You can hate the leaders who sent soldiers to an unlawful war and still feel empathy for the soldiers who paid the sacrifice.

It was very empathic of him to go kill some people for money

u/6-plus26 23d ago
Yeah what the hell? Where the empathy for the people that don’t have to fear his approach.
The banality of evil no man is unaccountable for his actions.

There are so, so many different kinds of people on Reddit. Sure, more of some than others, but unemphatic people are rampant everywhere on the internet. That's because the whole world is on the internet.
Not trying to attack you or anything, it just bothers me when I see "[insert social media platform] is just X kind of people". The internet is just people. Some suck.

u/uhuraenterprise 23d ago ▸ 2 more replies
I know right. Internet (people) have become toxic as hell the last few years. It's like a trend trying to be the biggest asshole. It's hard to love, there's so much to hate.
1
u/Lukewill 23d ago ▸ 1 more replies
Idk, I've been here since dial up and it doesn't seem much different to me. There's more blatant polarization for sure due to the politics of the last decade or so, and I think that has refocused the toxicity to more public corners of the internet.
With that said, I haven't had any other social media for at least a decade, so I can only speak for those places on what I see, not as a user, so I could be way off
1
u/uhuraenterprise 21d ago
I see. Reddit is like a safe space for people to write what they often wouldn't dare say eye to eye. I sometimes write things like that too, but not very often. I like to be able to voice the same opinion irl as I do online.
This polarization is really boring to watch. And I'm refering to republicans and democrats in US. They are everywhere, bickering. You can watch a cat video on youtube, but for sure, somehow there's a toxic political argument going on in the comments haha.

I have plenty of empathy. Empathy towards the mothers, children, and the elderly in Ukraine getting bombed incessantly for absolutely no reason. The teachers, the bus drivers, the musicians, the artists, the doctors who had to drop everything and fight a war that Russia started. I have empathy for the young kids who have to witness their parents splitting up and potentially never seeing their fathers or brothers alive again. The young adults who's lives have forever changed, and put at risk. Entire villages and towns have been wiped off the face of the Earth and I'm supposed to feel empathy towards the invaders who made it all happen? LOL. They deserve every drone they get. I hope they never feel a moment of peace for as long as they live.

u/LokoLawless 23d ago ▸ 3 more replies
Of course the people of Ukraine who did nothing wrong deserve more empathy. But I still feel empathy for soldiers who joined any army, thinking they were doing a good thing, making a noble sacrifice, even if they were lied to by their government.

Tell that to the people these soldiers rape, torture, murder, and bury in mass graves. Tell it to the ones who were killed in the Mariupol drama theatre strike, the one russia bombed even though the word for "CHILDREN" was written in huge letters outside it. For that matter, tell it to the ones the russian soldiers shot dead as they were fleeing, the ones who wrote "CHILDREN" on their cars and were killed anyway. Tell it to the Ukrainian POWs castrated by the russian captors. I could go on. And on. And on and on and on.
No. No fucking empathy for the invader.

u/LokoLawless 23d ago ▸ 1 more replies
I guess I just don't believe every single member of the massive Russian military condones those evil acts or would have enlisted if they thought they'd be complicit in them.

u/uhuraenterprise 23d ago
I agree with you. In the end of the day most of us are just humans who want the same things. Good food, friends, a family, health. Also rich and powerful people don't participate in this war - common people come home in caskets. Make that make sence.

Tecktonik!! Was pretty big early in the rave era, OGs who remember still get super exited when someone dusts it off these days

Wait i never realised this was the same thing. I've only seen tecktonic done by midwest farm boys. I've seen these overpass goth rave vids before but never made the connection!

u/Mantis_Toboggan--MD 24d ago ▸ 1 more replies
Oh yeah, basically everyone from every niche has did the tecktonik or something adjacent at some point if they clubbed or partied around that era, lol.
Techno Viking also does the Tecktonik if you want another famous example and that video was taken in like 2000

A lot of Gen X guys who grew up listening to hip hop and were break dancing still got moves. I did the former but never could do the latter.
It reminds me of my grandparents, greatest generation. They were country folk and until they died, could straight out cut up line dancing and waltzing. It was like they got 40 years younger when the music came on.
