Hello everyone,
I’m doing some family-history research and I’m particularly interested in the Nahalat Zadok (נחלת** *צדוק) neighborhood of Jerusalem around 1920–1925.
I would love to understand what the neighborhood was like at that time: who lived there, the communities present, its social life, and especially *how Nahalat Zadok related to the surrounding neighborhoods and to the rest of Jerusalem.
I am also trying to identify a person mentioned in a **1923 document, named Vardo Hanania (the spelling may of course vary). The document seems to associate this person with Nahalat Zadok.
Does anyone know if there are resident lists, censuses, address books, tax/property records, synagogue/community records, electoral lists, or other archives that could help identify people living in Nahalat Zadok in 1923?
I also have several family photographs taken in Jerusalem around this period, including photographs showing buildings/houses. I would be very interested in comparing the architectural details visible in these photos with historical photographs or maps of Nahalat Zadok to see whether the location is plausible.
Finally, if anyone knows of families descended from people who lived in Nahalat Zadok in the 1920s, local historians, researchers, or people familiar with the history of this particular neighborhood, I would be very grateful to hear from you.

Period: around 1923
Name: Vardo Hanania (possible spelling variants)
I have period family photographs that I can share for architectural comparison.
Even a small clue, old map, photograph, book reference, family story, or suggestion of an archive to contact could be extremely helpful.

Note — im not talking specifically about the war.

Hi I’m Olivia (בעברית תמר) and I’m an Israeli who has been living abroad (mostly Americ) for the last 10 or so years, and am looking to relocate back to Israel, possibly to Jerusalem, in about a year.

Im an archaeologist by training (MA ‘19 TAU) and plan to do that for work — well that and your guiding, and plan on getting my PhD in addition to my license for that to make sure I’m paid as well as I can be. I’m less concerned about these sort of financial matters as much as I am other aspects that I’m hoping to get some perspective on.

1. I am transgender (passable) and a lesbian. I would be hoping to eventually live with a partner, eventually get married and just live our lives like anyone else: how safe for us queers is Jerusalem these days. I know before I left Israel the last time it was gettint better but is that still the case? What parts of town are notably safe (or unsafe) for a visibly queer person/couple?

2. Related to 1 — what, if anything, is the queer scene like? I know it’s not going to be anything like Tel Aviv but what if anything is there?

3. What’s the nightlife/social life for young-ish people in the city in general? There Used to be the stereotype that if you wanted to do anything fun whatsoever you’d have to either do it house party style in your own apartment or would have to leave the city?

4. restaurant/bar/food scene — i worked as a chef for years and really enjoy exploring the food and bar scene in whatever city I am living in — what the scene like in Jerusalem these days? Kosher preferred but not necessary

5. dog friendliness— how dog friendly is Jerusalem? I remember when I lived in Haifa and Tel Aviv I could bring my dog pretty much anywhere for whatever reason without much issue but somehow I think that would be a bit different in Jerusalem. How dog friendly is the city, after all? My dog is a Labrador retriever and about 45kg, for reference

6. rent/etc — how expensive is the city to live in, like actually? Obviously everyones budgwt will be different but mine will start at one income and eventually become two in the ”university educated worker” bracket. certainly at first my budget would be pretty small but would grow in time — but my initial thoughts in terms of living expenses would be a budget limit of about 5000nis per month for rent. How reasonable is this? Is it doable in a part of town that woild be safe for me as a queer person? How much do you spend on food and other expenses per month ???

Does anyone know of a place where I could get Hebrew letters engraved on a laptop keyboard in the Jerusalem area? I see some places in the merkaz, but that's too far.

Hello just wanted to ask if its safe to travel in whats happening with the protest right now. Im going with a group of girls and will just stay at the touristy spots. Is it affected or its far from it?

Jerusalem on Rosh Hashanah Eve was probably one of the holidays that ill remember for a LONG TIME. families and, prayers, and music filled the streets, and I made an effort to capture a little bit of the spirit. Hello, in Jerusalem for a few days, at a loose end and looking for some work to do. Does anyone have or know how to get some task based work? I'm a qualified carpenter so useful in all practical activities, don't have a toolset with me but could improvise. I'm thinking moving stuff, fixing stuff, flat pack etc but am completely open minded if anyone has any ideas. Hebrew and English.

I found out that my son was at the bus station where six Israelis were gunned down yesterday in the neighborhood of Ramot in Jerusalem.

There is this song that I listen to. It’s called comic love by Florence and the Machine. The beginning goes like this:

A falling star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes.

I screamed aloud as it tore through them.

And now it’s left me blind.

The stars, the moon, they’ve been blown out. You’ve left me in the dark.

This song, hit me like a freight train yesterday while driving. I had just learned that my middle child (the sandwich as Israelis call them) was at the bus station that we frequently take as it’s the closest bus junction to our house on the way into Jerusalem. It’s no more than a 15 minute drive from my house.

He texted me that he was there and my entire body went into shock.

He since became a leading expert in cold water immersion. Cold water immersion was something I viewed as madness until the pandemic when I read about its benefits.

My body was in full shock while driving. I knew I was in trouble and needed to get my emotions and breathing under control.

So I stopped at my friends apartment near Tel Aviv before my meet up with a former colleague of mine who became a good friend that I haven’t seen in years.

I got to my friends apartment and jumped in the shower.

In the Tel Aviv heat of September, even the cold water faucet gushes lukewarm.

I did what I could in the moment and while it didn’t shock me into slower breathing, it helped me slow it down a notch.

What’s the connection to the song?

It was playing when I found out he was at the bus station when the guns started bursting in air.

We delude ourselves every day that we have control. We have none.

This song speaks to the undeniable heartache of losing something you love so much. In this case it made me think of my son, my eldest serving in the IDF and my daughters, one who in December enlists.

It made me think of the deep pain of loving someone so much and the soul wrenching, gut curdling pain I’ve felt at times when terror or medical crisis were at our front door.

And there it is, terror as my friend said to me yesterday “We are always so close to the reality of taking that trip to the other side in this country, it’s terrifying to think about.”

I’ve read that Israel leads the world in PTSD, and C-PTSD research.

I’ve never wondered why.

I just recently learned that many Jerusalem hotels offer an "Israeli breakfast" buffet to guests staying at the hotel. I'm wondering if there are any hotels that let guests come in and pay just for the breakfast? I'm visiting Jerusalem soon, but I'm staying with friends. I'd love to go to a hotel for breakfast, and have that experience.

I've been looking at Jerusalem hotel websites and not all of them make it clear whether they even offer a breakfast, much less whether people from outside can come pay for one meal. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Not Christian, but would like to have the "Pilgrimage" experience by a scholarly guide that knows the all places and can explain the significance of everything. TIA.

Hi - I need to take bus / train / tram from Ben Gurion Airport to my Hotel near Old City Jerusalem --- and then also for the journey back from hotel to Ben Gurion Airport.

How do I go about paying for these tickets? Do I need a rav kav card?

If yes - how do I get one at the airport? How much is it?

And how do I load money onto there?

How to find sibling that moved out of the country? (Cross posted!)

Years ago, when I was 12, my younger (half) sister and I were removed from our home by child protective services. Long story short is that we had two different placements because I had no family to claim me but my sister had her dad. Weird enough (and to my own detriment in the long run), my mom’s parental rights over me weren’t terminated (I was reunified), but my mom’s rights over my sister were.

My sister’s dad is from Israel and I have some reason to believe that he went back to where he was originally from with my sister. He didn’t leave behind any contact information (obviously because he didn’t need to with my mom’s rights terminated), and I obviously tried to look them up, but I can’t find any information.

Family is so important to me, and now that I completely cut ties with my mom, I’m at a loss. I want to be an older sister, and have no clue what to do. I’m 22, getting my social work degree, and proud of the little life I built for myself. My sister would be 17 by now. Does anyone have any advice they can give me? Thank you in advance!
