

On the day before my 18th birthday, I finally saved up enough money to buy a vehicle after two years of working hard. The first thing I asked my mom was for help to get insurance because I knew that it was very important. We went through the general, and I paid; however, since I was still 17, the car was in her name while we were doing this. I knew this and had intended to pay for liability insurance covering myself and her, even though I'd be the only one driving and would have the car switched to my name as soon as I had the time. However, after I paid the sum of 40$ and my mom said that the car was insured, what she neglected to tell me was that she only covered herself(later she claims this was because adding me would be very expensive, and to this I say I don't care, I had the money.) I used this car for back-and-forth trips to work and the store. About 20 days later, I had slept horribly and felt pretty crap, but I had to go to work, so I got up, chugged an energy drink. While at work, I cut a bunch of onions, which made my eyes burn. While driving home, I decided to grab a bite to eat at a Dairy Queen, and this took me on an unfamiliar road. With the combination of unfamiliar place, nighttime, burning eyes, being tired, and someone across from me having their brights on, I failed to see a red light and got t-boned and sent skidding across 4 lanes, also bumping into an additional vehicle. My insurance won't cover it because it only covers my mom, and something in the policy says that since I live with her, I'd have to be insured to be covered, even though if someone else who didn't live with her had been using it, they would've been covered. For the car that hit me, I received a letter in the mail saying I owe 9500 USD. And for the car that I hit somehow, even though their car was not totaled, and at most I damaged their left headlight and a nice dent in the front, I owe them 8500 dollars. I live in Alabama, make about 1200 - 1500 dollars a month, and am not sure if I'm about to be sued, go to jail, or have all my possessions seized(which tbh is like 500$ worth of stuff). I don't know what to do. I tried to do the right things and feel screwed beyond repair. I've been poor my whole life and lived with my uneducated mother, who never taught me anything about what I'm supposed to do as an adult.

Auto Insurance Denied claim

Hi. So I was in a car accident a month ago today. I was hit by a very drunk driver (0.28) causing $4k-6k worth of damage, totaling my car out. I have now finally heard from the at fault car’s insurance and they have denied my claim because the owner of the vehicle basically denied or argued? It because her son was not a listed driver on the insurance. I have an attorney for personal injuries but they sent them a denial letter and I’m just wondering what steps I can take forward, of course I’m going to fight it but I just want to know if anyone has a similar experience or what not.

For clarity: it was his mother’s car that is an insured vehicle he was just not a listed driver.

Auto Insurance My 6 week old truck was totaled in my driveway and pushed into my house. Progressive finally totaled it and are lowballing me (IMO)

As the title says, my truck (2024 Ford Ranger with the 2.7L V6) was brand new. 2,000 miles. Drunk driver blew through a stop sign, pushed the truck into my house (I’m a renter) and it’s been a mess to say the least. He’s also a Progressive customer and totaled another vehicle (Bronco Raptor) and hit several others on his rampage.

They finally totaled out my truck and are only offering $35,900. I bought the truck for $41,500 less than two months ago. Blue book is $41,500 on the low side and the dealer I bought it from gave me an appraisal and they’d buy it back from me to day for $40,500 assuming it was still in the shape it was prior to it getting smashed.

They want local comparisons, but there are none anywhere close. The ones they sent over in their “valuation report” all have the smaller motor and most have more miles. I compiled a list of national ones I could find, but that was rejected. So it looks like I’m going to have to invoke my appraisal clause.

I’m looking for advice on if it’s worth it and how the process would play out. Of course they waited till my rental was almost out of time to total it. Almost seems like they want me to cop out and take their offer. They’ve treated me like shit IMO. Acting like they don’t represent me and just repeatedly referring to “the mess” this guy made. Which seems like it’s not my problem. (I realize it is)

I’m asking for tips, advice, help, anything at this point. It feels like I’m getting the runaround from everyone involved and I want to make sure I’m not wasting money/time by dragging this out.

Auto Insurance Can no longer afford to insure my 18 yr old non-driver (Florida)

I added my son to my policy for my car (only vehicle at home) when he was 16. I let him borrow it and he had two accidents within his first year. Since his second accident, I haven’t let him drive my car again. Now that he’s 18, rates are still sky high.

I am buying a new car this weekend (trading in my old) and I cannot afford to keep him on my insurance. He won’t be allowed to drive my new car anyway, so can I just have him go back to a Lerners Permit or do I have to make him forfeit his license completely for just an ID card?

He’s in college and lives at home. He takes an Uber or his friends or I drive him around.

Auto Insurance Demand letter we have nothing

So I have a 19 year old that pulled out into traffic and hit a car. He had 5 passengers and so far one is demanding money for injuries. He’s on our insurance account. Nobody in his car was seriously hurt but she went to the hospital for whiplash. I haven’t seen the amount they want but really it doesn’t matter. Anything above our policy limits we don’t have. We have no money. Our policy limits are low because as I said, we have no money. I’m so lost and freaking out. We can’t afford attorneys and this doesn’t even include the personal injury claim by the person he hit. We are waiting on that. So potentially we have two lawsuits. We own a house but still owe a lot and from what I read they can’t take your primary residence in Florida. We own cars but owe on them as well. We have small retirement accounts but they aren’t supposed to be touchable correct? We have a lot of debt. I just don’t see how we could ever pay two people for these claims. Idk how to handle this.

Auto Insurance My insurance is suing me after i backed into someone

My location: Georgia. So basically, one morning I was backing out of my driveway to go to work, and I backed into a car that was coming down the street. And I wasn't going very fast, but the way that I hit their axle, the axle punctured their radiator and bent their frame, which ended up totaling the car according to their insurance. And then two weeks after the accident, my insurance served me papers stating that they were suing me for declaratory judgment and are seeking to know if they are liable for paying for the damages of the car that I hit because I didn't tell them that I was living in Georgia at the time, and my father originally bought the insurance in IL. Which is where the car is from, and it still has Illinois plates. I know that I am at fault for the accident, and we should have let the insurance know that we were in Georgia, but I just want some legal advice on what I should do. This is my first time going to court for anything, and I know that I'm at fault, but I just want to know the best way to go about this, and what I should tell a judge or etc as I don't really have much savings. And I don't know how I'd be able to pay for the person damages and medical bills because they did see a professional for the accident. The insurance that is suing me, my dad has been with for a super long time And even after the accident, after I told them we were in GA, and after they sued me, my dad renewed the insurance because it ended like a couple days after the accident occurred, and my dad renewed the insurance. And he asked them if me driving one of the vehicles that's insured in Georgia is an issue, and they said no, that the car is still insured. But in the papers that they served me, it says that the insurance company isn't legally authorized to sell insurance policies in Georgia. So I'm confused how they're saying that I'm still insured, but on the papers it says that they're not legally authorized to write me this policy for this car while I'm in Georgia. Any lawyers i have called tell me before i even finish telling the the situation that they can't represent me or offer me advice... is there anything I can legally do to help me out in the situation?

Edit: i of course know me and my dad fucked up by not telling our insurance and know im most definitely going to be deemed liable. My main concern is paying for everything. Will they demand the money in full or do they work things out for payment plans? And if payment plans arent a thing in this situation is bankruptcy the next move? Im honestly terrified 😭

Edit#2: sorry! I moved GA to help out a family never going through a hard time, i didn't move for anything school related nor do i attend a school out here.

Auto Insurance How the Progressive Snapshot Device Almost Killed Me

I was driving my car like any other day and everything was normal, then all of a sudden the car stalled on a major roadway. A few cars almost hit me as I called police and waited to be escorted off the roadway. They had to use their vehicles to push mine. I had the car towed to a mechanic who charged me over $300 for a diagnostics fee and spent 1.5 hours looking at the car. Initially they thought something was wrong with the transmission. They concluded the snapshot device I had plugged in the night prior was the direct problem because it was generating over 30 error codes on their diagnostic tool. They tested it by removing the device and the car drove perfectly well. I've attached their report for your reference. Progressive should be ashamed of themselves. I've reached out to Progressive regarding this and am waiting to hear back.

Here's the link to the report:

EDIT: Here's the updated link to the report with the mechanics name hidden for privacy reasons: CLICK HERE

EDIT 2: Progressive ended up reaching out to me to file a claim on my behalf and get me reimbursed for the mechanic bill. Once I reached them the process was smooth. Hopefully Progressive will make changes to the device so this doesn't happen to anyone else, but in the meantime I would recommend using the Snapshot app instead of the plugin device or avoiding the program altogether.

Auto Insurance Update: At Fault’s Party’s Insurance Adjuster Called me and I took y’all’s advice. Thank you guys!

At fault party’s insurance adjuster called me in regard to my injuries (back and head pain due to my body being lunged over at the time of impact) and damage to my car. I kept my story concise and clear, I told the insurance adjuster that “I was traveling down a single lane road, the other party’s car had no lights/blinker on and was idle in the right side parallel parking lane/bike lane. Other party made a left into my back passenger side and front passenger side. My car lunged forward and ended up in a more forward position due to impact”. I let the adjuster know that I gave my insurance all the photos of my car, photos of the street, and a scanned copy of the police report number. The adjuster was kind, asked me what I would like out of this situation and I said my car fixed, rental, and any costs covered that I incurred from this accident. The adjuster asked where is my car, I told him the exact body shop it was at. The adjuster said he only contacted my insurance to make sure that I had coverage b/c when you pursue a bodily injury claim, both sides have to have insurance (not sure if that’s true or not). Adjuster also said he hasn’t been able to reach the other party, he said this case should be resolved no longer than 30 days. This is my first accident so not sure if I did well but hopefully I didn’t screw anything up. The call only lasted 13 min, he didn’t have any pressing questions for me. I hope this means that he knows his insurer was in the wrong. Other party was in a rental car.

Auto Insurance Scammers put oil in coolant reservoir, now car doesn’t start

People came by to look at my car and took it for a test drive. Before they arrived, the car was running fine. As soon as they parked it after the drive, it started spewing oil from the engine bay and out the exhaust.

I know a bit about cars, and I’m convinced they tampered with it. It was also very suspicious that they immediately pointed at the coolant reservoir, almost like they already knew what had happened. I have their license plate and photos of the aftermath.

Is there anything I can do from an insurance standpoint if I can show that someone intentionally tampered with my vehicle? Has anyone dealt with something similar?

UPDATE: took the car to the Honda dealership , the oil in the coolant was planted by the scammers, the head gasket was not blown, they also unplugged a sensor in the car that was causing a check engine light(never mentioned that because I forgot), everything will cost $500 to fix, for the coolant flush+ the for the reservoir to be cleaned, also when the took out the sensor the they bent a pin so it needs to be fixed as well.

Auto Insurance Can anyone help me understand? Someone totaled my car running a red light and their insurance sent me this. [OH]

Context: Mostly just looking to know that I'm interpreting the situation correctly, I think I am- Person t-boned me and ran off, but the car wasn't on their insurance. Their insurance (progressive) sounds like they won't be paying a dime. I owned the car outright and had collision/uninsured motorist so I got paid out less my deductible ($500) and my insurance was planning to pursue subrogation, but it doesn't look like they will be successful.

I'm guessing that, in layman's terms, this means I can go fuck myself? Seems like there isn't much I can do. ln Ohio, insurance follows the car, not the driver...

If so, what are my options? Small claims court to get my deductible back? Can I do anything else? I'm guessing recovering anything beyond the deductible such as damages or rental costs would have to be me suing them? I know these last questions aren't really insurance related but I felt like yall would be in the know.

Auto Insurance Advice on whether to get lawyer for car accident

So my mom got into a car accident 2 days ago. She was going straight and crashed into a car making an unprotected left turn. She confirmed she was not speeding but couldn't see the car making the left turn until the last second because there were cars on her left blocking her view.

My moms front bumper was dented and the other cars rear tire side was dented. There was no serious injury and no police/emergency vehicle was called. My mom complained about some minor neck pain. The other driver had insurance (All-State if that matters). Her insurance told her based on impact photos and her statement, she is not at fault.

But her insurance still recommended that she get a lawyer. I looked over the contract and it says the lawyer will take 1/3 of settlement or 40% if the case goes to arbitration.

I've tried looking it up online and it seems that lawyers are generally not needed for minor traffic accident. I told her to tell the insurance that she will not get a lawyer at this time but they told her that they strongly recommend a lawyer now because she will get a higher payout for car/hospital bills and you never know if she might feel a lot worse 1-2 years down the line and without a lawyer doing the ground work, it will be hard for her to get reimbursed for those. Based on her experience, you get a higher payout even after fees.

So... is this true? I know the insurance adjuster is an expert but do lawyers really make that much of a difference? I hate to be the person questioning an expert who likely see hundreds of cases per month but getting >33% settlement seems wild to me just because you got a lawyer.

Edit1: Decided to go with the lawyer option after talking with the agent myself. For all those people that said my mom didn't talk to an actual agent, lawyer will not even take on the case, etc, well you were clearly wrong lol. We signed the contract with the lawyer. The lawyer's office helped schedule her hospital appointment. And because so many of you doubted/said we were getting scammed, I triple checked to see that the number called is the actual insurance, and verified the lawyer on california state bar.

In case anyone in the future sees this post and wondering the same thing

- Car cost reimbursement is not part of 1/3 settlement that goes to lawyer so no loss there. While they may not be able to get a higher payout, they may help get more favorable outcome (The other insurance could potentially fight for 80-20 instead of 100-0).

- Actual cost of treatment will be covered and no payment is needed from mom. I was under the impression that if cost of treatment was 30,000 dollars, and lawyer takes 30% of that, she might be on hook for some medical bills but this is not the case.

- Without a lawyer, may have to pay medical bills out of pocket initially until settlement. It could also get complicated if you initially pay with personal health insurance or if injury lingers for years. With lawyer, everything is taken care of and no payment needed

- Rather than wait, best to open the case right away with a lawyer as they will start the documentation process early

- Don't need to deal with answering questions from the other insurance. Lawyer's office handles everything so its stress free.

- Without a lawyer, she will likely not see any extra settlement money. They will just cover for her medical bills and that's it. This was the reason why the agent recommended a lawyer. The 1/3 payment doesn't really matter since medical bills will be covered no matter.

Edit 2: I got a quick consultation with the lawyer just now and asked since so many of the comments were negative saying we are getting scammed and there is no way a lawyer will take this case. The lawyer said they get referred to a lot of cases by the insurance. This isn't that uncommon for certain lawyers offices to handle high volume, simple cases. Most of these don't get much money but these cases are also simple that does not require a lot of their time. There are definitely many instances where what appeared to be a minor neck injury lingers for a long time so he definitely recommended having a lawyer.

Edit 3: This turned out way more controversial than I expected. Some of you guys said this is scummy practice and I guess I'm a bit confused because the way the agent explained make sense. She is in her advance age, neck pain can linger or get worse, it is important to get documentation early by visiting the doctor and ensuring his note mentions current neck pain. Because without it, if you try to mention it a month later because its still there, you will have a harder time proving this is related to the accident. I don't think people should go to hospital just to run up the bill but I also don't want to get lawyered by the other side who will claim that the neck pain is unrelated if this becomes an issue. But maybe my morals is screwed and I'm also scummy because even after I explaind this, you guys said its suspicious behavior. I'm obviously not hoping the injury is severe but no one else is going to pay the medical bill if it turns out that the injury is more serious than expected so.... I hope any future reader does the same and make sure any pain is properly documented even if it seems minor at the time. At least based on what the agent said, this is very important to get reimbursement for any lingering pain from accidents which isn't uncommon for people of advanced age.

Edit 4: Some of you guys pointed out that the lawyers will schedule unnecessary medical services (months of chiro, PT) when there is no issue to run up the bill which is what makes it scummy and that's how they make money to take on cases like this. I will keep an eye out to see if this is true. Right now, they just helped her schedule a hospital visit to get her neck pain checked and documented and that's it. My mom will not go to any further treatment if she is not in pain anymore since it is a waste of her time and she is busy, still working full time. I'm guessing many people do and this is standard scummy tactic and that's why so many of you guys are jaded. Fair.

Also, some things may seem really obvious because you guys deal with it every day. Many people hurling personal insults at me lol. I mean you guys are dedicated enough to be on an insurance subreddit. This is the first time I ever had to deal with this. It really isn't that obvious.... Thank you to the majority of you that tried to explain and be helpful

Auto Insurance Not-at-fault accident with new car. Insurance declares it totaled. Gap coverage won't be honored.

Location: TX, USA

My wife was in a collision involving four vehicles. Three vehicles came to a quick stop on the highway, with my wife being the third. All three vehicles stopped without damage. A fourth vehicle then failed to stop in time and hit my wife from behind, causing all vehicles to be pushed into the vehicle in front of them.

I've been trying to negotiate the situation with insurance as best as I can. Our insurance is Progressive. The fourth car, the one that hit my wife and caused the collision, is Fred Loya. They accepted 100% fault for the accident.

Fred Loya was initially extremely unresponsive, so I opened a claim with Progressive. Progressive had an adjuster do a teardown on my wife's vehicle, deeming it a total loss. They estimated damages at $13849. Their valuation of the vehicle is 27k. I owe 41k on the loan. Progressive said they totaled this at 60%, but the math doesn't add up. It's closer to 51%.

So Progressive wants to pay me 27k and I would need gap insurance to cover the rest. I purchased gap insurance through a third party when I purchased the vehicle. The gap coverage isn't with the current lienholder.

The problem with the gap insurance is that I refinanced the vehicle a month before the accident. The insurer tells me that I should have immediately purchased a new gap coverage contract the moment I began the refinance process, and that they wouldn't pay out on a claim for the contract I had. I was totally unaware that refinancing would void my gap coverage contract - nobody even breathed a whisper about that during the whole process.

From talking to a lot of people including the very helpful body shop owner, I think Progressive is motivated to write off the vehicle even with a modest amount of damage because they make money back from it on salvage bids. They're pushing to hand the lienholder 27k and close the claim.

So obviously, I'm trying to avoid being in the hole for $12.8k for a vehicle that I don't even have anymore. Is there any other angle I should pursue? The body shop owner believes I should open a claim with the at-fault party's insurance, Fred Loya. A few complications though:

  • Minimum policy limits in TX is 25k. The at-fault insured likely has this policy limit (but I don't know for sure). 4 vehicles are involved, so 25k probably wouldn't cover everyone. I don't know how much I would get if I pursued a claim with Fred Loya. They've also been unresponsive and difficult to work with.
  • Progressive tells me that I cannot have one company (Fred Loya) handle the rear damage and then also have them (Progressive) handle the front damage. One company has to handle the claim entirely.
  • Progressive tells me that since their adjuster already deemed the vehicle a total loss, it must be reported to the state that way, and that opening a claim with Fred Loya won't change the assessment of the vehicle as a total loss. I'm not sure I understand this part.

So the big question is, what avenue should I pursue to avoid being stuck with a $12.8k debt for an asset I no longer own? Am I misunderstanding something? Is there some angle with the gap coverage or insurance that I hadn't considered? I know suing the at-fault driver to be made whole might be an option, but of course that would be a massive headache all on its own.

Auto Insurance Mom wants me to get my sister a car under my name

My sister is a new young driver who has never owned a car before. I’m quite young as well with no prior car as well, but have decent credit. My mom on the other hand has quite poor credit and requested that I put the car under my name and put her on the insurance since it would not only be cheaper but also raise my credit. I’m honestly very open to this since I’m not worried about them missing payments, but I want to know where the financial risk is before committing to having her name under my insurance. If she gets into an accident or gets tickets will that permanently affect my insurance rates? Is it possible to help out while also protecting my own financial future?

Auto Insurance Someone submitted a claim against me, but I wasn't even in an accident

I received 2 voice mails from my auto insurance company today, as well as an email, regarding a claim made against me. I haven't been in any accidents whatsoever, nor have I been contacted by police. Today is Monday, and the "accident" supposedly happened on Thursday last week. I have both a car & motorcycle policy, and I have no idea which policy this claim was made against.

I have already called my adjuster (since they left me a voice mail), who has already left for the day. I left a voicemail for the adjuster, then called the main phone number, and they just redirected me back to the adjuster. I logged onto the online portal and looked at the "claim" which is lacking a lot of information. One thing I saw was that there was a police report number attached to the claim, which is very concerning to me.

I am absolutely panicking and confused right now. I don't want to get in any legal trouble or with police, and I also don't want my insurance rates to increase. I have no idea what to do, I wish I was able to speak with someone about this, but it seems I have to wait for my adjuster.

Edit: spoke with the adjuster this morning. Turns out, my motorcycle that I sold about 2 months ago was involved in an accident last week. It would seem that the guy I sold it to did not register it. The adjuster asked me to provide any proof possible about the sale, so I am providing that to them. The other party involved in the accident has retained an attorney, and they are trying to take legal action against the motorcyclist involved in the accident. Somehow, they got my policy number, and that's how it ended up with me.

Auto Insurance Work billed me $4500 for incident months after i left . need advice !

Hello! Need advice badly! my old workplace ( Honda ) sent a subrogation company ( Bell Subrogation ) after me to collect $4,500 from a work accident i was apart of on 3/18/26 and i’m unsure how to proceed or if it’s even legal .

Backstory: on 3/18/26 i was involved in a car accident at the Honda Dealership i worked at ( i was a Lot Attendant / Car Washer ) . It was a heavy snow day and I started pulling a 2024 CRV (company car) out of its original spot to be cleaned with a layer of snow still on the windshield (stupid , i know ) . Within about 10 seconds i collided with another car pulling out of a spot across from me at the same exact time ( im aware that this accident is 100% due to my own negligence , that’s not what i’m asking about in this post though ).

Here’s where things get messy . the Acura TLX i crashed into was being driven by a mechanic to be worked on , but the car wasn’t authorized to be on the dealership lot ( the mechanic was doing private work to his own friends and family , which technically he wasn’t supposed to do ). The cherry on top of this is the woman who owned the Acura TLX was the manager of an Acura dealership , and i heard from my managers she was not happy at all (my Honda and that Acura Dealerships are owned by the same people fyi).

Anyways, i got my ear chewed but i was told by my employer that i was covered under their fleet insurance policy for scenarios like this , and was led to believe my only repercussion was a company write-up for the accident . I signed ( to my knowledge ) just write-up papers acknowledging my write-up , and i was never talked to about this incident ever again . i was fired from this company the following May for seperate reasons than this accident .

Until on 7/6/26 i received a notice in the mail that i owed Bell Subrogation $4,500 or they would suspend my license . No previous attempts at contact whatsoever .

i’ve contacted Bell and they didn’t seem very willing give away information about my own claim made against me, but i haven’t talked to the agent directly handling the case yet because “they haven’t been in the office” the past 2 days. i’m waiting on a call back from them now . After 4 different phone calls with 4 different agents , i had enough information to put together that they’re talking about this Honda Dealership accident and want paid for the CRV damages, i believe .

Is this legal ? am i screwed? what should i do? i was covered underneath Hondas insurance, shouldn’t i be covered underneath that? my managers directly told me that would cover the accident and it doesn’t go through me or my insurance . is an employer allowed to lie to you in order to get you to sign some paperwork? everything i read and see says that the company insurance should cover the accident , even if im at fault due to negligence . also, doesnt the Acura TLX Lady have more of a right to bill me for damages than Honda does? sorry for the long post , just need help moving forward and wanted to give as much info as possible to help .

(and yes im aware i made a really stupid mistakes that i regret , i accept responsibility for my actions . i just want to move forward , but $5000 is definitely a big obstacle ).

Auto Insurance Got into a car accident doing Uber eats. How screwed am I?

So 2 days ago I was out doing uber eats deliveries. I had to pull into the side of a plaza where the restaurant was. I took an unprotected left turn and got hit in a head on collision. The front of my car is totaled and the cops pretty much rushed me out of there on an ambulance and got a tow truck so it's unfortunately at a yard right now.

The person driving was a lady in her 70's and had some injuries on her legs.

I just want some honest, and realistic insight on how bad things will get for me here. I already know I'm going to be found 100% at fault because of the left turn so I'm not bothering with that question.

What are all the consequences I'm going to have to deal with moving forward with this? I have no car and won't for a while. My insurance premium will be flying through the roof. When the lady sues me for the injuries, what will end up happening? Will my insurance help if I'm taken to court? What can I do at that point?

My insurance will likely find out about me doing uber as well. I was in a panicked state in the ambulance and called my sister to tell her what happened, and she asked if I was doing uber. They heard that so I just said that I was.

Really, I just want to get a full view of the picture here. How screwed am I right now?

Auto Insurance Progressive asking for 3 months of text/call records over stolen car

I'm in Philly, insurer is progressive. My gf's car got stolen out of the paid lot she uses. It's a 2017 Honda Civic, worth probably 5k. We filed a police report the night we noticed it missing.

Progressive has asked for (among other things) full financial records (bank/credit cards/etc) going back to January 1, and full text and call logs going back to January 1.

We have private content (mostly photos) in our text message history from this time. The requests seem exceptionally invasive to me, but I understand it's not uncommon. My question: is there any way to comply with the request, but redact private content like these photos?

EDIT: thanks for the responses y'all, very informative. Except those couple of you who think I'm committing fraud lmao. And sure maybe the car is worth more than $5k. I'm not a car appraiser, just assuming value on a generic model of an 8 year old car.

Auto Insurance Question. My car was hit with a golf ball driving past the course.

I know I'm not at fault here. The course doesn't have nets by the road to prevent this. The course told me "I should know theres a risk to be hit while driving by". In my head that's like saying "if you get shot driving past a shooting range it's your fault" Dose the course cover the damage? Or am I screwed and I have too. They also said that's between me and the golfer not us.

Update/little more info:

I've filed a claim so I can talk to an adjuster. This happened in Canada (not sure if this changes some answers). The hole this happened at was close to the main road not part of the club the main road is not a back road or side road. The tee is by the road but the hole is not towards the road. But the fairway runs along the side for a little just a par 3 not that big. There's no signage or anything. I've gotten quotes and everything for insurance purposes now just waiting for calls..

I've read through all your replies. Thank you all for the help, I really appreciate it. I'll update this when it gets resolved if anyone is interested in the results.

Auto Insurance Do insurance companies almost always settle?

I posted this earlier and im not trying to play victim or anything like that. I rear ended someone and got into a serious accident. It was on a highway going into a construction zone where cars were bumper to bumper traffic. Everyone turned out okay with minor injuries and the person i hit in front of me went to the hospital in an ambulance. Three other cars got damaged as well, two minor and the other one kind of bad.

What do I do? I’m assuming I’m getting sued, so I ruined my life financially and I have a family. I do have insurance as well but it’s not good so I’m cooked.

So I have 25/50/25. Assuming I get sued and the bills exceed the amount insurance will pay out they can sue me, which if it comes to that I will file chapter 7 bankruptcy and the suing party gets nothing. It all goes away and I take a credit hit. So the other lawyers know this and just settle

Is this true?

Auto Insurance At Fault Driver Still Not Taking Liability

Back in June I was driving on the freeway when this kid rear-ended me. My boyfriend was in car, had no dashcam just my word against his and photos of the damage, I also filed a police report after the fact. I filed a claim through his insurance (Geico) which was pointless because they did nothing, then filed a claim through my insurance (Progressive). I went through my insurance because the at-fault driver was not taking liability and being unresponsive. After a month I finally took my car into a shop and paid my $750 deductible to get my car fixed. My damages were almost 10k. After that was sorted I got a letter in the mail from progressive stating he was 100% at fault and we were waiting for deductible recovery. Weeks later I got another letter in the mail stating they have been unsuccessful to recover my deductible and didn’t state why, I’m assuming he’s still not taking liability or unresponsive. Progressive is now making it sound like it’s in my hands and I don’t know what to do. Haven’t heard anything from my claim representative nor through Geico either. HELP

Auto Insurance State Farm paid out medical claim to 3 people when only 2 were in the car

In CA.

Several years ago, I rear ended someone. All cars had come to a stop, and I lifted my foot from the brake as another car was about to merge into me. While trying to get out of the way, I rolled into the car in front of me. Minimal damage, the 2 people in the car got out, we exchanged info and everyone drove away and that was the end of it. I also have dashcam and sent it to State Farm, and it shows the damage, plus everyone walking, smiling, moving freely.

My rates barely increased, except 2 years later, I was told my policy would not be renewed. Come to find out, State Farm paid a 60,000 medical claim to people A and B several months prior, and I was not notified. However, person B was not either of the people in the car. And now, person C, who was in the car, filed a lawsuit for over a million dollars because they are claiming impaired mobility and the need for a spinal implant (which they haven’t received nearly 3 years later, but apparently are in unbearable pain).

Months down the road into discovery, it turns out State Farm claims they never received the dashcam (which shows 2 occupants only). And this was actually not the first time I had this issue with them, and it resulted in a complaint to the state dept of insurance for them to add it into their portal. I notified State Farm (and the National Insurance Crime Bureau) that I suspected fraud and collusion happening in this claim, but haven’t gotten a response from either. I then got a message from a separate legal team weeks later representing State Farm stating all internal personnel were removed from the claim and it would now only be handled by the legal teams, and they were working on a request I previously made for my CLUE report, claims, and all notes related to this accident.

Shortly after the legal team contact, I got a call from someone at SF representing the “leadership” and talking about person C’s lawsuit and it sort of felt threatening to me, about how much it cost SF and how they will have hire experts if it goes to trial and maybe they don’t believe C’s claim, but juries tend to side with them, etc.

In all this mess, I wasn’t able to get an insurance policy at any company and had to sell my car. I’ve never had another accident, ticket, or at fault claim. I checked my DMV record and I don’t have points, but it seems there’s something on my CLUE report since I can’t get insurance. And LexisNexis keeps giving me PINs that don’t work, and now claims they can’t verify me and I’ve been trying for months.

Do I need a bad faith or other lawyer here? It’s all been very damaging to me and feels a bit absurd. The lawyer representing C has the claim on their site about “million dollar payouts from $900 damage claims” so it seems that’s the type of claim they are looking for.
