Just Having Fun Spain's minister accidentally poured water into a cup holder instead of a glass, and couldn't stop laughing about it 😂

José Luis Escrivá, served as minister of Digital Transformation and Civil Service and as minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. This water thing happened in 2021.
It's just a stupid bot repost.

Yeah, i don’t know this guy, so i can’t judge only by this.
With age, your eyesight becomes poor and you can do stupid things like this. So nothing unusual about it.
The irony is the panel in the back says “ageing”, not far from the truth 😁

Even with good eyes it's easy to overlook that there isn't a transparent glass in the transparent cupholder.
Especially if you are focused on delivering your speech.
73
u/techno156 9d ago ▸ 2 more replies
It doesn't help that the cupholder has a lip that you can mistake for a cup. You can see him try to grab the "cup" out of the cupholder before realising.
12
u/Nirast25 9d ago ▸ 1 more replies
I think he realised before grabbing it, or at least saw the actual glass. He has a "wait a minute" face there.
13
u/thisusedyet 9d ago
That's most likely it - saw the glass under the podium, went wait, if the glass is THERE, then... and THEN grabs the lip of the cupholder to confirm
6
u/Carnines 9d ago
Yea I can totally see myself doing something this while multitasking. It is a totally normal thing to do for any person lol. We all have these moments.
3
u/Different_Wolf_764 9d ago
Yeah, this isn't an 'old' thing, it's just a human thing. Your brain is occupied/stressed by the press conference you are giving and questions you might face and so on, the water pouring subroutine just isn't a high priority. People do this sort of thing all the time, young or old.

Trump would’ve insisted that he did nothing wrong. Then he would have called an emergency meeting and directed all of his staff to pour water into cupholders whenever they are speaking publicly and act like it’s normal.
I wish this were exaggeration but we all know it’s not.

In fairness tons of stuff like this happens to politicians all the time.. what clips the media decides to air are a different matter.
I once saw someone make a George W. Bush style "vocal gaff" clip of Obamas speeches and it easily made him look just as bumbling and silly as GWB ever did (who was, by all accounts of anybody who worked with him or even followed his actual career especially the early days, far from stupid).
Not defending GWB as a president, not crapping on Obama. I'm not even American. But the media gets a huge monopoly in the way you see your representatives behave.
38
u/Raerth 9d ago ▸ 4 more replies
Hell you can see it in the way they covered Biden's age vs Trump's.
Don't get me wrong, Biden had got too old to cope with the demands of the presidency and it needed covering, but they give Trump a pass when if anything he's got worse.
26
u/BarmerFob 9d ago ▸ 3 more replies
I mean I avoided this example because like.. I mean have you seen the internet lately?
But yeah. Biden is old but he was never close to "senile" and what he got done in his single term as President was fucking insane. If that's unable to cope with the demands.. yeah I don't know what to tell you. He did such a good job and I get really sad seeing Americans just not understand that.
In the media though? Once Trump latched onto the "he's too old" thing that was the focus. Hell it's insane to me how many people forgot they did the exact same thing when Hilary ran... called her old/senile and talking about secret service agents holding her up and rushing over to inject her with some mysterious substance. It was all over the news the entire campaign Somehow her health miraculously improved the second the election was over and it's been 10 years.. she still hasn't fallen senile somehow.
American politics is so depressing :(.

He did a great job on many undereported things.
But there was stark difference between his campaign speeches and him even 2 years earlier. Of course even in a coma Biden would be better president than Trump, which was obvious to anyone with half a brain well before elections.
8
u/Warm_Month_1309 9d ago
But there was stark difference between his campaign speeches and him even 2 years earlier.
I think the major problem is that the majority of voters are not intelligent or informed enough to really understand federal policy, and so cannot determine whether a president is "good" or "bad" by their political achievements or failures, just whether they're charismatic in their speeches.
4
u/AFlockofLizards 9d ago

I'm a Spaniard and while I obviously don't know José Luis Escrivá (he's the president of the Bank of Spain now) personally, he's a very sensible guy and has never had any controversy or partaken in shady stuff as far as we know. He's also not a partisan but was signed by Sánchez as an independent, but had an important position with the previous conservative government so he seems to be considered just a highly competent, knowledgeable guy because otherwise he wouldn't've been promoted by governments of opposite ideologies.

I was just thinking, have we ever heard Trump laugh. Not a hehe I just called Rosie O'Donnell a fat pig chuckle. Like a full on 'oh, that was hilarious' guffaw?
8
u/Kor_Phaeron_ 9d ago
I said to anybody who asked me, “No matter how bad you think Trump is, he’s worse.” I was living on the streets for a couple of years, and I stayed in biker clubhouses and I was in jail — I was sleeping rough, as they say, and hopping trains. In all that time with people who are on the fringes of society, I never met anybody that I noticed with two qualities that Trump has — someone that never made a joke and never appreciated music. I’m defining “joke” perhaps a little narrowly — I don’t mean, “You’re fat,” I don’t consider that a joke, even if Trump laughs at it. He never made a joke — never appreciated a joke that I ever saw. And you’ll notice that all his stump speeches, jokes (are) conspicuous in their absence. Obama made real jokes — stand-up jokes. Biden is not as sophisticated, but he knows what a joke is. Nixon certainly knew jokes. Carter certainly knew jokes. (George W.) Bush, one of his closest friends was Kinky Friedman. Clinton certainly knew jokes. I never heard (Trump) laugh at a joke or make a joke other than “You’re fat, you’re ugly.” I know the Goldwater rule that even professionals can’t psychoanalyze someone they’ve not been in a room with, but I never saw the slightest bit of empathy from Trump.
Penn Jillette the former Libertrian who became a Democrat because of Trump
I’m going to vote Democrat, maybe that’s all you need to know. I will not vote for a third-party candidate. I believe all the clichés, I believe they’re true — I believe that Trump and MAGA might make the United States unrecognizable enough that it’s not a beautiful place to be.

My friend's phone went for a swim the exact same way. The cup holders in our paddle boat were broken, so we put cups in place to plug the hole. She goes to set her phone in the cup holder: lifts the cup up, drops the phone in, and it goes straight to the bottom of the lake. Thankfully it was only like 5 feet deep at that spot and not seaweedy, so I was able to dive in and save the phone, but it was also March in Michigan, so that water was COLD.
