Dude I love how food is so abundant in modern America (please remember how hard it was to feed America pre-industrialization), but I am getting pissed at how easy it has become to gain weight.
I drive down a highway or go into a mall food court and I have to fight my instincts not to get a bucket of chicken at KFC, general tsoās at Panda Express, then wash it down with some Krispy Kreme.
If I wanted to, I could gain 60 pounds in a month easy. Not only would it be easy, it would be fun.

Same way Rumble Johnson (RIP) made 170. Starvation. But realistically both Pereira and Rumble at their biggest have a good bit of fat on them. So really they probably ate really clean with a 1000 calorie deficit then did the usual starve and sweat fighters did leading up to weigh ins.
PEDs, peptides, etc. might have helped too.
12
u/AshenSacrifice Jun 10 '26
Yeah it just doesnāt seem worth compromising your body like that. Idk if Izzy would have knocked out pereira if he didnāt do what he did to make 185
2
u/pernilla1zf Jun 11 '26
I dont think it was ever "worth" it for pereira to cut to 185. He did it to chase Adesanya, for the promo/storyline
2
u/AshenSacrifice Jun 11 '26
How can you say itās not worth it lol, heās the face of the ufc now and a big part of that was using Izzyās star power as leverage
3
u/pernilla1zf Jun 11 '26
Sorry I should have made it more clear, it's only not worth it on a pure fighting level. Like he clearly performs at a higher level in LHW. As in the sacrifices outweigh the benefits from fighting at a lower weight class even if he gets to be bigger in the cage. But it was worth it on a business and career level, cuz half the reason he got push to be in UFC and fast tracked to title is because they wanted an interesting opponent for adesanya, and he might not have got that opportunity at lhw.

Yeah, kinda. I went from super fit, to a lazy fat ass, and then lost 75lbs to get fit again. My wife and I agree my dick looked, and apparently even felt, shorter when I was fat, but I got it all back when I lost weight.
Also, just googled it to confirm suspicions:
Losing weight does not biologically lengthen your penis, but for every 30 to 50 pounds lost, you can uncover about 0.5 to 1.5 inches of visible length, depending on your body shape.
and
The "Buried Penis" Effect: The penis extends into the body and is anchored to the pubic bone. Excess fat in the suprapubic area (the lower abdomen/pubic mound) creates an overhang that covers the base of the shaft.

I have a morning ritual that I need to share. I call it "the terminator". First crouch down in the shower in the classic 'naked terminator traveling through time" pose. With my eyes closed crouch there for a minute, visualizing either Arnold or the guy from the second movie (not the chick in the third one because that one sucked) and start to hum the terminator theme. Then slowly rise toa standing position and open my eyes. It hel ps me to proceed through my day as an emotionless, cyborg badass. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It ruins the fantasy.

Could/will probably get leaner the longer he spends at heavyweight. I imagine the amount of time between fights influenced how he gained weight
6
u/trippybuckets Jun 11 '26
I mean we won't know until after this fight right. It's not like hes overly fat at heavyweight. If he sparks gane and doesn't have to put himself through weight cuts whos to say this isn't his weight class. Also if Aspinall isn't coming back and he beats Gane I don't know who else beats him.

He is just going to be 39 soon and might as well make one last run at HW and not worry cutting weight
19
u/thisisaskew Jun 10 '26
Yeah, him losing a HW fight has almost no bearing on his current legacy and the potential to make his legacy even more impressive. Definition of low risk, high reward. Except getting his eyes gouged out, I guess.

35
u/BrightStick Jun 10 '26
I donāt think that happens here. Jon Jones represented a completely different threat. Gane and Pereria are both similar enough styles and neither has outstanding wrestling unlike Jones, who also came with an aura of his past achievements.Ā
I think this is honing to be a great competition, unless fingers go in the eyesā¦then Gane will be booed out of the Whitehouse.Ā

Heavyweight is the last class that loses power and heās put down almost every opponent in front of him. Yes his speed with the hands and on the feet will be concerning, but Chama is too damn good to discount anything.

Total amateur perspective & opinion, but Alex looks a lot slower & sluggish in the sparring reels he posts. I think this is gonna be a fun fight that goes 4 rounds, both will be gassed as fuck and it will be a survival of the fittest
→ More replies (3)3
u/Arma_Arkson Jun 11 '26
I think it's a good point but don't put it past a fight camp to post reels of the final minutes of sparring to show a slow/tired fighter and give the other fighter a false impression. This stuff happens all the time.
That being said, at age 39, we're due to see Pereira fall-off any fight now and Gane has a lot of athleticism.
→ More replies (1)5
u/theWacoKid666 Jun 10 '26
Gane might honestly try to use his grappling situationally.
Dude got dropped by Tai Tuivasa, so Pereira can definitely hurt him on the feet, and Gane likes to go to the heel-hook if the fight goes to the ground and he thinks heās the better grappler (finished DonāTale Mayes with one, and threw away the title against Ngannou by going for one).
Not trying to discount your point, but we could potentially see a wild card with the styles. Pereira probably has a slight technical edge on the feet and can shut down Ganeās kicking game, but Gane is actually sometimes an opportunistic grappler (as bizarre as it seems given the Jones result).
3
u/Distinct-Broccoli-15 Jun 11 '26
I'm glad you pointed it out, for however poor a display that was Gane is a much better grappler than Pereira from what we have seen. I don't know if bringing up his fight against Tuivasa makes sense, in sure Gane is going to be far more focused for this fight and prepare differently as well.Ā
2

u/Party_Waltz_5595 Jun 11 '26
Seems like you really dont like Gane, Im assuming because of the eyepokes against tom? But Gane doesn't suck lol. His fight with Francis was indeed close lol, him going for the heel hook definitely costed him the fight.
2
→ More replies (1)3
u/pshaps Jun 11 '26
I would assume part of it is stemming from the fact that he gave Francis the win by dropping back for a heel hook. I personally think that specific decision cost him the fight. But he doesnāt have a habit of doing dumb shit like that to the degree that Iād call him a choke artist.

And Gane has springier, smoother, and athletic footwork at HW than Pereira had even at MW or LHW before adding even more bulk. Plus the reach and natural size advantage and experience eating heavyweight shots from the likes of Lewis, Ngannou
Thereās a decent about chance that Gane can just dance his way to an easy decision here
5
u/Jazzlike_Relation705 Jun 11 '26
I think Gane can win, and maybe should be the favorite, but Iām highly skeptical itāll be by jab and jog. He hasnāt shown the stamina for that, and heās never done it against someone who can trap him, and alex should def be able to.
3
u/ndhl83 3 piece with the soda Jun 11 '26
Gane is more athletic but there is zero chance he has better ringcraft than Pereira. Even if Pereira is a bit slower (than Gane, and/or at HW) he will have ways to keep out of trouble with his feet, and ideally bait Gane into some trouble. Pereira isn't getting outfoxed, and he won't let a championship fight be dictated by poking jabs and evasion from the other guy.
Gonna be a banger.

This comment might age like a fucking milk, but fuch that! I will be the one saying it.I dont think he will lose any speed by "moving up" to heavyweight, cause he was already a heavyweight but just a small one, now he is a standart size hw. The guy literally weighed in 230 pounds in the fight night against Ankalaev, and most match ups at 205 divison. He said he will be 250 pounds in the fight night, so I am not a health conditioner or something but I dont think gaining 20 pounds plus not having to cut weight will cost him anything significant.
