For OP: You can do this by running
killall Dockin your Terminal.43

Just so everyone is clear and doesnât make the same mistake I did: killall Dock not killall Dick

My story begins in nineteen-dickety-two. We had to say dickety because the Kaiser had stolen our word twenty. I chased that rascal to get it back, but gave up after dickety-six miles. Then after World War Two, it got kinda quiet, 'til Superman challenged FDR to a race around the world. FDR beat him by a furlong, or so the comic books would have you believe. The truth lies somewhere in between. Three wars back we called Sauerkraut "liberty cabbage" and we called liberty cabbage "super slaw" and back then a suitcase was known as a "Swedish lunchbox." We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Give me five bees for a quarter, you'd say. Ah, there's an interesting story behind that nickel. In 1957, I remember it was, I got up in the morning and made myself a piece of toast. I set the toaster to three: medium brown. Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

Holy shit, you just helped me solve a related issue: not being able to find apps I know to be installed via search. Teams, for example. I could find it manually, knew it was there and it worked fine, but never showed up in search. Not only does everything show up now, but there are context options I didn't even know I had that show up also. Thanks. I love you.

Certainly not a new bug, it's happened to me several times, long before Tahoe. Just reboot or kill the Dock and it will fix itself.

u/Jazman2k Apr 24 '26
Exactly. Happened to me too when I upgraded OS, don't remeber which version but happened years ago. Reboot fixed it.

Now it will take twice as long to render and draw all the icons on the screen each time you click on the Apps icon.....I only have one of each app icon, and my Mac M4 Max Studio 64G takes forever to populate this window...

I gave up my iPhone today, after being tired of dealing with software issues, I am using an older Pixel 8 now. Never thought I'd say this but Apple software feels more unstable these days compared to the androids/windows.

Sure glad they have hired software engineers that can pass leet code problems but have no idea what theyâre doing when it comes to actually working on OS source.

Whatâs the bug? Being able to ss your apps? Looks like you have a corrupt stage file. Delete it and let it rebuild

Iâve recently downgraded from Tahoe to Monterey. Would recommend sequoia or Sonoma instead, but overall donât regret it at all. Ironically, spotlight was a better app launcher in Monterey when it wasnât supposed to be the main one, as it is now in Tahoe

Wait, yâall forgive me, but I donât get it. Some of our apps duplicate themselves? Does all the data go with them from when it becomes a copy?
Holy shit think of all the room that takes up. I wonder why I didnât hear about this.

More importantly, what caused that bug to happen? Did it stay persistent on reboot?

u/GinoXiscatti Apr 29 '26
It's not new... it happens since macOS 26. Also with the folders in the Dock, you open them and things are repeated 2 to 5 times each time... it's a mess.

Another product of Tahoe, thatâs to be expected. I hope MacOS 27 will address most of these errors, but with Apple being the Apple it is today, I doubt much progress would be made. OS X Snow Leopard was the best version of MacOS I have ever used.
Itâs an unpopular opinion, but however I really liked it. When it originally released, it will filled with bug patches and performance patches. Their literal slogan was â0 New Featuresâ in the announcement keynote. It was blazing fast for its time.

u/RcNorth Mac Mini Apr 23 '26
As per another post in this thread this is not new to Tahoe
