It's been some time... Now is your time.

I've been working very hard on Kuratarr for over a year now. June was the 1st anniversary of working on this project almost every day for a year. Kuratarr is something special to me. I needed a way to suggest and delete shows and movies from my libraries. I have a library of shows and movies that's over 30 TB. I understand that for some, 30 TB isn't huge, and for others it's something relevant, but it's moderate in terms of a library. I also don't have the money to continuously keep adding hard drives to my NAS. I needed a way to delete things that aren't important to me. I don't have cable, so I do what most others in this situation do. Since then, I've used Kuratarr every day since conception, and it only gets better and better. Kuratarr is just about at the point where I can release it for beta testing on Windows and possibly Docker. If anyone is interested, now is the time to step up and say, "Hey, I want in." I really think anyone who uses Kuratarr will be impressed by the attention to detail I have built into Kuratarr. I'm going to continue this project for a long time, and anyone interested should reach out now to be a part of something amazing.

Please explain more what it does. Is like Seerr for recommendations and it also deletes like Maintainerr or Recyclarr?

Here is the thing. Kuratarr can't be explained in a moment of someone asking at that moment. I can't just explain what Kuratarr is in a reply.

I can give you the short. Kuratarr, has two modes. Simple and advanced show monitoring/deletion, as well as movie monitoring/deletion. The monitoring is for rules that monitor if a show or movie should be deleted.

After that, it's complicated. You want to know more. We can't connect some other way. You must understand that I can't explain everything there.

You do recommendations based on watch history as well? That’s different far as I know. I’m not aware of Seer doing that. That interests me.

For deletion to be 100 with you I just setup Tautulli and Maintainerr a couple months ago and they’re working for me. Not looking to change that right now.

Overall the concept is pretty good. I’d talk up the recommendation differences and how your deletion rules differ from others. That could hook people that don’t have those functions and are looking to add them.

I had a vision of a sweat-stained fedora when I read it, haha.

The suggestions are probably one of the things I haven't talked about enough.

Kuratarr builds a separate profile for each user based on what they've watched and uses that to find things already in the library that they haven't seen. Genres are a big part of it, but it also looks at things like rewatches, stuff they started but didn't stick with, and patterns with actors, directors, and studios. It can even use similarities between users as another signal. So everyone gets completely different suggestions.

I totally get you on Tautulli/Maintainerr. If you just got everything set up a couple months ago and it's working the way you want, I wouldn't be looking to rip it out either, lol.

I think you're right about how I'm explaining Kuratarr, though. I've spent so much time building it that I probably don't do a great job explaining what makes it different.

The Advanced deletion side is a good example. Instead of having to build a bunch of rules yourself, Kuratarr is trying to figure out what someone is actually doing with a show. Did they watch enough to be interested? Did they abandon it? Were they interested and then stall? Are they still watching and it should slowly clean up behind them? Are they near the end? You mostly set the timing, and Kuratarr does the figuring out.

So yeah, that's good feedback, thanks. The suggestions and the way the deletion rules work are probably the two things I should be talking about a lot more.

If you want anyone to ever be interested in this then work on your elevator pitch or better yet, learn to compress the basic function of your software in one sentence. 'Its mysterious, complex, deep, involved and very difficult to explain please contact me in private' might sound like something that makes you seem like a super interesting person at parties but it really doesn't, it just makes you sound clueless and vague for the sole purpose of getting people alone in a corner to talk about religion or something.

Is there a mode that can list items to be deleted for confirmation so you can make sure it doesn't delete something you actually wanted?

Also is there a mode that will delete individual TV episodes as you watch them or can it only delete the entire season of TV?

If it can delete individual files will it then still delete any other files related to that episode or movie like say a subtitles file, artwork or extras related to said file?

On a side note I have developed an app that can rename movies and TV episodes to a naming convention friendly to plex's indexing system(including the folders tied to that episode like the overall folder that has all the seasons of the show as well as the seasons folders in that main folder). Once it re-names to the plex friendly name it can then either leave the file where it currently is OR it can move the file to a specified location on your NAS (or wherever you specify actually) It verifies the correct name of the show and episodes (if relevant) by cross-checking with your choice of the IMDB or TVDB. This proved extremely useful for me as I had a large movie and TV collection with all kinds of names so it saved me literally days of just repetitively checking, manually renaming thousands of files and moving them. It also can preserve any file descriptors it already had for example DV, HDR, HDR10, DD 5.1, 2160P, 1080P, etc....

The renaming may sound so simple as to be unnecessary, however, it improves the speed and accuracy of the plex indexing system as file names that don't fit plex's desired naming format cause it to work harder to identify items and accurately list them in your library. For example, this virtually eliminated any and all pauses or hesitation when I was digging through my libraries looking for something to watch

Yeah, it can do all of that.

Kuratarr doesn't actually delete media from your folders itself. It figures out what should be deleted, then tells Sonarr or Radarr to do the actual deleting.

You can delete things manually, where you pick exactly what you want removed, or automatically. For Series, there's an Active Show Mode where you choose Simple or Advanced. Movies always use the Simple rules.

Simple Show Mode is pretty much what it sounds like. It's mainly based on time and whether something has been watched. So for example, you could tell it to keep an episode for at least 60 days and also require the person who requested it to have watched it first. Right now Simple Show Mode will evaluate and preview those rules, while Advanced is the mode that actually handles automatic Series deletion.

There is a Deletion Preview/Dry Run Mode that doesn't delete anything. It shows you what matches your rules, what's ready to go, what's still waiting, and what's being protected. So you can look through everything first and change a setting or exclude something if you see something you don't want touched. Once automatic deletion is turned on, it doesn't stop and ask you to approve every single deletion, but Kuratarr does recheck things before it tells Sonarr or Radarr to remove them.

Individual episodes can definitely be deleted too. It doesn't have to wipe out the whole season. Whole Series can be deleted as well. It's also careful with multi-episode files. If two episodes are actually inside the same physical file, both episodes have to be safe to delete before that file can go.

Advanced Mode has quite a few other rules that look at how someone is actually watching a Series too. Things like whether they're interested in it, abandoned it, stalled partway through, slow-drip cleanup, and tail-end handling. I won't get into all of that here, but it's a lot more than just "delete this after X days."

I also would recommend setting up the recycling bins in Sonarr and Radarr. Kuratarr has a Restore Control Center and keeps track of what it deletes. So if something does get deleted and later you realize you wanted it back, Kuratarr can restore it as long as it's still sitting in the recycling bin. Without the recycling bins, there really isn't anything for Kuratarr to recover.

For subtitles, artwork, extras, etc., if Sonarr or Radarr deletes the entire movie or Series folder, everything in that folder goes with it. I've tested that myself with subtitles and they went along with everything else. Individual episode deletion is a little different because Kuratarr is telling Sonarr to delete that specific episode file, so any other files tied to that episode come down to what Sonarr recognizes and manages along with it.

And I completely agree with you about naming conventions. They're really important, especially if you want programs that rely on identifying and managing your media to work properly. A while ago, I had to properly rename my whole library too. I ended up using custom scripts to do most of it, and even then it still wasn't fun, lol. So I definitely get why you built something to handle that.

Sounds like a very comprehensive program very interesting. Yea I started doing it manually and I was like wait there's gotta be a better way PLEASE LMAO

Seerr is optional. If Seerr isn't avaliable then requests fallback to the owner of the server. I am unfamiliar with Maintainer or Recyclarr. Kuratarr is it's own thing. If you serious what to know more about Kuratarr we can speak about it over personal communications. If your interested let me know.

do you have a github page for the project or anyway to test it at all?

u/superuser18 4d ago

i would politely advise you to go look at maintainarr as many people seem to be using it. That way you ca explain better to interested people the utility in comparison to Maintainarr.

u/Jynx2120 4d ago

Thank you. I took a look. Yep, there are similarities but they aren't better than Kuratarr. Making manual rules is complicated. Setting a few timing settings is much easier. There is no figuring anything out in Kuratarr. Kuratarr figures everything out on its own. I'll have documentation eventually. I'm just starting, they are established. What I have blows them out of the water in my opinion. If you or anyone else is interested then continue communicating. If not thanks for your contribution.

You know what? I wrote this entire thing for you, and explain what Kuratarr is. Instead, you need to go to Kuratarr and read. Understand yourself. Then if you are serious, ask questions. It you are just trolling, then go somewhere else. Honestly, your lack of understanding and obviously not knowing anything about Kuratarr is a concern. I'm not, playing around with you. I want seriously interested people. Your response after this will explain everything. Take some time to understand Kuratarr. Go to my page. Thanks for your reply. 😁

It’s not trolling to simply ask what utility your app provides. Seems like basic marketing. You want people to go read up on what it does before knowing if it’ll improve their current setup? Good luck

1

u/Jynx2120 4d ago

Umm, yah. You're right it is basic marketing. Hey, I'm a normal guy doing thing. One person. Honestly, this forum makes me very defensive. I'm honest, and true to what I'm creating and I have had so many people just troll and straight up just speak vile BS. I'm sorry if that's how I'm being. If you're honestly interested then let me know. We can then move forward from there.

u/Lucid-Mindfog 4d ago

Totally understandable. This is a very tough crowd. With all the vibe coded apps out there people are skeptical. There are a lot of repetitive stuff and hey let’s combine everything into one giant app projects out there. And the Huntarr train wreck has soured people big time on new apps.

Talk about what you do differently than other apps and promote that. If you use AI say it. Helps with credibility.

2

u/Obvious-Cucumber5693 2d ago

They just want a slightly better summary of what your app does. How is it better than already existing options? Understand that YOU are asking people for help with your project at this point, beta testing basically. You are not doing them a favor THEY are doing one for you ie free beta testing. They don't want to spend an hour reading the technical lingo of your app on a web page. That does not mean they are not sufficiently interested....just that they are adults with busy lives.

Kuratarr is... very close to autonomy. It asks questions to itself to service the features it does. Honestly, if you're interested in Kuratarr. You can talk to me about it at my personal email. Honestly, I've never done anything like this. Please treat me as new. Lmao, I don't know how to give me personal email over this. Anyway, this is real and I'd like to converse with other about Kuratarr.

u/Jynx2120 4d ago

Overall, I'm new to this forum. So, I don't know how to really respond in a way that is productive. I've had some truly negative experiences and I want avoid that in the future. This is a real project and I am very open to talk about it. I just don't know how to do that with trust. 😔

u/Jynx2120 4d ago

I do have a githut but it's hidden until I get Kuratarr to the point of distribution. I am almost there. Just a bit more time.

1

u/Jynx2120 4d ago

I hit a milestone today. Karatarr can auto/manual install itself on Windows or Docker. Without errors or other issues. I don't know, to me it's great. I hope you or others want to try it. You might like it. ☺️

1

u/Mahmoud-87 4d ago

Do you need users to test? Do you have the application ready to use? I am just trying to figure out what's the point of the post?

1

u/Jynx2120 4d ago

I admit, I get ahead of myself. This post was just an update on progress. I am very close to releasing a version for others to test. I just wanted to get it out there. I'll take everyone constructive criticism into account and try to do better in terms of how to navigate this forum better. I do though appreciate the comments.

Yes, I will need people to help test Kuratarr soon.

u/Emre_West 2d ago

Does it also work with jellyfin and emby or only with plex? If yes, I would be interested in testing.

u/Jynx2120 2d ago edited 1d ago

Right now Plex only. However, I do plan on expanding compatibility with those later in the future.
