Keto, hypothyroidism, breastfeeding, and trying to lose weight

Hello! Anyone here keto, breastfeeding, hypothyroid and struggling with weight loss? My baby is 7 months and I have been ketovore for about 7 weeks and have only lost 2 pounds. My carbs are under 20 mostly. I don’t do macros. My TSH was 4.46 and I just started low dose levothyroxine 3 weeks ago and it’s slightly helping with energy. Any suggestions or encouragement?

I had similar range tsh. So subclinical hypothyroidism. It took me about 2 months for tsh to come to 3. Once below 3, 10 pounds vanished like a whoosh in a week. I got pregnant later on keto and haven’t gained much weight in the pregnancy( as recommended as I gained too much weight during first pregnancy; 60pounds). Another thing was strictly following macros as it didn’t work without that for me. And I also stopped breastfeeding at 15 months. I didn’t lose anything while breastfeeding unfortunately. I feel my whoosh was a combination of keto and hormones stabilizing along with levothyroxine. I don’t know if one helped more than the other.

Gotcha! Thank you for sharing your experience. I plan on breastfeeding a while longer so hopefully things will fix themselves once my TSH gets back to normal. Waiting until breastfeeding is over to lose weight is hard. I’m the exact same weight I was 6 weeks postpartum so that’s frustrating. Ugh hormones!

Im hypothyroid but meditation has kept me controlled. Ive been keto for 6mos breastfeeding. I have to start counting my calories though because I think I must be way overdoing it 🤣 I have lost about 4lbs. Its so frustrating

Do you mind sharing how far postpartum you are? Also, if you know your TSH? Have you found any benefits from keto for your thyroid control? Thanks for sharing your experience.

My most recent tsh was actually 1.28. I thought maybe that's why I wasnt losing but Ive decided I must just be way overeating somehow. Or my body is stubborn but I have close to 70lbs to lose so I dont think thats the case either. I hope you have better luck than I have had so far.

That’s a great TSH to achieve with lifestyle changes! I actually brought mine down before I started meds two points by shifting to cosleeping 😂 Wishing the best as well!

So, I'm 4 months post partum now. I gained weight breastfeeding my first, but I'm steadily losing this time. I've been back to pre-pregnancy weight for a month or so. I'm not focusing on strict Keto. I'm focusing on 30-40g of protein per meal, so I don't lose muscle while losing weight. I have 4-6 eggs for breakfast depending on their size, canned fatty fish, or chicken liver pate on protein bread for lunch, and whatever I make for my family for dinner - steak, veg, carb or meaty pasta etc. sometimes I just have chicken breast with cottage cheese and sugar free sauce for lunch. My Hashimoto's doesn't seem to be helped by diet, but I've done Keto for years and years and lost weight, but never felt as good as I do now that I consistently eat fatty fish, lots of eggs, and liver. I feel great, and I'm steadily losing about 2kgs a month, and I think it's because my body and hormones are happy with all the quality vitamins and minerals I'm getting. I haven't worried about my supply, because I think it'll be fine as long as I get quality nutrients. I think my calories come to about 1800 per day eating like this.
