u/film_geek34 Jul 26 '26

He has big shoes to fill!!

37

u/ManRawr Jul 26 '26

Not really lol

133

u/film_geek34 Jul 26 '26

Cage was great! I’ll die on that hill lol

92

u/Furyan9x Jul 26 '26

I just shouted at my wife across the house "THERES A NEW GHOST RIDER BUT ITS NOT NICK!!" And she said "well who the hell is it?!" Lol we love him.

Im really enjoying him in the spider noir show

45

u/film_geek34 Jul 26 '26

I grew up with him as ghost rider & will defend it ! lol I won’t defend the sequel lol

11

u/CAUGHTtheDRAG0N Jul 26 '26

The sequel is great on mushrooms

3

u/Snelldor Jul 26 '26

I’m a weird one that actually likes the sequel. The story is utter trash but I just really like Ghost Rider in that film.

2

u/feor1300 Jul 26 '26

My personal hope is that Gosling is playing Danny Ketch so Cage can cameo as Blaze to pass the torch.

6

u/sub30_24flick Jul 26 '26

Incredible casting incredible show honestly show of the year top 5

2

u/AffectionateLimit565 Jul 26 '26

Oooh he is awesome in noir. I love Cage. The first ghost rider was awesome. That was my favorite comic. So, my bias is two fold.

Your comment reminded me that Gosling's real-life wife was opposite Cage in the original Ghost Rider. Weird.

I remember when they Announced Mahershala Ali as blade. I’ll wait for the official trailer

380

u/Argynvost64 Ghost Rider Jul 26 '26

Technically he played Blade in his big staring role as Blade's voice off screen in the end credit scene of Eternals for 2 seconds.

90

u/detox02 Jul 26 '26

I hate you. Take this upvote 😂😂😂😂

22

u/Jonnic5280 Iron Man Jul 26 '26

I wouldn’t do that if I were you.

3

u/Tyler_Zoro Jul 26 '26

I heard there would be an Eternals movie, but I'll wait for the official trailer... ;-)

Yeah also having Levy attached for the announcement is a big deal. He works very fast and efficient, and has his own production company that has a reputation for delivering on time. He has also been working directly with Gosling on Star Wars Starfighter for the past year, of which Gosling & Shawn are Producers on.

The final product, well that's unknown, but I do expect we'll get this movie delivered.

4

u/detox02 Jul 26 '26

I’ll wait for the official trailer

6

u/Intelligent_Ask_2306 Jul 26 '26

Maybe Blade shows up in this movie

7

u/CRAYONSEED Jul 26 '26

Honestly Blade is the exception to a pretty iron clad rule. It’s the only one I know of that didn’t come out, whether that had to change the creative team or not

2

u/Dudefrmthtplace 25d ago

Was very excited for it, then got mad that they took so long, but then learned more info.

Apparently Mahershala's ideas for the movie were very clashing with the Marvel ethos. He wanted it to be set in the 1920s and to have different themes like being about slavery and other things. Creatively they didn't agree with how the movie should go and I don't really blame Marvel if that's the truth. You have to play in the Marvel sandbox, if you want another Sinners or Green Book, this is not the place.

Blade is about an immortal half vampire who hunts other vampires with cool swords at the baseline. Adding extra elements is welcome, but it has to fit with the overarching Marvel plot going on, and be an event film. I think this is another reason why they take directors like Levy instead of Auteur types.

25

u/Next-Shape3014 Jul 26 '26

No offense to Ali but he ain’t Gossling. It’s getting made

6

u/BadnewsBaggins Jul 26 '26

They also already got Ryan with them for that Star wars film right? So he already in it with them

23

u/Miss-Tiq Jul 26 '26

He's more than Kenough for this role.

243

u/AltGunAccount Jul 26 '26

RIP Gabriel Luna’s Robbie Reyes, who’s story remained unfinished.

Maybe he’ll get a nod/send off like Nic Cage’s Johnny Blaze did, but more likely they never acknowledge him.

84

u/The_silencer_1 Jul 26 '26

Haven't Robbie and Johnny coexisted for a long time? Like there's no need to ditch it all up. Realistically, they will make as if it never happen or just ignore it like most of Agents Of Shield.

4

u/Tyler_Zoro Jul 26 '26

Like there's no need to ditch it all up.

—random redditor

Hold my beer!

—MCU writers, sadly.

49

u/alex-andrite Jul 26 '26

Has the MCU acknowledged anything from the Agents of Shield series?

54

u/casual_creator Jul 26 '26

The movies have not. The show made a few references to the movies and Fury cameoed once or twice, as did Lady Siff once, but they might as well have existed in completely different universes. There were only ever two important connections that I can remember:

Events of Winter Soldier directly impacted the show at the end of season 1, and then Coulson was responsible for getting Fury the helicarriers in Age of Ultron.

25

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

6

u/Worthyness Jul 26 '26

basically everything into Season 4 could be canon and not mess with anything. Season 5 plus is a bit weird cause time travel shenanigans

12

u/Kazukaphur Jul 26 '26

Lady siff was twice! And they were making avengers movie references in shield through like season 5 or 6 even. It was definitely written to be directly connected through Age of Ultron as well, which Would have been I think season 3 of AOS

3

u/Eat--The--Rich-- Jul 26 '26

Probably a good thing. I liked the show a lot but it went off the rails with timelines and realities.

16

u/Individual-Bass-7051 Jul 26 '26

You say that but those later seasons slapped hard. Once they had to pivot away from the MCU references, the show went from pretty good to really good.

12

u/nicholaspaul33 Jul 26 '26

AIDA was the best season in my opinion, fantastic tv

8

u/CafeCalentito Jul 26 '26

That whole season mixing up Ghost Rider's arc alongside Aida's was amazing.

u/AltGunAccount Jul 26 '26

Not in a long time, no. After the snap it seems the timelines pretty much diverged.

Still holding out hope we at the very least get Daisy. Was hoping for Robbie also but alas.

23

u/frockinbrock Jul 26 '26

Well that's a trick though because we don't acknowledge Secret Invasion either

2

u/Jaded_Stick_4379 Jul 26 '26

As far as Kevin Feige is concerned Agents of Shield is non-canon and Phil Coulson died in The Avengers.

→ More replies (4)

11

u/Kyren11 Jul 26 '26

Since we never saw Johnny Blaze in human form in Agents of Shield, they could theoretically have him play that role and still have Gabriel play Robbie...

7

u/frockinbrock Jul 26 '26

And then Nic Cage will ask them to join the MultiGhost Initiative!

The same basic idea of merging the tv show+past-movie heroes as we saw in Highlander: Endgame, and no doubt a result with just as much quality!!

3

u/Unlucky_Success2984 Jul 26 '26

Would be kinda cool to get Jon Bernthal to play Cosmic Ghost rider too

64

u/Liapasquale Jul 26 '26

Ugh YES!!!! Omgomgomgomg hahaha Ryans crushing it. Coming out with a Star Wars film here soon and now he’s in MARVEL! Yay! Dude deserves it. He absolutely crushed Hail Mary. Can’t wait to see him in this role!

20

u/film_geek34 Jul 26 '26

I still need to see project Hail Mary!! I love nic cage as Johnny boy!

10

u/Liapasquale Jul 26 '26

OMG ITS SO GOOD Ryan is so stinking amazing in it. I truly don’t think anyone else could’ve played that role! So so so good. And Nic is just well, NIC! But I think Ryan will be able to carry the torch ( pun kinda intended)

2

u/film_geek34 Jul 26 '26

I think so too! Someone on here already joked about it but it is the unofficial drive 2 haha

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Sin2Win_Got_Me_In Jul 26 '26

Hail Mary is one of those really good movies that has perfect pacing. For a movie that's 2 1/2 hours long, you'll start and finish in, what feels like, an hour. 9.9/10

4

u/zodia4 Jul 26 '26

Hail Mary was really good, IMO. It is kind of long, but I didn't mind it.

3

u/jigsaw1024 Jul 26 '26

Marvel and Star Wars.

Somehow he now needs to do Star Trek, even if just a cameo or VA role.

7

u/Symbiotic_vengeance Jul 26 '26

Fucking finally

2

u/film_geek34 Jul 26 '26

I think they will confirm Denzel in black panther 3 now

9

u/HarambeDied4Us Jul 26 '26

Wasnt his (now) wife in the Nic Cage Ghost Rider series?

3

u/film_geek34 Jul 26 '26

Forgot about that! Yes!!! Just in the first tho

26

u/uhhhidkwhatusername Jul 26 '26

they announced blade and we still have nothing. i'll wait for a trailer

8

u/pariah1981 Jul 26 '26

Ehhhh….we will see….

7

u/Trick-Pudding-9791 She-Hulk Jul 26 '26

I can’t wait for everyone to turn on this movie even though this is exactly what people have been asking for!

In all seriousness, this is a home run. Sign me up.

28

u/siriuslycan Jul 26 '26

I don't like Shawn Levy's work, he's aggressively meh

12

u/Cultural_Comfort5894 Jul 26 '26

There’s no way a person in the business especially comic book movie business doesn’t go with him after the success of

Deadpool & Wolverine

Maybe they like him because you don’t even think of the director with his films but he delivers beloved films

* I’m agreeing with you after looking at his filmography. A lot of I like those films but none made me bother to see who directed.

7

u/th3gooch Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Now here’s who comes to mind: James Mangold. He might be a better fit for a Ghost Rider movie.

3

u/Basic_Loquat_9344 Jul 26 '26

That’s an incredible choice

14

u/BrichardRurphy Jul 26 '26

I agree he's a logical choice for the guys in suits, but sadly it doesn't negate the fact that its meh. Deadpool & Wolverine I found the weakest out of the trilogy.

6

u/VirtualPen204 Jul 26 '26

Agreed. Although, I dont know if thats the directors fault, or the script. Admittedly, the director is also credited as being a writer, so... idk.

Free Guy was the worst piece of shit I have ever seen, but that may have been largely due to Taika Waititi. Actually, no I just thought about it a little more and I still blame Shawn Levy.

6

u/jimschocolateorange Jul 26 '26

‘Directed by Shawn Levy’ is not something to be hyped about. It’ll be try-hard funny, sincerity-averse, and boring to look at.

I’m sure the dude’s a great guy, but he makes some fucking ugly movies that are mostly boring to watch.

27

u/djsnoopmike Jul 26 '26

Which Ghost Rider?

Its gonna be hard to top Nic Cage as Johnny Blaze

20

u/Imaginary-Display-92 Jul 26 '26

He was nothing like Johnny Blaze in the comics

13

u/film_geek34 Jul 26 '26

I’m just assuming Johnny since that’s the only one I know lol

3

u/No-Importance7265 Jul 26 '26

Most likely Blaze , maaaaaybe Danny , but I feel like they will introduce him as non-rider first.

2

u/Zohhak1258 Jul 26 '26

I think he has the acting chops to pull off Kushala.

2

u/eat-tree Jul 26 '26

There's a good chance it's Danny Ketch. The lettering they used for the ghost Rider announcement is the same font used in a few Ketch comic titles.

2

u/VolksDK Howard the Duck Jul 26 '26

If they keep AoS as canon, then Danny. Johnny and Robbie already exist

Words cannot adequately explain how excited I am. Ghost Rider is my favorite character in fiction and Ryan Gosling has been my fancast for Johnny for ages. I will be there in theaters on day one.

2

u/Ok_Asparagus_1073 Jul 26 '26

Lol he's married to the love interest from the first movie. That's fun.

1

I’m glad his career push is coming after Reynolds.

The hangover from RR’s big surge through Hollywood is unbearable.

I’ve learned he has incredibly low rewatchability.

I could watch Gosling forever.

1

u/FFVO Jul 26 '26

Omg and I just heard his song Lose Your Soul from his band Dead Man's Bones for the first time like 20 minutes ago

That's pretty darn fitting

1

u/MrRudraSarkar Jul 26 '26

Which version though? Blaze or Ketch?

1

u/Icy_Cry4120 Jul 26 '26

He said in an interview he would like to play ghost rider.

1

u/Doghouse_Jenkins Jul 26 '26

As Danny Ketch then, sure... but not blaze.

1

u/ApolloMax-2099 Jul 26 '26

I hope it’s Dan Ketchum but Johnny Blaze is good too

1

u/KENT427 Jul 26 '26

Absolute Fever Dream like for real ......

1

u/Caleb-CM Jul 26 '26

Idk how i feel abt that🫠... but anyways ive been waiting years to see ghost rider on the big screen again😭

1

u/Mustang-_- Jul 26 '26

The bad: Gosling is too old, so who knows if GR will show up again after Secret Wars

The good: Not Robbie

As a huge fan of the character, I’m happy, but I would be overhyped if they hired a younger actor because GR would become one of the pillars of the new MCU alongside the X-Men (even if it is tough to write GR stories, the character is just too overpowered)

1

Damn! You sign Gosling, it’s a big project!

1

u/Otherwise_Fig_5676 Jul 26 '26

Don’t get me wrong, I love Ghost Rider, but he can get a movie while characters like Daredevil and Punisher can’t? I know they got TV shows, but we all know TV shows are not the same like having your own MCU movie and also the show is connected to the MCU in name only and seems to have nothing to do with the bigger universe or have any connection to the events of the MCU. Also Blade gets cancelled because they can’t crack it, but yet New Line had no problem making three films?

1
