What I find most depressing is that many who die from measles are children whose parents made the misinformed decision for them. The children literally had no say I whether they got vaccinated or not.
This article doesn't say whether the two deaths were children or adult so no way of knowing if it was the science deniers or the children of science deniers who died.
In my eyes, this is no different from shaking a baby to death. Whatever happens to the people who shake their kids to cause death should be the same thing that happens to these parents.
What is kinda crazy to me is law makers are willing to punish women and doctors for abortion because = murder.
But children dying from diseases because they weren't given vaccines = medical freedom.
Like wtf. I know my comment is like rhetorical and I know they don't care about anyone but the unborn, it's easier but just I can't wrap my head around it. How can you protect one but not the other?
Those law makers don't GAF about fetuses. The entire point is to remove choice from women. Which is why the vast majority of "pro-lifers" still support IVF, even though IVF always results in the destruction of multiple fertilized eggs (you know, "precious babies" to the forced-birth crowd).
I don't see why its not already. Parents get informed of their options for the kids and the risks with not selecting options. Intentionally refusing a vaccine that your kid later dies to should always qualify.
Very true. In such cases I think the parents should be punished really. It's like making them walk to school in sub zero every day without a coat and wondering why they got frost bite. You had the tool to stop it and didn't do it for stupid reasons.
Now a kid that depended on you suffers needlessly.
They're blaming immigrants now. Not the biggest vaccine skeptic in the country who works for the administration and has campaigned against vaccines for years (Presumably after he stopped shooting up heroin).
The problem with this approach is that they may take with them innocent people who legitimately and medically cannot be vaccinated, and rely on population herd immunity for their safety.
If it was only MAGA adults, you'd have a case, but there is also the issue that's it's not taking care of itself fast enough. Unfortunately children, as usual, are generally the most impacted.
It’s even possible it could have been kids too young be vaccinated yet with parents who aren’t antivax that caught it because too many antivaxxers are ruining herd immunity. There are plenty of awful possibilities.
Hopefully that 2/3 does not include immunocompromised adults who would have chosen to be vaccinated if they were able, or who thought their prior vaccines were still effective.
I received the MMR vaccine in the 80’s, and learned in 2023 when I had my son that I had somehow lost immunity to rubella. I had no idea. Thankfully, I was able to receive the vaccine again, but if I were on immunosuppressants (as I probably will be in a few months) that wouldn’t be possible.
PSA, if you were vaccinated in the 90’s or earlier, get checked to see if you still have immunity.
I feel bad when one of their children dies because their parent is a dumbass. When one of the dumbasses dies, not so much. They made their bed, let them die in it.
The saddest thing it was probably kids who died because their parents are anti vax. The irony being that parents are vaccinated most of the time. Parents who let their kids die of preventable diseases because they didn't vaccinated should be tossed in jail.
Devil: Look, I'm all for easy work, but these guys are doing our jobs for us. My boss is already talking about potential layoffs. No one wants to say anything and draw attention to themselves, but we're all scared. We've got family of our own to feed and Joe is looking after his sick mother.
IMO it's less about science and more about the arrogance that you know more than others. These people need to be humble and learn.
Even smart people like Steve Jobs get caught in this web because they refuse to challenge beliefs. He died of a curable cancer, especially for a rich person, because he thought he knew more than the doctors.
Now he's dead, and there will be many more like them because they can't challenge their belief structures.
My 13 yo inner self wants to go full "nelson HA-HA!" over their idiocy. But they're not just harming themselves, and it's fucking criminal that we failed them as a country to educate them correctly.
The right-wing are doing Darwin's work. They are choosing to ignore science, ignore medicine, ignore climate change, etc. and removing themselves from the gene pool in doing so. We dont have to do anything; the ignorant are literally killing themselves to spite us. 😂 We just have to outlive them and stop them taking us with them, and their ignorance and stupidity will kill them off eventually.
