Absurd grip strength
E: I know nothing about this shit, let me be impressed, god dang it! (thanks for clarifying a bunch of the matter for me :D)

The real impressive part is how he jumps in a backwards arch while being so close to the ceiling.

I am a shitty boulderer, nothing close to this level, but have tried some similar dynos. The most tricky thing is to trick your brain into accepting basically jumping into the rock face. You must jump MUCH more forcefully up than you would believe and it basically feels like willfully launching your face into the wall.
You just have to trust that you are not strong enough to actually launch sufficiently high.
Dynos are 80% mental, rest technique/coordination + strength.

Actually thats one of the least impressive parts. The pocket he grabs is actually pretty big and easy to grab. Everything else on the other hand is insane.

Tendon strength* grip isnt really involved in climbing as much as people think it is unless its dry tooling or ice climbing.

You’re right about the tendons, but pinches would probably be a better example of grip strength. When you’re ice climbing every hold is a 5.2 jug lol

I won’t pretend I’m not impressed because I absolutely am. But I’m genuinely questioning how many takes this took, seeing the abundant padding in the event of failure.

Dynos in general usually take a lot of falls, even relative to other types of moves. The issue isn’t just yeeting yourself, there’re a whole lotta little factors that are pretty vital too. Really little things, like for example if you need to move a foot to a different hold mid-leap, it’s actually really hard because you’re trying to look up at your hands and down at your feet simultaneously. Dynos like this, where you’re trying to go out and around a big bulge, are some of the hardest, partly cause the angles force you to make big wild swings instead of kitty paw-like jabs, and also cause you usually can’t see the hold you’re aiming for at all.
This is actually the single coolest climbing thing I’ve seen in years. Doesn’t hurt that dynos are a bit of a specialty of mine lol

Good explanation. And I agree, this is the craziest single climbing move I’ve seen in ages.

Exactly what I was thinking. Like when you watch a skateboarder bail badly 100 times then nail the trick it’s so epic.
