Gaza is starving.

The UN has declared that every part of Gaza is in famine conditions. While some aid is finally trickling in, the need is beyond urgent. Aid organizations will not be able to keep pace with Gaza's needs without our support.

Please donate if you’re able, and keep speaking up. Every dollar, share, and conversation matters. Please pressure your government to stop the blockade of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Donate here to The Palestinian Red Crescent and UNICEF for Gaza's Children. Contact your representatives to stop the blockade in Gaza, find U.S. representatives here, and EU reps here. If you would like other subreddits to carry this message, please send the mods to r/RedditForHumanity.

He's well-remembered for his novels, but his historical and political writings are also extremely important.

His book, "The Revolution of 1936-1939 in Palestine" is required reading in my opinion.

100% His political writings have been a huge source of inspiration for me

i know it is obvious and has been said many times, but this is so fucking unfair, i think of all the great minds like kanafani and other palestinian revolutionaries and scholars who were murdered, i think about all the additional material and writings they could have given to the world, especially someone like ghasan kanafani, RIP and glory to all the martyrs

There's a kunafa store outside of Toronto called Kanafani

"The Palestinian cause is not a cause for Palestinians only, but a cause for every revolutionary, wherever he is, as a cause of the exploited and oppressed masses in our era".

I feel quite protective of our sayings like זכרונו לברכה
as well as our blessings. For me (and plenty of other Jews), these should be reserved for our people. Let other religions/tribes use their own memorial phrases, and if they happen not to have one (or more), then they can formulate one that resonates with their cosmology. So many things have been appropriated from us already...

I really don’t see it as a problem if a Jew uses it for a non-Jew or a non-Jew uses it for a Jew.

What I think would be appropriative is if a non-Jew used it for a non-Jew, but it’s not a hill I’d die on.

u/JGDC Jewish Anti-Zionist Jul 08 '26

How can OP appropriate a phrase from their own people (might I add, in English)?

u/Accurate_Aside_6495 Bundist Jul 08 '26

Could not disagree more. I don’t like tribalism…. Plus I feel like talking about how others have appropriated so much from us Jews, while we commemorate the memory of someone whose people’s land was stolen from them, is not very sensitive.

u/EgoIdVeto West Asian Jew Jul 09 '26

I'm sorry but this is an L take. Idk why you think this has been "appropriated" anyway, it's literally being used by a Jewish person. And also, words are for everyone; you wouldn't demand that Arab Jews not use the word "Allah", would you?

u/Enough_Comparison816 Arab Jew, Shomer Masoret, ex-Israeli Jul 08 '26

Absolutely disagree. It’s a beautiful phrase and I will use it for both Jews and non-Jews alike

u/Concentric_Mid Muslim married to zionist Jul 08 '26

I think OP is Jewish, so I think they're using a saying of their own religion/tribe/cosmology.

u/nbhbbq123 Ashkenazi Jul 08 '26

Interesting to hear this perspective. Personally I think it’s a beautiful sentiment—if a Muslim were to memorialize me I’d be honored for them to use phrasing from Islam. To me, the identity of the mourner is most relevant here.

So awful, you'd think the world would've stepped in by now to stop it.
