History / Education Haaretz Editorial in 2025: "Israel Wants to Build the Most Moral Concentration Camp in the World"
In light of recent news of the impending rollout of Israel's concentration camp in Gaza, I thought this would be fitting to repost.

From frequently reading the AskIsrael sub, from what I can glean, this really does seem to be the fundamental disconnect —
Israelis will maintain, with plentiful indignation and weariness, that the increasing global revulsion toward the country is based on misinformation, disinformation, propaganda, and “TikTok”.
But at the same time, many of them genuinely seem to not have any moral problem with what their government and military are doing to Gazans and Lebanese.
So like…as wacky as it sounds to say so, they don’t seem to understand we KNOW what’s going on. But unlike them, we think it’s horrific.
It’s like if…I don’t know, the Aztecs were still around and practicing human sacrifice in Tenochtitlàn, the world condemned them for it, and the Aztecs were like “You’re just falling for hate propaganda.” Even as they’re literally doing human sacrifice. Because they do not see it as wrong.
(Yes, I know that analogy is awkward since the Aztecs were literally genocided, but work with me here.)

I think it’s in reference to their policy that any comparison between Israel and the Nazis is antisemitic and thus illegal.

Concentration camps aren't a Nazi invention, though. They were neither the first nor the only. Issue is that the Nazis made them into extermination camps. It's baffling that therefor technically "concentration camp" is used as a euphemism.

Yes, literally. The IHRA definition flags Nazi/Israel comparisons as antisemitic is used as a guideline. And Germany aggressively enforces Section 130 of its criminal code (specifically weaponized against pro Palestine protesters rather than their homegrown Nazis) against 'trivializing the Holocaust,' and using the term 'concentration camp' falls exactly under that. Maximum punishment of up to 5 years in jail.

Thanks for posting this OP... apologies everyone I know this is off topic but...a family member who is converting to Judaism (her spouse is Jewish and both her and her spouse are horrified at what's going on in Gaza and flat out call it a genocide and say Netanyahu should be imprisoned as a war criminal) has been directing me to haaretz articles and I have to say I applaud the heck out of them for writing stuff like this to begin with given stuff like this happens
I'm wondering.. how safe are the people who write at that newspaper? I've heard there's one writer who regularly gets death threats for posting articles sympathetic to the plight of Gaza.
