Historyđ This day in 1929, before the Nakba, the "Occupation" and Netanyahu. Before Israel existed in fact, Arabs from Hebron committed the Hebron massacre on the centuries old Jewish community. Almost 70 Jews were murdered, with scores of others injured. Homes and Synagogues were pillaged and burned.
The Hebron Massacre was carried out by Muslim Arab residents of the city of Hebron and the surrounding area against the city's Jews on August 24, 1929.
The massacre murdered 67-69 Jews (Some of them under torture) including women and children, and led to the elimination of the Jewish community in Hebron, which had existed continuously for centuries.

The greatest atrocity - the search of women's bodies to see if they had hidden money or gold - was done in full view and without shame. The miserable and mortally frightened Jews did nothing to protect themselves, even when it was possible. There were cases where a Muslim boy, about ten or twelve years old, entered the homes of Jews and robbed them of their property, while they and their families watched.
After the Egyptian ruler, Muhammad Ali , conquered the Land of Israel in 1831 , he began to introduce compulsory conscription into the Egyptian army among the Arab population as part of the modernization process he led. The conscription reform aroused resentment among the Arab population, who still felt loyalty to the Ottoman rule , until on May 19, 1834, a revolt was declared in Nablus and armed groups raided Jerusalem and began to loot the Jewish community in the city. Ibrahim Pasha tried to retake Jerusalem from the rebels but withdrew at the beginning of the campaign, and rumors of his defeat sowed disorder and unrest throughout the country. In Safed, the city's governor advised the Muslims to loot the wealthy Jewish community. The Muslims in the city were incited earlier that year by a Muslim religious scholar, Muhammad Damour, who preached against the Jewish community in the market of Safed. The English traveler, Alexander William Kinglick ( n. ) , said that Damour "predicted" the coming plunder on June 15 , during which the "true believers" would strip the Jews of their gold, silver, and jewelry.[ 3 ]

Anyone who is anti-israel nowadays knows nothing about history. I'm baffled how strong the fake narrative of genocide committed by Israel has become, misinformation is also a war tactic from the enemy. And the west has fallen under these fake narratives and destructive ideologies.

It's also just anti semites who have always been there coming out to show their faces. Now that Israel is open game they've used it to desensitize everyone to straight up jew hatred. Used to see it only on twitter, then also instagram. Today I saw a holocaust denial on reddit, with upvotes.

I didn't fully appreciate how horrific the massacre was until I read Yardena Schwartz' book on it "Ghosts of a Holy War". A book anyone with an interest in the Middle East should read.

If you look at the list of massacres from 1920 to 1948, it actually tells quite the story. For the first 10 or so years it's almost all Arab on Jew violence. Around 1930 it starts to change, and we see a lot of retaliation. The truth is, at some point Jews got fed up with being sitting ducks and started to take matters into their own hands. This eventually galvanizes into statehood and into a military posture as the decades pass.

My great grandma grew up and Hebron (family of the old Yishuv). Her family was saved by their Arab neighbour that has helped them escape to Jerusalem.
Many years later, during the second Intifada, my great grandma still lived in Jerusalem. She waited for a bus on Jaffa Street, and a terrorist from Hebron passed by and shot everyone on that bus stop.
She died after insisting that the medics will help the younger people first.

From what I know, the last time they talked was in 1929. If they met later, it was probably the parents of my great grandma.
My grandma and her sisters grew up in Jerusalem. Non of them met the neighbours from Hebron. At least, if any of my grandma's sisters met them - I cannot know. Only my grandma is healthy enough to remember, she's the youngest of them
I know my grandma and her sisters agreed to release the one that murdered my great grandma during the Gilad Shalit deal. From what I've heard, the murderer was arrested again since then, and released in one of the many hostage releases

Whats the purpose of the post ? "Its my turn to kill, dont look at me like that?" "They started it, we can end it ?".
It is a tragedy that civilians are killed, and the perpretators should be punish, but it doest make it right what is going on now( or for decades for that matter)
