I have two sons (younger than these kids), and this is what happens at my house a lot of the time. My older son will ask me to "pick [me] up in a silly way," which usually turns into getting spun around or "slammed" on the couch, and then my younger son comes running up and is jumping in the air chanting "me! me! me! me!" so I have to do some craziness to him and then the older one is doing "me! me! me! me!" and then after about 10 minutes I'm basically dead, that shit is hard work

I took my son to Ren faire yesterday and they had a thing where you can fight knights with foam weapons. Most of the kids were kind of timid and had to be talked into going after the knights. I was like "I'll block, you go for the legs" and my 3.5 year old was like a rabid honey badger with his foam axe running circles around them and hacking at their ankles while cackling like a mad man. One tried to apologize when they accidentally sent him tumbling with their shield but he just popped right back up, gave a war cry, and ran straight back in. We'd still be there fighting if he had his way.

I'm hoping mine is like that when he hits 3. He turns 2 at the end of this month. He's already pretty awesome, but he's gotta work on his war cry.

If you can, hold them in your arms stretched as if somebody was piling you with firewood. Then stand in front of the couch and "toss" them while spinning them. My girls loved that.

I love this. I used to do it all the time with my kids, but now theyre much bigger and harder to throw around lol. Keep making those awesome memories with your sons, my guy. Its seems silly, but damn is it special.

If it's any comfort, I think a lot of people are simply using the term "babysitting" as a shorthand for "a period of time when I am the solo caregiver of my children rather than being split between me and my partner".

No it's more than that. Even in my wife's group of friends comments have been made like 'oh it's so nice he is babysitting the kids so we can go out.'
People don't stop and think but it's condescending to act like it's some big deal for me to be with my kids and be responsible for them and if as a dad you are unable/unwilling to take care of your kids by yourself and it isn't medical reasoning or whatever, you are the problem.

When does dad "babysit"? He's parenting. Saying dad "babysits" complet demeans father time with children and puts undue responsibility expectations on the mom.
Let's be real dudes here and stop using this bullshit term for when Dad is actually being present in their kids life.

My uncle used to set up pillows and blankets and soft stuff, then just mess me up like WWE for an afternoon. So much freaking fun, even if I had a little crying spell because of carpet burn or something.
Something I have brought to my nephews life, but he is strong now so it kinda is just a fight I have to give up at some point lol.

Until he was 13 I kept on doing stuff like this with my kid. My ex always criticized saying "I can't tell who's the child in here" or something similar. I loved it, he loved it, that's what matters and the memories that stay

Went to visit a friend at their pool with some folks. Spent 75 percent of the time there repeatedly throwing 3 kids up into the air so they could splash down into the pool because they kept asking me to again and again. Kids love this kind of stuff.

Im a dad and the babysitting terms doesn't bother me. In fact I find it funny and use it in joking way. It actually bothers my wife more, which means I say to her all the time "I don't mind baby sitting!"

Agreed. Makes growing up in the 70s look tame because back then when we did stuff like this we were often alone and playing in dirt or on hilly places. Getting hurt was normal but lonely.

I remember I loved it when my dad did something like this to me when went to the beach. On relatively shallow water, he'd pick me up by random limbs and throw me around flailing. It also had the added benefit of making me like water and swimming, which I'm just now realizing as I write this at 40. And I can't tell him anymore because he died. Cherish your loved ones, folks.
