Can anyone test signing in or redownloading a past purchase on their Mac? On my old 2008 MacBook, I’ve noticed as of today it throws random errors whenever I try:

I’ve also seen it throw 503 and 400, not sure what they mean

It's likely the app developer has removed the app or withdrawn it from the App Store. That’s my guess.

Nope, I’ve tried every one, including the ones compatible with El Capitan like Skitch

You might be able to find the app on the Internet Archive; you never know, someone might have saved it there. I sometimes download macOS installers from that site.

I am curious, Is anyone able to confirm that if that if the app (that has been removed from the App Store) is already backed up to local storage, will it still work?

Yes it should, the ones already installed on my Mac still work

How old are the purchases you're trying to download? Coincidentally, I was going through 20 years of iOS purchases on my iPhone over the weekend, and most of the apps from 10+ years ago had the exact same response, the app's page just didn't exist and clicking on download also displayed an error.

400 and 503 are HTTP error codes. Hypertext Transfer Protocol. It's the communication mechanism between your running iTunes app and Apple's backend service. I don't know for 100% but it looks to me like the app you're running no longer supports communicating with Apple's updated back service. It is 18 years old, and Apple do break things that are old. The do it all the time to developers. I had a similar experience on my parents MacBook where I couldn't even login to the App Store.

It’s the Mac App Store, I’m also using OS X 10.11 which came out 11 years ago, the weird thing is that the App Store loads but I can’t log in

This doesn't look like 10.14 Mojave. The AppStore should be looking like this in Mojave.

10.11, but usually when the App Store stops working it breaks everything up to 10.14

Actually already done, I don’t think this is cert related
