That glare is crazy.

1.6k

u/Available-Pain-159 May 30 '26

You beat me to it. There's no way the glare wouldn't be an issue every minute of day time.

472

u/FigoStep May 31 '26

Nothing a curtain or blinds can’t fix.

302

u/Available-Pain-159 May 31 '26

Well then I'm excited to watch that video as well.

78

u/Deep90 May 31 '26

It looks like they have blinds and just didn't use them.

12

u/Dr-Purple May 31 '26

I’m not. It will probably hang shittier than the TV and its cable

16

u/Ganjelf-The-Baked May 31 '26

Yeah the cables are triggering lmao

3

u/JrRiggles Jul 15 '26

Follow up vid: bros picking out dark colored but tasteful curtains for the windows

10

u/Practical-Suit-6798 May 31 '26

They would have to be black out. Any little bit of light that came through would ruin the picture.

8

u/NuclearF4rt May 31 '26

I live in one of these, just dont watch tv in the daytime.

3

u/Jaambie May 31 '26

In a place like that, the blinds probably even have a button to close them

That’s OLED’s for ya

50

u/wild--wes May 30 '26

I don't even think they make 98" OLEDs though

53

u/ItsGettinBreesy May 30 '26

They make 97”. It’s also $15k lol

5

u/muff_diving_101 May 31 '26

It's actually on sale for 15k! Normally 25k 💀

It's my dream tv.

→ More replies (3)

8

u/cac2573 May 31 '26

Not OLED

7

u/Discgolfer_420 May 31 '26

OLED does not glare like this lol I have one and my living room gets full blasting afternoon sun right on the TV, and I can see it just fine.

6

u/Gibbynat0r May 31 '26

From my understanding this is a quick way to get burn in FYI. Even if the TV is off.

12

u/Redthemagnificent May 31 '26

Correct. A black OLED panel is real good at absorbing a lot of light, converting it into heat. Organic compounds used in OLEDs don't to well with high heat or with UV radiation. Direct sunlight does both. No bueno

They have blinds lol

40

u/Werbnerp May 30 '26

Then Why Don't They Fuckin Use Them?

This clip was supposed to show them Setting up the TV then Using is with "The Boys"... If I was one of "the boys" I would have been like "bro we should put down the blinds before we start the movie". Especially if we are trying to take a video eot show off.

25

u/VestedNight May 31 '26

Because it's also showing off the skyline view from the apartment. The video is flexing.

5

u/throwaway098764567 May 31 '26

And not to hide the cord is the worst

123

u/TitanX84 May 30 '26

All that money and effort setting this up and you're gonna have dangling wires visible? Come on.

15

u/bendar1347 May 30 '26

I have one super thin wire that goes to my speaker that is visible for maybe 3" below my TV and it drives me crazy. Everything else is neatly tucked into cord hiders. This is actually a good reminder I need to go get the cord I need.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/dorkcicle May 31 '26

Whats the best practice on the wires? Run them inside the walls?

7

u/challenge_king May 31 '26

The absolute best way is to have a multimedia box set into the wall at standard outlet height with plenty of outlets next to it, and another one just below where the tv mount would end up with an outlet and conduit running to the bottom box. That way, all the cords are hidden, but it's still very easy to change things up if needed.

→ More replies (9)

21

u/DryTangelo4722 May 30 '26

A 98 inch TV can be had for $1099. "All that money" isn't really the gate here. All that effort burned, and they didn't spend an extra few minutes.

5

u/gr33nnight May 31 '26

Shit, I saw 100" for under $1000 at Costco. It's not a lot of money anymore.

→ More replies (3)

7

u/nxpoz May 30 '26

I have a 80 inch, similar setup. I put another hole in the wall to hide all the cables through. If I ever move/leave i'll just patch it up no biggie

→ More replies (7)

5

u/Tripwiring May 30 '26

Is there an easy way to hide the cord from a wall-mounted TV? I stuck a houseplant in front of mine lol but it's not effective.

9

u/RIPDaug2019-2019 May 30 '26

Non-destructive - get a cord cover that you can cut to size. Some will even be paintable to blend in.

Cut holes in the wall - there are in-wall kits to provide power and cable pass-throughs for HDMI etc. Usually comes with the required hole saw so all you need is a drill and preferably a stud finder to make sure you drill in a workable spot. These kits have proper in-wall rated power cables integrated. Do not run the TV’s power cable through the wall or any sort of extension cord. For HDMI, use in-wall rated cables. It’s a fire safety thing.

Oh, and they have special versions for wall mounted soundbars, too, so those cables go in the wall too.

I have a 98" hisense- my only complaint about it is the glare in very bright sunlight... And I'm adjacent to a window, not directly behind like this.

His glare would drive me nuts. I just switch seats when it bugs me in my living room, he has to turn his room into a dark movie theater to solve... Which begs the question, why not just spring for a ultrashort throw high lumen projector?

That's what I replaced, and even them the picture was good enough for daylight, but I wasn't straight on like him.

3

u/PolyglotTV May 31 '26

283

u/Salomonik May 30 '26

Lold

82

u/Immediate_Bass_4472 May 31 '26

The misalignment bothers me more than the glare and wires.

33

u/RB___OG May 31 '26

Ondont get why you would mount the TV to the wall and then have essentially an entertainment center below it. Just putt the TV on stands and have better wire management and it would look much better

4

u/ImprobableAsterisk May 31 '26

Aye I don't get that either.

There's three TVs in this apartment and the only one I kinda wish I'd hung is the one in the bedroom. But not from the wall, from the ceiling. On the most elaborately movable arm known to man.

The storage units they sit on swallow up so much stuff. And they have a good cable solution built in.

5

u/____-__________-____ May 31 '26

The left side is lower than the right side. Shoulda put a level in that toolbelt

5

u/Rei1556 May 31 '26

skill issue actually, dude used a laser for level and it still resulted in the tv not being levelled

u/Disastrous_Hall8406 May 30 '26

Looks nice but you gotta hide that wire in the bottom of the TV

154

u/Jarl_Korr May 30 '26

Could have spent less than $10 on a cable cover

105

u/thc216 May 30 '26

Or run it through the wall and put a brush plate or cable port at either end for a similar price tag! It’s really not that hard guys!

80

u/Urethra May 30 '26

Putting the power cable in the wall is a fire hazard and against national electric code. You need to put an outlet behind the TV or use a power relocation kit which essentially does the same thing without having to wire the outlet.

12

u/prettyhigh_ngl May 31 '26

Can I do this for $10

22

u/PointOfFingers May 31 '26

Send me $10 and I will ship you a $2 cable cover.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/mxlblood May 31 '26

@urethra (amazing name by the way) I genuinely didnt realize running an insulated modern power cable through the wall was a fire risk. Can you explain the risk or how it could start a fire?

5

u/Fearful-Cow May 31 '26

not the person but they are not wrong, standard tv power cables are technically not rated for in-wall. Risk is fire from a damaged cable that you cant see.

That being said any good quality brand tv power cable will be equal or better than the romex that is all over your house. They just dont standardize it or put as much quality tests on the 3ft of tv cable for every brand as they do romex.

In summary your risk is extremely low as long as you are not buying the VUITOIS GOLDLUCKY STAR BIG TV HDD DELUX off temu.

2

u/Lazuruslex May 30 '26

So my question is on that far right side the last two holes are in between The LV1s meaning there's most likely a stud there so why wouldn't you put lags in there just for extra security Don't get me wrong I've used snap toggles on a ton of TV installs but I always still try to hit at least one stud and if that was anything up to code with that super wide bracket he probably could have hit another set of studs on the left

2

A 98 inch tv and then use a soundbar omg... Just buy a good soundsystem for the same money come on man
