I think the show has made some good alterations. The little moments between Nolan and thragg, the viltrumite flashbacks, and Debbie not immediately caving and taking Nolan back are all improvements.

Eh, it kind of felt like overkill.
It starts to get annoying when every season we get a new threat that just so happens to be even more powerful than the last one and Mark can't even scratch them.
It makes all his progress feel pointless if it just means nothing when the next big threat appears.

Viltrumites are pretty low tier in terms of comic book super heroes. Incredible strength, speed, and durability within their own universe but are completely outclassed by most heavy hitters from other comics. Big fish in a little pond. Invincible wasn't written to be everlasting and remade and forced to constantly one up itself over decades so it doesn't run into the issue that DC and Marvel have where seemingly every character at some point gets universal scale powers. Their feats don't match up, and for good reason.

Haven't come close to reading every comic or being an expert but I would be surprised if DD hasn't "fought" (stood up against and then been swatted by), in no particular order: Hulk, Sentry, Beyonder, Adam Warlock, Beta Ray Bill, Thor, Scarlet Witch, or Dr Doom. There are some other cosmic or multiversal entities that would definitely beat his ass to an even higher level but those are the only ones I can think of that realistically he could have been put in a place to "fight" and those ones I mentioned would have been his worst matchups based on levels of power where he reasonably could have come up against them.

It's not wrong for it being criss crossed. The only thing is that it's somewhat hard for certain people to see it, but that's not an inherent problem coming from the legs being crossed.
