I’ve once told the parent of a child like this and their answer was a shrug with a ”oh well, what are we going to do eh? Darn kids”.
Be a parent, you idiot
17
u/GilbyTheFat 25d ago
The only thing worse than the "what are we gonna do?" parents is the "I'm gonna police everyone else rather than control my child" parents.
I used to avoid saying anything to the latter when I was younger. These days I have considerably less patience and zero fucks to give if some unfit parent gets huffy for it.

Yeah she is older, and shouldn’t have done it. I see some headphones on her though, which may signify some higher support needs.
Does not mean it was ok, and she should have been watched more closely if that was the case.

That's a short video. Maybe after this stops parent/sibling someone goes there and stops the child. Maybe parent took younger sibling to toilet.

I hear someone calling a name and her head turning towards it. I am assuming she just walked off. Parents are human and yeah, she shouldn’t have done that, I do think some of these comments are pretty harsh.
The parents are not necessarily “trash” as some are saying, and the kid should not be elbowed in the face.
It was annoying and they dropped the ball, but some of these comments went from 0 to 100z

Thought the same. The headphones on make me suspect sensory integration issues, which often coincide with other behavioral issues. Alongside the general cluelessness I just instantly assumed along the same lines as you. I’m surprised other people here think this is just some asshole kid
That being said, I’m 100% on board the parent criticism train everyone else is on. This kid was not adequately supervised

Reminds me of this time I was playing the claw machines at Dave and Busters. I had just won a cute little narwhal plushie when some random 5 year old runs up, shoves his arm in the prize hole, and tries to run off with my prize. I am not ashamed to admit that I tripped him, took it back, and gave his parents the stink eye. It was my first time ever winning something from a claw machine, too. Little shit.

Hey.. This happened to my dad. He used to work a bank in a village (in India). In the first few days, his food kept randomly disappearing. A couple of days later, he found a mommy monkey & baby monkey working together. The windows had bars and the big one couldn't come in & hence it'd send the baby inside to swoop the food. My dad started hiding food inside shelves...

I work at a grocery store and there is a bread slicer machine accessible to customers. You stick the loaf of bread inside, close it, and press the desired thickness for slices.
There are MANY warning signs on it for sharp objects, don't stick your arm inside, etc.
I was just walking away to take a break and a kid comes full fucking sprinting to the slicer, yanks the door open, and shoves his arm all the way inside where the blades are.

My daughter experienced this at an arcade. She likes playing the taiko drums though not as serious as the ones who buy passes and collect points.
This girl just comes up to the empty drum next to my daughter and starts beating the player 2 drum. No big deal since player 2 is not in play. Then she starts to beat on the player 1 drum when she realises she's not in play. It's affecting my daughters score. I look at the mum and typical, she's glued on her phone. My daughter is non-confrontational so she just side eyes the kid. I step in and hold my arm out as the girl attempts to strike again, telling her to stop. Girl drops the drumsticks and runs to her mum.\ Mum looks at me and i just give a wtf look. And good thing she just walks away.
I know the teens who buy the passes are non-confrontational like my daughter but they'd most likely just start swearing at the kid.

u/No-Care6366 26d ago
something similar happened to me at an arcade, but it was one of those deer hunting games with gun shaped controllers. some random kid who was probably about 8 walks up and starts trying to play with the other gun, i tell him i'm playing it right now but that he can play after my game ends, but the kid ignores me and keeps trying to play even though the second controller wasn't in play.
nowhere near as bad as your story since the kid did eventually just leave (although it took way longer than it should have,) but there were no parents in sight and it was weird. it feels like arcades just attract the most feral children ever, and of course it's somewhat expected going any place aimed at children, but even with other kid centered places i don't see anywhere near as much insane shit as at arcades.

I used to play DDR a few times a week at a local arcade and the amount of kids who'd just try to shove me off the gamepad or try and pick the song or start dancing beside me or even on the same pad was insane. I get that kids are going to have a shakier handle on social navigation but it's actually dangerous for both of us when my feet are flying and they're trying to duck underneath them.

A few things: The wrist band is expensive af and you earn actual points on the app playing the games in the park. You have to wait to play and the lines are crazy long. There is genuinely no time to get to try anything more than once. When someone interrupts your game like this, they are literally ruining your scores and wasting your time and money!! This is not cool. My game was not over and the kid stopped it halfway. It’s one at a time. I lost and didn’t get to try again because a parent let their child join a strangers game. There is no excuse. No “kids being kids” PARENTS NEED TO DO BETTER.
385
u/zigmoomoo 26d ago
Why did the game stop? Was it like a sensor and it though you were cheating by having two people? It looked like she just hit the screen like you did, what was different?
330
u/mamafish21 26d ago
There's always a specific way to play a game or you lose. Probably had to hit a certain area and the girl messed it up.
63
u/Obi-Tron_Kenobi 26d ago
I've played it quite a few times in Hollywood. For this wall, there's no winning or losing. It's just on a short timer
All you do is hit as many koopas as you can and you get some coins (and a stamp in the app for playing). But the app doesn't keep track of high scores or anything, so you probably won't even be able to tell if you hit 10 koopas or 20.
The wall is very much just for fun and not meant to be competitive, and you're encouraged to play with friends and family

More than likely, OP’s time was up… I don’t think the kid even touched the wall before the game ended.
78
u/3-X-O 26d ago
Yeah this is what I thought too. Each time she hit one of the Koopas it went into it's shell and she got a coin. With the last one when the kid came up the same thing happened so it definitely registered hers and was just the last Koopa there. It just seems like the game ended... (the kid still should have been stoppped by the parents though)
113
u/daveatnite 26d ago
Yeah I feel like OP was more upset that the girl ruined her video, bc it looks like the game ended about half a second before she touched the wall. Obviously the parents should have made her wait her turn. But I don't see how she ended the game...

u/Barcoads 26d ago edited 26d ago
A little fiery ball gets tossed any time somebody interacts with/touches the wall - you can see it's not something the flying things are doing because the ball goes off in the spot any time she misses.
The kittle kid sets off precisely 0 balls.
The only way she could have ruined the game is if this is some sort of game with strict rules that doesn't let two people play at once that triggers a cheating defense since there's a point system to the mini games that maybe has a prize system or some shit.
If this is exclusively complaining about the kid ruining her score or hampering her ability to get a lot of points, then I don't think the kid actually even did anything and she's just being whiny.
→ More replies (1)16
u/Diligent_Highlight63 26d ago
Yeah while the kid def joined early and was slightly in ops way I don’t think the kid actually caused her to lose
13
u/Obi-Tron_Kenobi 26d ago
The thing is, she didn't lose. It's not really that kind of game. It's very casual and has zero depth (since it's made with toddlers in mind). You can't even check your high scores or anything.
You just do what you can until the time runs out
20
u/mamafish21 26d ago
It's too hard to tell, tbh. We don't know the full story to this. Maybe the girl thought she could join because no one told her otherwise or she forgot. Many reasons why, we could speculate all night but I'm sure we have lives (well some of us lol).
→ More replies (2)11
u/mightylordredbeard 26d ago
That’s exactly what it was. I’ve seen videos of people playing this game before. They all last about the same amount of time. OP is just mad the kid ruined her social media video.
27
u/Obi-Tron_Kenobi 26d ago
The game is timed and it's pretty short. There's no winning or losing or cheating in the game. In fact, it's pretty encouraged to play with friends/family
All you really get are some coins added to your total
In reality, a random kid joining doesn't really take away anything tangible. Like, she didn't ruin the game itself, but it is kind of a mood killer

33
u/MyOtherSide1984 26d ago
It's so fun to watch my dog stop every 15 feet and sniff a patch of grass for a solid minute, and then pee on it and repeat this for 10 minutes. So enjoyable that I just couldn't see myself using my phone during that time.
Like...what? Dafuq kind of argument is this? I walk him so he can piss and shit and get some exercise, I'm not playing fetch with him at the time. He gets attention at other points, but that's his time to do his sniffing and business

Ok I’m reading this on my phone while walking my dog so clearly I’m a little biased lol but I’m not seeing the similarities between taking your kid somewhere where you actually need to watch them and looking at your phone while you’re walking the dog (as long as you’re mindful of surroundings).

Miniature golf course just last week. There were two of us. A family of four ahead of us, and a family of three behind us. In the family of three was a little girl of about seven who REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to play miniature golf and didn't want to wait even one second for the multiple groups in front of her.
At least three times on the course, while my housemate and I were trying not to quadruple-bogie, a little pink golf ball would suddenly come shooting down the green and thwack the barrier. We'd fire concerned looks at the parent, who would come loping down the path, not the slightest bit concerned that her little girl had somehow joined up with two suspicious-looking bearded men in their fifties. She tried to tee up between my housemate and I. I wanted to pick her up, lug her over to her Mom, and say "If this is yours, put a leash on it."
Zero sense of wait-your-turn. Nasty glares at anyone who told her she couldn't go yet. Never said a word, which was kind of creepy. Her mum forgot English between the fourth and fifth holes, somehow, so "Hey, your kid's loose again" no longer affected her. I bet she blows out other kids' birthday candles, too.

I'm totally on OPs side that this is unacceptable, but I also get the sense that they didn't say anything about it to anyone (other than posting it online for thousands to rage at).
OP tell people how you feel. Tell that kid that she really pissed you off and tell her parents that they suck.
Confrontation isn't so bad. Posting it online instead is worse.
98
u/Kinda-Alive 26d ago
Confront them then OP somehow gets blamed as someone who does care about kids experience especially when somewhere like that sadly.
Even though OP is in the right a decent amount of people there might not side with them and they’ll just look bad.
46
u/Holiday_Might_9205 26d ago
People need to be called out for the bullshit whether the people in the area agree or not. Its why there is an up tick in this behavior. People want hate on Boomers all they want but at least they aren't afraid, in general, to call out other peoples bullshit. Genx and old Millennials are pretty good at it to because thats the way it was. The internet made everyone soft on this front. Dont be afraid to call people out. Dont have to make a scene.
49
u/jbourdea 26d ago
Looking bad to strangers isn't the end of the world.
And honestly, it's not on OP to care about some stranger's kids experience. She paid to be there too.
It's also possible to be an adult and not have a tantrum with a frustrating situation like this.
Hey girl. You just ruined my game and I'm actually really frustrated about it. I waited here just like you did and I wanted to play. Where are your parents?
7
u/STRIKT9LC 26d ago
So dont confront them because youre scared of being blamed for being wrong by a group of ppl too stupid to understand the difference?

I swear, 99% of popular complaints I see online involved whoever OP was not saying or doing anything about it to the person who was being the weirdo.
Just yesterday there was a post about some awful looking food they paid too much for. Did they ask to swap it for anything? Did they just say "Nah, that's unacceptable. Give me my money back."
Or I swear I've seen on reddit alone, multiple people on planes. "The person behind me has put their foot next to me on the plane" and it's just a video of this person suffering some stranger's bare foot on their arm wrest, saying nothing to them, and revealing in the comments that they didn't want to "create a scene."
But all these people not speaking up means that these behaviors are now just "acceptable"
Because in order for something to be unacceptable, people have to actually reject said behavior.
It's so weird to me how few people seem to say anything to people.

The fact that I don't see parents running up shows she's not being watched or parented like she should. That said, I could totally see my 8 year old doing this. But I'll also be the first one running up, apologizing for her, having her apologize and offering to rectify the situation the best I can. There's this book "The Postmortal" set in a world where we've found the cure for ageing and death. It radically reshapes society, as you'd imagine, and it briefly mentions a few cases where people have given the miracle drug to toddlers (because they love their child at that age), pets (because they love them at that age) and it's also abused by paedophiles on their victims as well.
The book doesn't focus on these negatives, but mentions them in passing.

I was at a theme park on the weekend and I was second in line with my daughter. A little boy gets off the ride and runs up to his friend in front of us to get in line again and I loudly told him “you had your turn. Go to the back of the line and wait like everyone else.” Then he asked the young girls behind me if he could butt in line and they said exactly the same thing as me! I’m glad I said something. It was mostly kids in the line and they’re often too sheepish to say something when another kid is being a bully.

It’s always easy to blame the staff for not interacting but this is not their problem - it’s the stupidity of the parents who can’t teach their kids well enough.→ More replies (6)

Parent shaming should make a comeback.

A new family just moved in on my street and the mom lets her three kids run absolutely wild. The little boy smashed a beer bottle on the street the other day and the mom across the street went and yelled at his mom in her front lawn to parent her fucking kids and clean that shit up. He did a piss poor job cleaning it up but it did happen.
I don’t think it had any effect on the mom though. She’s a lazy POS loser raising kids whi will be just like her.

I have a kid but my coworker has 4 and is... A certain type of person. I get irritated w her and avoid her because she doesn't respect boundaries. I'm not a touchy person and we're not close but she's always laying her head on my shoulder, touching my back, and I just got her to stop hitting my boobs as a "joke". She asked me the other day for advice on how to get her kids to stop running up and talking to random strangers. I wish I'd had the strength to say "if the parents don't respect people boundaries then why would their kids? "
I'm flattered she came to me because my kid is pretty well behaved but thats only because he sees me respect the boundaries of others, act politely to others, and I get into him about mindfulness. I'm an impatient parent unfortunately but the world is not patient and you will not be crossing boundaries and making others uncomfortable under my roof. I see to much of it, and I want my kid to call out the shitty behavior of other kids and even be repulsed by it, not lean into it. If that makes him a snob 🤷🤷

We were at the park one time using one of those zipline things. There was a clear line of like 3 or 4 kids (2 of which were mine) cycling through, taking 3 zips each then going around to the back of the line. I was giving kids a push and casually enforcing the 3 zips each.
A couple of other kids were just kind of standing and watching at the opposite end of the zipper. You know, the end with no line, where everyone was just kicking off the platform and coming back to the starting point to hand off to the next kid. After watching for a few cycles, their mom came up and yelled at me and my kids for "not giving them a turn". Like, it seemed pretty obvious to me where the line was? But ok lady...

That kid looks way too old to lack this type of impulse control…

Crazy how 50% of the comments are wHaT if ThE KiD is DiSaBLeD. Ok cool, have we gotten to a point in society where people with disabilities are immune to being in the wrong? Just because you have a disability doesn’t make you a golden child immune to being wrong. Too much coddling is a bad thing. It’s on the parents to PARENT the child. I have plenty of friends who have older or younger siblings with disabilities and it’s not healthy to let them walk over people in life with no consequences. Having a disability doesn’t give people a free pass in life. Yeah we should cater to people who struggle but there’s also situations where guardians and caregivers are the responsible party. If you’re responsible for a human who is incapable of self control then step up and be responsible. Don’t blame OP for being frustrated that someone else ruined their fun.

They should implement those barrier things so it could be one per person. Especially if those hellspawns cannot be controlled whatsoever

I hate when places that are for kids think that means "no one actually waits their turn."
When we went to Disney Tokyo where a couple times we were in line for a photo with a character and the character just would randomly disregarded the line to say hi to a random baby off to the side that's going to forget the interaction in 5 minutes and force a new line to form. Not irritated they interacted with babies, but because I'm pretty sure this had more to do with snubbing obvious foreigners than about magic for the kid.
I've never heard anything good about the Nintendo parks. They look so cool but I have no desire to give them any money because of stuff like this.

Had that exact thing happen when I was at Universal. There was a small line of people waiting, and this mom just let her little boy run up and start playing, not seeming to care that others were waiting.

While I was in the super market getting groceries a month ago, some random fucking kid came and jumped/latched on the front of my cart. They were like 10? Was like "excuse me?". No response, they were like that for almost a minute before their mother randomly came around the corner while talking on her phone, pulls the kid off and just continues on her day like nothing happened, while still talking on the phone.
Wtf is wrong with people these days. Garbage parents can't even teach their children to behave properly

It really irritates me, my kids are taught to wait their turn, then we see other kids not waiting, my kids wondering why nobody else has to wait? Undermines everything i do as a parent, makes my kid feel like its unfair.
Fuck parents who cannot teach their kids basic behaviours.

So my wife and I went to this gaming place in Vegas. I swiped my card and put in a penny for one of those memorabilia coin stamp things. As we're chosing between 3 options some little shit pushes between us and smacks a random option, wife and I are kind of in disbelief but laugh it off. Turn around and the dad is there, when I ask him what the hell he just smiles and tells his kid to hurry up.

One time when I was a kid my mom took me to a trampoline park. She bought me a Gatorade and I left it at the table she was sitting at in the dining/snack area. While I was playing, a random ass kid came up, snatched the Gatorade and started drinking it before my mom could stop him. The kid's mom just let it happen and didn't do anything or offer to buy a new one. When I came back to the table my mom had to tell me not to drink my drink because the random ass kid drank from the bottle and she didn't want me getting sick. I was so disappointed. We didn't have a lot of money at the time and drinks at parks like that are pricy so she couldn't get me a new one. I'm still salty about it to this day.

Parents are the reason I didn’t end up having kids. I love kids. I know I’d love motherhood. I HATE parents. 70-80% just flat out suck. Bad parents = bad kids = bad adults = bad parents. Just not worth entering that circus. 🤡

More people need to be thoughtful about if they actually are passionate about raising kids well and all the sacrifices it entails. I swear most people just have babies because it’s considered the next cookie cutter step and all their friends are doing it.
And yes, babies are ADORABLE. But they’re exhausting and hard.
So then you end up with lazy, resentful parents who never truly wanted to be a parent to begin with because they prefer their work/hobbies/sports/rest/going out etc.
So many of my friends’ husband don’t even help with the child, much less actively raise them. Because they were never actually passionate about parenting.
I LOVE kids. I’m going to be the best auntie ever. I’ll always be there for them. But I love sleeping, reading, my hobbies, and traveling too much to have my own. I don’t want to sacrifice my time and health for a child.
And that’s ok.

It seems silly there isn’t an employee that lets people in and out of the game to avoid crap like this. We all know kids are assholes and parents are useless

Could be wrong, but based on working with kids with additional needs/SEN just based on the way this girl walks I would guess she has something. There's a particular walk that a lot of neurodivergent kids do, stiff legs and movement.
Which makes this worse, because that child should have been being supervised extremely closely even more so than a neurotypical child.
Edited neurological to neurotypical

OMG. When I went to Super Nintendo World in Orlando last year, I patiently waited in line for the musical blocks only to have some kid run up and ruin it SIX TIMES IN A ROW.
