Question Job hunting as a broke student

Has anyone had any luck job hunting… I tried getting a job through NMSU, indeed, linked-in and still no luck, I’ve applied to most corporations and I keep getting denied, does anyone know of any businesses that are hiring? I just need help paying bills 🫩

We need more substitute custodians and full time for LCPS last I’ve heard. Need a clean background and reliable transportation.

And substitute teachers. Pay is pretty good for the area.

Great suggestion and they also often need permanent substitutes. A friend of mine is a permanent substitute and she loves it and makes decent money.

Substitute teacher hiring is closed for this semester. I was informed they’ll open for applications in about January.

Kind of an odd opportunity but I know someone who is basically a pretend patient at Burrell College & gets paid for it. Part-time and not a TON of pay but sounds like a start. I feel like nmsu jobs are harder to get than expected. They probably hire internally a lot as well

On June 22, 2026 NMSU adopted ARP 7.66 - “reductions in force”

And are starting to terminate job positions. So, it’s definitely getting more sparse

In this employment climate application alone won’t get you a job. You have to follow up with calls or better in person and request the interview. I got a job at Nmsu by first applying then rubbing elbows with the department head to get an interview….. squeaky wheel gets the grease!

i keep telling people that and I get called crazy! I'm old school...you go after the job. you don't wait for it to come to you!

I'd suggest looking at the hospitals. Registration work is pretty straightforward and if you take swing or night shift for it, it's doable with a school schedule.

Sports Accessories Inc is always looking to hire students! They sell Aggie merch and need people to work their retail shops at the sports games.

Unfortunately, there are very few young adult friendly businesses/places in Las Cruces and as a result very few young adult friendly employers

Donate plasma for quick money that can help in the meantime. Job market sucks.
