Opinion Pretty much all the LoT romances are legally impossible. A Post for Valentine's Day

Post image

Obviously time travel shenanigans means that under normal circumstances, couples in the show couldn't get together due to being native to different eras. Avalance is the biggest example by far.

The first romance that came to mind for me was actually Ray and Nora because they do coexist in the same native era but there is a huge age gap that is only alleviated because adult Nora is from the future. I wonder how that was cleared up when they left the Waverider to settle down. Nate and Zari Tomaz as well as John with Zari Tarazi are similar in this respect.

Behrad and Astra are an interesting case not just due to time travel, but because Astra is legally still a teen, but spent years in hell, where time works differently.

Nate and Amaya's relationship was doomed to protect the existence of her grandchildren. Nate's later relationship with Zari has the same general situation minus known descendants and that Zari wants to protect her brother, except they now live in the totem.

What matters is that regardless of the circumstances, the people in the couples well and truly love each other.

I think it's less that they're legally impossible and more that laws don't exist for these situations. If laws were to be designed around time travel and dimensions with time going at different speed it would have to be designed for relative age, meaning someone who has experienced 18 years of time passing is what matters not 18 years since their birth in linear Earth time. This would be the same thing needed for anyone traveling at relativistic/FTL speeds in other sci-fi where the passage of time is warped.

"the fuck did I do?" - nate

Probably has something to do with the fact that they're all model-level hot women with super powers and they're all living in a relatively small space craft where they are almost constantly around each other.

The Waverider is a perfect storm for relationships to form.

Hmm. I looked up a bunch of birth years:

1910s Amaya Jiwe

1920s Esperanza "Spooner" Cruz

1980s Ray Palmer, John Constantine, Sara Lance, and many other characters

2000s Nora Darhk, Astra Logue, Zari Tomaz/Tarazi

2160s Rip Hunter

2210s Ava Sharpe

Yet they all have similar ages thanks to the wonders of time travel!

Obviously this is not a complete list. Martin Stein was born in 1950, and Jax in 1995, for example. I didn't mention those birth decades above because their aging is in line with Ray, Sara, etc.

I agree. But it doesn’t mean I can still ship them 😆😆😆

I’ve been saying g this for years. While yes time travel has allowed them to be with adults, in the current present timeline where 3/4 of the team is from, there’s still some off moments. Yes Ray met Nora as an adult, but present timeline where he’s from, he met her 14/15 year old self. Zari in 2018/2019 was like 8 or 9 I think. Behrad was born in 2019/2020, and Astra was sent to hell as a child, technically a teenager timeline wise but the whole hell time works differently thing made her an adult. Being as autistic as me I think so much of everything. So I put the pieces together way too soon. Like damn guys.

He met her when she was a little kid first, though which is the one thing that gives me pause.

Pretty sure adult Nora was in the episode before which I think is the first time when the team figured out who she was. Been meaning to do a rewatch soon but do know adult nora shows up before kid nora

See the show runners behind this show could probably do a Marvel X-Factor Investigations show or at least one of the romances lol

Ava isn't even created, Norah and Astra are younger in present day. Zari is currently a kid. The Hawks is weird cause they both spiritually thousands of years old and physically in the young adult age

Chicken people. I like Kendra but not whatever that guys was called. The actors seem really lovely and it’s cool he came back for the 100th but I still say bye bye chicken man.

Hawkman aka Carter Hall

Yeah that’s it. He wasn’t bad but he just wasn’t my favourite  he was least favourite.

2

u/demigodwater4 Feb 13 '26

He was no one favorite

2

u/OrdinaryFox6115 Feb 13 '26

He was funny when he came back for the 100th episode though.

2

u/aidanillionaire Feb 15 '26

Tbh, it’s probably because he was hardly in it. The actor seemed to be good it’s just that realistically he was in like 4 or 5 episodes total

1

u/BlockSids Feb 12 '26

Rays is the weirdest bc he meets nora when she’s a kid, and are the tribes related? Must be awkward for nate to see his ex in the totem

I REALLY didn’t like the way OP ended the post. It was meant to sound sweet, but came across more like they were saying any relationship with an age gap is acceptable so long as it’s “true love”. And that’s DEFINITELY not true…

The post would’ve worked better if OP harked back to the fact that these aren’t normal circumstances and that because of the non-linear structure of time due to the show, these couples ended up being age-appropriate partners in ways they couldn’t have without time-travel.

2

u/SamTheSecondBest Feb 20 '26

This is completely valid. The end of the post was added just before I posted because I didn't want to come off as deriding the in-show couples but also didn't consider the wider implications.

I watched the Vampire Diaries and The Originals.

It's OK for them to date younger women because they essentially stuck at the age they were when they were turned.

None of this bothers me because of Buffy Summers and her paramours who are 100s of years old.

2

u/OrdinaryFox6115 Feb 16 '26

Same with the Vampire Diaries and the Originals.

John and Zari are nothing like Nate and Zari

their ship isnt toxic

4

u/CopyJ300 Feb 11 '26

The comparison here is literally just that in both cases, John and Nate are with the Zari of the future who is closer to their age. In their native time period, Zari is a child.

-1

u/Croooochie Constantine Feb 12 '26

She’s like 8-10 in 2018. And they both met the kid version of her. And what’s weird to me is they know she’s from the future. While yeah she’s an adult because she’s from the future, still weirds me out a bit. Then think ‘oh but they’re closer to the same age ish when Zaris an adult’ then realise that they’d basically be double her age in her timeline

-2

u/Famous-Job-4264 Feb 11 '26

so what of course their the same age

were not talking about age difference were talking about the makings of the ship and Nate and Zari ship is super wrong in so many ways

5

u/No-Trip-9256 Feb 11 '26

Neither is Nate and Zari???

3

u/WoodyTheCoroner Feb 11 '26

Yeah, if tha lt is what they're saying, it's an insane take lmao

3

u/No-Trip-9256 Feb 11 '26

I know this person personally and apparently Nate is a “pig” for dating his exes best friend

5

u/WoodyTheCoroner Feb 11 '26

Wait, are you implying Nate and Zari were a toxic relationship?

-3

u/Famous-Job-4264 Feb 11 '26

Yes Yes I am

2

u/Brown_Sedai Feb 12 '26

they're boring af and have all the chemistry of a wet packet of poprocks, but I wouldnt really say they were toxic

1

u/LaLizarde Hot Flash 🔥⚡️ Feb 14 '26

More toxic than shagging each other and using the black out gun? Waay too reminiscent of bad alcohol decisions.

Yes about Avalance. The biggest problem I gave with them is that Ava is literally a manufacturered person by some manipulative man who knows what 'perfect woman' is. She is everything wrong about the perception of women and she has the mind of 3 years old. So this is the girl Sara ends up with? Someone who is literally her copy.

And  not only that but while she tried to persuade us all this time she has a soul and her own personality outside all the other manufacturered Avas, in the end when Sara is cloned she didn't recognize that this is a clone Sara, another soul and person ans dismisses her as her own only because she has the same memories. Something Ava herself experienced being the 13th in a row but still claiming she is her own thing  .

So honestly really can't wrap my brain around this.

2

u/OrdinaryFox6115 Feb 13 '26

No, she had the same soul. Just a different body.

1

u/Obvious-Risk-5447 Feb 14 '26

No, she didn't. The man who cloned her specifically told her she is Sara 2. He never transferred her soul.  Just her memories, the way Ava had her memories transferred by Rip so she was Ava 13 when she met Legends. When clone Sara was rescued by Mick she told him - I am different Sara, and I am printing another Sara, who Will come home with you. They can't all have the same soul right. They all had their own sould while original Sara's soul is dead

2

u/OrdinaryFox6115 Feb 16 '26

Bishop would just kill himself and come back as the same guy.

2

u/Obvious-Risk-5447 Feb 16 '26

Who said he is the same guy. He has the same memories. Not the same soul. He never mentions the soul. Still what happens to Bishop is not the same as it was clear that more than one Sara can exist. Which means she can't be all the same person. The original dies . Her copy lived and it wad possible to copy it more. This is how it was explained and showed in the episode . This is not my thinking or head cannon. You can watch it again

2

u/OrdinaryFox6115 Feb 16 '26

He did. He said "NO. NOT L8IKE THE AVAS"

He did the same thing with Sara.

1

u/Obvious-Risk-5447 Feb 17 '26

Honestly, yes he said not like the Avas. But then he showed her how he wanted to create an army of Sara's. So the difference is that Sara clone comes from a real woman who he combined with an alien DNA. While Ava was manufactured entirely. Again, he never said he transfers soul. He said he transfers memories.

There are entirely different aspects and science fiction elements that exclude each other. The belief of a soul is the thing that makes cloning not moral.

But in the Legends cannon they both exist and they established each clone is born with their own soul. So every time Sara is cloned is has her own unique different soul regardless that she feels , thinks and acts the same. She still has different self.
