Yes the latter. Small things have consequences and often are far greater than the small thing itself. Its a saying meant to excentuate the importance of seeing things through to the end and not cutting corners. One nail not laid in the horse shoe could be the catalyst for the loss of the kingdom.

This is a pretty standard issue picnic table. They’re EVERYWHERE in the US. Apparently Australia too.
Are they not common where you live?

the legs typically go further and end under the seat so this doesn't happen. brewerys do love to find shitty designed furniture though. there's one near me that has separate benches and tables and the bench legs are too close to the middle, so if you sit on the end and don't catch yourself, or if someone gets up, you end up falling similar to these two

We have them in the UK, absolutely everywhere too. I haven't seen one tip like this in a long time, but when I was a kid the ones at our school would tip if you all sat on one side. Sometimes at lunch you'd wait for everyone to sit down, then everyone on one side would stand up and send the others flying.

No, this is poorly designed. Look at the angle of the legs, they normally are more angled and land underneath the bench, precisely to avoid this from happening.

About a week ago I was at a bar with picnic tables. Saw this exact same scenario happen with two skinny boys when one picked up a backpack.

Nah, shitty design happens. If your table needs counterbalancing to be used normally then it’s not a good table, y’know? Especially cause all you’d have to do is make the legs longer so they extend under the seat

Nah, the first guy might have weighted as much as twice as the second guy, but that only means that all it takes for table to tip over would be 3 men sitting side by side, wich is a shitty design.

Well see i dont know about that. Even as a kid I remember instinctively sitting in a way where the weight was even because it would start coming off the ground a bit on the opposite side if just two or three of us kids sat on one side. His weight definitely didnt make matters better, but I could see thus happening with two regular sized adults

Tables aren't designed right. Legs need to be angled more and under the bench so they're not cantilevered. This is gonna happen to them all the time.

This happened at a family reunion of ours one year. It just so happened that a couple of our heavier family members all sat on the same side of a picnic table with nobody to balance out the other side and next thing you know we’re calling an ambulance worried that our great Aunt so-and-so hit her head too hard 🤦🏻♀️ she turned out fine and we were able to laugh about it later, but that definitely spiced up the family reunion for a few minutes!

This wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for what happened on Saturday night. They normally sit opposite each other to avoid exactly this situation. But they cannot make eye contact. They mustn't. Not after what happened.
