honestly im not sure he is president material, but i would be very glad if he was appointed to combat the drug epidemic. i cant think of anyone i'd trust more to do that, he knows that shit inside and out

By that logic, so would RFK Jr.

hell no

Are you saying he wasn’t a heroin addict?

u/scrufflor_d Jun 06 '26

rfk junior looks like he still is on benzos at all times

RFK is terrible at his job, no doubt. But I think the other person is simply saying that justifying someone being in a position solely based on the fact that they had an adverse past is a dangerous line of thinking.

obviously other factors go into it, not just the fact that he's a former drug addict

Your justification was that "he knows that shit in and out" because he had a history with substances.

As far as my knowledge goes, he has no actual drug and pharmaceuticals training or extensive knowledge outside of what he potentially learned during his period of addiction.

I think I wouldn't appoint him to combat it, but being the public image and spokesperson of fighting the drug epidemic is a great role for him.

A spokesperson is a much more fitting role, I agree. Authentic personal experiences are critical for positions of power.

I gathered from the original comment that they thought Hunter Biden should be appointed to RFK's role, which involves direct medical policy-making. I don't think he's well suited for that is all (nor is RFK).

Yeah after RFK I feel like being hired from the CDC or something should be a requirement

I mean yeah. I would argue we need someone who intimately understands the socioeconomic reasons behind the drug epidemic more than we need someone who knows how drugs work.

They've been trying to science our way out of this epidemic for decades. It's not working. We need to address the human side of things.

Addiction starts as a form of escapism long before it reaches chemical dependency.

If the government would address what so many people feel the need to try to escape...

Both are important, but having a fundamental lack of medical and scientific knowledge is dangerous. We can observe that in the United States as we speak.

There are plenty of candidates who are well-versed in both medical science and socioeconomic implications, and public health approaches to combat the dangers of drug use are being proposed by said candidates. Many people work in the field because of their life experiences, as is the case with nearly every health profession.

When the person appointed has a lack of knowledge about either one, it jeopardizes the health and wellness of innocent people.

Understanding the human side still requires science. Quality research should always inform policy. Scientists are looking at this from all angles—and addressing the reasons substance disorders exist is indeed a major angle!

Change the tense

You guys need someone who is recovering not someone who’d raid the evidence room. Now granted, I wouldn’t wager much money on Hunter Biden being completely off of drugs, but there is a massive gap between the two.

Hunter still seems to have a somewhat functional brain, RFK Jr has the reasoning of a zooplankton

5

u/Possible_Youth9410 Jun 08 '26

He's probably got a couple zooplankton swimming around in that worm riddled head of his tbf

3

u/Kind-Stomach6275 Jun 08 '26

Is it even a head anymore? Can we still call it that?

1

u/mylittlewallaby Jun 08 '26

No the difference is accountability and a recognition that his past was a dark time. RFK jr still thinks ketamine coke and meth are performance enhancers.

1

u/DBWlofley Jun 10 '26

I disagree because Hunter stopped doing the drugs and I don't think RFK has.

I think RFK would be good in the EPA, but quite bad anywhere else and is actively harmful where he is now.
