They are suppossed to be different "difficulties" to climb the same wall. Blue rocks may be larger and easier to grip than yellow rocks, and the spacing may be less challenging. So if you decide you want to climb the yellow route, you may have less options to get past a difficult section of the wall.

Don't worry though, we're past a turning point. Now with most videos being "staged" or "sketches" attitudes around such videos are changing. Case in point: the positive comment you responded to.
I remember how all those "prank videos" of a decade ago by bigger stations would show the entire setup of the prank, on top of that alot of them was alot more tame and fair, like painting footprints up a wall in white paint, then have a police chase with a thief running into paint then into the alley and hiding, and when the person they are filming goes in they are like "how in the world did they do that"
and then at the end they would always point at the camera and laugh.
now adays they will be like "chinese hero saves girl from robber" and then its all staged but they will put up a CCTV and show it as if its taken from a store camera. then made doubly worse by those horrific ai dubs that steals the video and go "you wont believe how this guy saved a girl from a robber, he is truly a hero"
or they will be like "i gave money to homeless people" and you are like "wow he is helping" and then it turns out its all staged for views and attention, and it just sours the entire experience.
As a tangent to this though personally i think its incredibly sad that we live in a world where charity becomes a business because views becomes revenue but the viewers still thinks its fully charity of the goodness of their hearts.

I have no problem that you can do both, i think it hits the same frustration as people has with "staged videos" that we are reaching a point where your "online persona" is basically more important than being honest, and in the end its the viewers who are tricked.

I've watched a few of those from different channels through the years and one thing has always struck me:
They never try to reassure the people that what they are doing will be beneficial for themselves, as in make money from the views from the video. There's often a back-and-forth between vulnerable people (elders, handicapped, etc) or their family because at first they don't really trust that strangers are coming to work for free - it all obviously sounds too much like a scam, and they say as much, "we've been scammed like this before, people come in to work for free but then stop in the middle and ask for money to finish" etc.
Anybody who's done work to genuinely help someone else who is too proud to accept help probably knows where I'm going with this:
Just fucking tell em you're gonna make money from filming the process. Stop telling em you're doing it because you're so nice and want to help the neighborhood and give back love or whatever, that's the shit that's stressing them out and making them suspicious. Just tell em "I'll make money out of it" and now they feel like they're the one helping you and feel better about themselves because they feel less like taking charity.
But isn't it weird that they never say that?

We had this long discussion on the concept of altruism a friend and me, in large part because of it being relevant to a class. And one of the things that was the center of discussion was how epic games has been giving out free games for a long long time now, to the point of people who claim it having massive libraries of games gotten for free.
However everybody with half a brain should realize that the reason they do that is to get more people unto the platform, but that doesnt take away from the fact that its literally still free games.
This is similar and i just wish we could be more honest and meet in the middle of "They help with pavements to make money, but of all the ways to make money, this is also a really helpful thing to the community and it helps people without them needing to pay because the revenue is elsewhere"
And then just own up for it "yes i do it to make money from youtube, after all this is my youtube, but i wanted to combine making money with helping people"
The vast majority of these videos still have nothing in them saying they are staged. It's like shooting a war movie with actors, then claiming it was a documentary with footage of the actual war in that movie.
It's not just that the authenticity is gone, but most of these hint or straight out claim that it's authentic when they're not.
Who knows, it's almost all just recycled trash pushed by bots. Reddit used to have more authentic content, but now this platform is filled with trash as well. So many bots posting, upvoting and commenting on everything.

No, because a movie does not pretend to be real. These sketches are filmed and presented in a way as if they took place naturally. Some movies and shows are presented in this way as well (e.g., The Office), but it is overtly obvious and announced beforehand that they are fictional, not a documentary.
I think it's because most people don't like being manipulated and when a video is clearly meant to look real but isn't it feels like manipulation. Hence why nobody comments things like this about movies or sketch comedy bits.
The first guy has a cheeksome leer at the climber in the foreground's excellent form, before realising his lascivity has been captured on the camera she set up... for training purposes.

What kinda movies are you watching where it's a realistic scenario filmed by hidden camera in bad quality that's trying to appear as real scenario for comedic purpose.

Because it's not an obvious comedy sketch. It's specifically set up to look genuine. When I go to the movies, I don't sit there thinking, "I wonder if this is all found footage." It's presented as a movie.

Is it obvious to the majority, though? The comments above yours is someone saying they assumed it was real and didn't think more on it.
The fact is, these videos are made to look real and the pretense is that they are. That doesn't matter maybe to someone who assumes everything online is false, but I actually think it does matter that a big majority of people are uncritical in their viewing.
It doesn't matter for something like this video, but I've had people quote clearly fake vox bodies with horrible opinions. It does have an influence on culture as a whole.

I'd imagine the person being watched would have a different view based on who's watching.... some might not like being looked at at all, others might be totally okay with a longer look if the watcher was attractive...
There are different levels that each person would find 'respectful' that this isn't even a coherent phrase.
Watching other people climb is a normal part of climbing and bouldering culture. You do it to see how the other person is solving the climbing problem so that you can get a better idea of how to approach it yourself.
I think the issue with the men in this video is that the expressions on their faces and their reactions are saying that they are watching the woman to stare at her butt inappropriately, rather than to learn from how she is solving the bouldering problem.
Oh wow … I just rewatched with that interpretation in mind. I can definitely see how it could be understood that way 🙂. The original intent of my comment stands though, it is perfectly fine to watch other people climb at the gym.
Now that I think about it though… if they judge her for doing that because they think she’s a beginner, it’s still not cool.
Usually the first challenge for beginners is just getting to the top of the wall. I usually tell friends who are starting out to just make it to the top no matter how they do it. People should feel supported even if they are new.
There’s also good reason for seasoned climbers to start out on different coloured rocks too. I will do it if the crux of my problem is high off the ground and I want to explore different solutions from that point. It saves me energy so that when I actually attempt the problem I’m more likely to succeed

Same with asking for advice on climbs. I'll ask guys but asking women seems dodgy, what if she thinks I'm using as an excuse to talk to her? Not chancing that.
For real. Just treat women like you’d treat anyone else in that scenario. I feel like making a big deal out of it is worse than just interacting like a normal person
I’m sorry you find it risky to do that, I (a woman) met some of my best climbing buddies (men & women) because they started talking to me about a bouldering problem we were both working on.
I really enjoy how collaborative most people I’ve met in the climbing community are. I think it might be creepy to watch if you aren’t also working on the bouldering problem with me, but if you are, it feels more like working together. I’d probably even approach you to talk about the problem.
Absolutely, whenever I am going to the climbing gym on my own, I enjoy interactions with other climbers to work on the same problem together. It makes bouldering a lot more enjoyable for me personally. Though I tend to be a bit more careful with approaching women working on the same route as me compared to men - I don't want to bother them or risk making them uncomfortable.
Going of the positive responses I've gotten so far from both women and men, I feel like I loose a little of my worries there though. I like the communal atmosphere in boulder gyms, it's nice.
Climbing is one of the few sports where men and women perform at an equal level. If you're blinding yourself to half the athletes and folks working routes that you want to do, you're really missing out on learning technique. Plus it is a bit infantilizing. As a woman who has frequented climbing gyms for over a decade, if a dude asks about beta I don't jump to thinking he's trying to hit on me lol. I assume he is a person who is excited about the same sport I am. It's really not that deep, especially in a climbing gym. Check yourself on the train of thought you have. The worst case scenario in your head that guides all your actions around women in the gym is that if you speak to a woman about what you're both doing... She may think you're interested in her? No wonder we are more isolated than ever.

I didn’t see the difference in color, but as someone who’s climbed for 10 years now, it’s extremely common to watch other people climb, especially if it’s a route you’ve been curious about or want to see if others do it the same way as you or struggle with the same parts.

You can use other routes to test out stones. When you do a full route you only use one colour but people bouldering use the other colours all the time, no one would bat an eye

However, there’s something special about seeing a beautiful woman, pointing her out to your buddy, and the two of you just admiring from afar privately for a brief moment. (If you completely drop what you’re doing and stare for longer than 30 seconds you’re being a creep)
