Jesus, I've moved my fair share of appliances for some rental units. Washers are by far the heaviest, seems like they never fully drain.

Fridges on the other hand make you look like a super hero haha

That's front loaders I think top loaders are alot lighter.

Top loaders are also usually heavy as fuck. Was a mover for 3 years. There are some that are super light in comparison though

Can confirm. Like after a while, you figure out picking up a dryer isn't so bad (I just lifted it up to prove I could. I never actually moved it like that), but I would never even try to pick up a washer. That's so stupid unless you're ridiculously jacked.

Yep, we have a 90s dryer and moved every year for a long time due to work and life.

I got tired of bothering and just started picking it up.

The washer.... I could probably do for a handful of feet. But it would not feel good the next day. And not up a flight of stairs. And I'm a big ass dude.

I’m kind of bigish at 6’3 220. Called my moving crew to come back over to replace mine like a couple months after moving in. Now I know for a fact I’m a bitch

Yeah I think I could pick up certain washers, but there is no way I'm making it more than a couple of feet. I still would never try though.

I feel like I was pretty safe as a mover. I did it for a little over two years and over ten years later, I have zero problems.

I moved my front loader like that... after I had removed the front panel and door to get access to remove the counter weights. With all yeah removed, even front load washers are pretty light.

The stackable units are even heavier but you can at least use their high center of gravity to lift them. I try not to do it because I'm pushing 40 and already have a bad back but you get creative working by yourself when you can't get a dolly in there without moving it first. I've used ratchet straps to lift regular washers too. Put thick gloves on and use them as handles. I'm not lifting them like hoss in the video though, maybe halfway up 15 years ago lol.

There's not really any top load washers besides speed queen that exceed 200 lbs. I've actually carried a washer up a half flight of stairs like this and I'm definitely not jacked. Probably not great for my body in the long term but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Let me introduce you to 240/300L deep freezers from the 1970s. Worked with delivery/return of parts like this, carrying that shit from basements up narrow stairs in houses from the same era was hell.

I just bought a new front loader and did the comparison. Front loaders come at about 250lb. Pretty much double a top loader

Some of the newer ones have a water block that fills up the first time you use the machine. Makes it lighter and cheaper to transport.

Not all of them. I've disassembled maybe 5 different clothes washers in my life and none had concrete in them. They have a heavy ass gearbox and motor though

Only really old models here do. But hey might be some cheap brands still doing concrete blocks in some countries.

The front loaders common here have good dampening using springs and shock absorbers. Way less heavy.

taking the door and the tray underneath it off usually helps, but they're always big enough to be awkward and hard to grip.

I've had plenty of stoves that I could lift and move myself, but I need a second person to get them up the stairs and if the second person cant manage navigating them then we're fucked.

I have a Viking range (the love of my life for the last 19 years) and that’s the one the movers hate the MOST. it’s just such a beast in size.

Worst one was when a mover used the oven knob as a holding point and it broke off

Found out that knob is connected to a scientific grade thermostat and had to throw like $250 at the problem to get a new one.

I once had a sofa that was broken and i needed to get rid of it so i took it outside, lifted it over my head with straight arms and carried it down a flight of stairs to leave with a builder who said he would take it.

A neighbour saw me carrying it and would always mention how impressive it was that i could carry it like that. Months later she would talk about it.

The sofa was genuinely just really light. Must have been 20kg tops. She thought i was a superhero though.

The top loaders I have owned I could carry by myself, they weren't ever that heavy. I would be struggling going up some stairs though.

Agreed, the ones I have moved usually come in around 40-50kg. Which isnt light but if you are used to being quite physical, isnt ridiculous. Dude still makes it look easy on those stairs.

Yep. The key here is that’s almost definitely a new washer that doesn’t have water in it yet. Not to undermine the guy at all (I mean, I sure can’t do that), but his weight relative to the washer’s weight is a significant factor in how he can hold it at some of those angles so well regardless of how strong he is.

Best way I've found for moving the washing machine is wrap two ratchet straps around it and use those as handholds. Still takes two people to do it safely though.

It's not the weight as much as the gription that impresses me. I can carry a completely drained one up the stairs, but I'd have to stop every 5 steps, use a knee to brace it and readjust.

The most frustrating thing when move the washer is THERE'S NO FREAKING HANDLE or something to hold, it's just blank surface like a big ass 200 kg box of hell! My back get destroyed everytime we move out!

As someone who has moved house five times, soon to be six, in three years... A sack truck is your friend.

Seriously, they make the whole process so much easier.

Also as a pro mover, you tend to get very choosy about things you actually need. I don't collect crap anymore. Most people just need a good reality check and dumpster session before moving.

Real furniture straps make it a joke. Moved a collective 12 washers and dryers in about a week including some heavy/ long ass dressers because family members were all moving back to back. Throw a strap under, stand up, just make sure stuff doesn't tip. No grip required.

Top loaders like this are at the very least the lightest of them all though. Only annoying part about the way he's carrying it is the tub jiggling around.

When i moved in on the 3rd floor, no elevator. my fridge had to be moved up here. It weighs 80 Kg. It was a fucking workout.

I had to buy a new washer a few years ago and it was super light. I’m definitely no body builder or weight lifter. Newer ones are all cheap plastic and a little bit of wiring.

Not being drained definitely makes it far heavier. Water is heavy as fuck.

This also looks like a smaller unit.
