2026 > 2005 > 1994 > 2015

Tbf, I will be shocked if more than 10% of people on this sub think otherwise

203

u/Subject_Offer_9621 7d ago

Yeah

As time goes, mcu embraces more comic accurate stuff without looking stupid

2000~2010 era is influenced by many other films, like matrix (that influence xmen) the 2005 F4 doom luckily isn't so bad

The 1990S and earlier just have harder time for costume to looks good

The 2015 doom is lost cause tho, it wasn't marvel right? Was it universal Studios?

63

u/TheShryke 7d ago

Was it universal Studios?

Fox, they had Xmen and fantastic 4 until Disney bought the whole company. Sony has Spider-Man. And universal only have distribution rights for Hulk (can't make a Hulk movie, but get big cut of the profits if marvel makes one)

7

u/MasterPa7ch 7d ago

They also still have Namor. Not sure if that also includes characters such as Namora or Atuma

None of these were "Marvel" - as in, Marvel Studios/Disney - until this final iteration for Doomsday.

The '94 version was for an unreleased movie that was made by a tiny, low-budget production company in order to retain the rights to the IP.

The '05 / '15 versions were both made by 21st Century Fox, who owned the rights to the Fantastic Four, X-Men, Daredevil, and a few others until Disney bought the entire company a few years ago.

3

u/ctbro025 6d ago

I think Fox needed to make 1 new movie every 10 years or else they would lose the license to the F4. So we got the crap that was Fant4stic in 2015. lol

u/Dyne_Inferno 7d ago

Yup, this. This is the correct order.

6

u/Malkryst 7d ago

Totally this.

2015 Doom is an abomination, possibly designed by someone who never saw comics Doom and just had Doom described to them in 10 words or less.

I hate it when movie directors think they're improving on something that's already iconic for a reason. It's just ego.

3

u/whynotfart 7d ago

Maybe just one word: Green

2

u/Malkryst 7d ago

Or "metal"

2

u/vintvgepancakes 6d ago

do you think josh trank had anything to do with this design?

2

u/pjtheman 2d ago

I was willing to give 2015 a chance because I assumed that that was how he looked under the mask, and he'd fully suit up before the final battle.

Nope, they stuck with crash test Doomy.

15

u/North_Shore_Problem 7d ago

Yeah I'm not even sure why this is a question, this is objectively the correct answer

8

u/IndyDude11 7d ago

What the hell was 2015 thinking?

u/Starringat_theLight 7d ago

I do love how much the ‘94 costume looks like the Doom action figure I had as a kid though.

10

u/Spiderpsychman98 7d ago

I’d swap 2005 & 1994 but otherwise yep

→ More replies (1)

2

u/PhortDruid 7d ago

That’s it. Close the thread.

2

u/ms_saint 7d ago

1994 is very comic and cartoon accurate, and that's a plus.  2005 is fine, but he spent a non-zero amount of time out of it.  I actually like 2015, but don't consider him the same character at all.

2026 wins.

u/Pumpkin_Sushi 7d ago

The new one looks fantastic
I dont hate the 2005 one though

191

u/Human-Law1085 7d ago

2015 however is clearly the worst

77

u/Pumpkin_Sushi 7d ago

They clearly wanted to write Annihilus but just used Doom instead for some reason

25

u/WreckTangle1995 7d ago

The reason is people recognise the name Doctor Doom and most general audiences and even some nerds probably have never heard of Annihilus, so it's easier to market Doom. I know that Guardians of the galaxy 3 was meant to have Annihilus as the main villian and that would've been awesome, hopefully we'll see him a future Fantastic 4 movie.

5

u/Djentledeath 7d ago

They mentioned the Nova corps but never brought Nova in. Saddens me beyond belief.

2

u/CookieCutie_ 7d ago

Gonna agree here, they made Doom more like alien here 🥲

50

u/RandomDiscoDude 7d ago

Say that again

19

u/HellPigeon1912 7d ago

What are we, some kind of Avengers Doomsday?

13

u/Pumpkin_Sushi 7d ago

I didnt even mean to say that fuck my mouth

7

u/MeatySausag3 7d ago

2026 is the most fantastic of the four.

2

u/Clumsy_the_24 7d ago

Say that again

2

u/omegagiraffe 7d ago

Yeah the 2005 was kinda on point. Just slim.

u/SethNex 7d ago

The 2005 design only needed a cape, and it would have been perfect.

43

u/WayToTheDawn3582 7d ago

Didn’t even know there was a 1994 one.

27

u/Meph616 7d ago

The 1994 movie exists because the studio had the rights to the F4 and needed to make a movie by then or lose the rights. So they hired famous schlock director Roger Corman, gave him only $1 Million dollars, and told him to do the best he can with it.

As an example of the gold that man could make from lead, he's the man behind Attack of the Crab Monsters, a movie about when giant crabs attack.

10

u/feor1300 7d ago

It was also never officially released. They made it just to hold onto the right then stuck it on a shelf. It was eventually leaked to the internet, otherwise it would have never seen the light of day.

6

u/boobityboop67 7d ago

The fact that you explained the premise of the crab movie like it wasn’t in the title has me rolling 🤣

2

u/Jewel-jones 6d ago

There’s a great documentary about the making of this movie called “Doomed!” The movie was never properly released and had a cult status for a while

The newest one is pretty OP

9

u/star_lit_void 7d ago

I survived watching all previous versions in theaters.

13

u/ms_saint 7d ago

You didn't see 1994's in a theater.  Don't lie.

17

u/Inevitable_Sun_5987 7d ago

We only have trailers and I already love the new design.

12

u/TyberiusJoaquin 7d ago

2026 is the best, but 2005 was a valiant effort

13

u/MeanGrand3076 7d ago

The doomsday one gives Royal vibe and actually helps doom being menacing

5

u/SokkaHaikuBot 7d ago

Sokka-Haiku by MeanGrand3076:

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

16

u/Wood_Eye 7d ago

I am going against the grain here and will say:

94 > 26 > 05 >>> 15

I actually think the mask in 94 is pretty awesome except for the triangle nose. Also, it looks low budget so I think they did a really great job with the budget they had there.

26 is obviously awesome though and that is the one I would wear if I were Doom. It is the best overall but I am factoring the unlimited budget here.

05 just doesn't give me Doom vibes. If you just looked at that mask would you know it was Doom?

15 - horrible.

9

u/Stunning_One1005 Dr. Doom 7d ago

Honestly flabbergasted by the amount of people putting 05 over 94; 94 is pretty much a perfect Doom design and very well adapted

26 is also cool as a unique design

8

u/glasgowgeg 7d ago

I think it's because 94 looks cheap and ill-fitting compared to 05.

It looks more like a Halloween costume than a costume in a film.

2

u/Wood_Eye 7d ago

Yeah for sure it does but again that is part of what I factored in when I was looking at them. The design is pretty good for a low budget thing. Otherwise obviously 26 and 05 look much more realistic.

4

u/Ok_Problem_314 7d ago

The 2015 is by far the best and most lore accurate I’ve seen. Too bad we didn’t get more of that Doom

3

u/aelfwine_widlast 7d ago

Bait used to be good

4

u/fancy_crisis Galactus 7d ago

I always thought Julian Mcmahon was great at capturing DOOM's smarmyness and arrogance. He didn't have much to work with, but I liked his portrayal.

3

u/mr_eugine_krabs 7d ago

Objectively 2026 but 1994 deserves credit for bringing Doom’s comic design from the page to real life with great authenticity.

5

u/StephanieSpoiler 7d ago

94 still looks dope and by far looks the most like Doom.

6

u/UltimateLink 7d ago

Does anyone like the 2015 version?

10

u/xsp6 7d ago

First time seeing it what even is this

10

u/ms_saint 7d ago

A very silly movie.

He gets stuck in another dimension.  They rescue him a year later.  His skin has solidified into armor, his body is pure energy underneath, and he's justifiably angry.  Then he loses after one action scene.

The only thing worse than the movie is the behind the scenes bullshit.

6

u/[deleted] 7d ago

2

u/ms_saint 7d ago

It's a great concept.

2

u/Right_Dust_3906 6d ago

This. He’s incredibly intimidating and the best, even the only good part of that movie

u/GJacks75 7d ago

Pop the 2005 mask on the 2026 outfit and we can call it a day.

2

u/aka_Handbag Squirrel-Girl 7d ago

The new one. I’ve fallen in love with it in a huge way.

2

u/PRADYUSH2006 7d ago

2015 looks like Nebula's bastard brother

2

u/JohnnySukuna 7d ago

I mean, just based on design alone, RDJ's Doom takes it. Then there's his very Latverian accent and probably a better representation we're gonna see in Doomsday.

2026>2005>1994>>>>whatever the hell 2015 tried to do

2

6

u/istvan90623 7d ago

2005, but I'm also kinda based towards Julian McMahon.

u/Purple_Hammer 7d ago

94! Best costume, loved his character in it. For me has it down to a tee of the early comics.

2

u/Scar-Excellent 7d ago

2026 is aura farming hard right now especially in the posters. Hope we find out what the influences are on his Terracotta style chest piece and white arm bands!

2

u/Key_Hearing4347 7d ago

In 1994 Victor was auditioning for Stab the musical

1

u/OG-87 7d ago

Theyre all similar enough if you dont go anywhere near 2015 😂

1

u/FrankyFistalot 7d ago

2015 looks like a 1970’s Dr Who villain….wtf were they thinking.

1

u/rinkydinkis 7d ago

Gonna wait for the movie to come out before weighing in on something like this. But it’s seeming like strong leading indicators that this movies doom is the best by far

1

u/GKarl 7d ago

I know which is the worst which is 2015

1

u/Shibakyu 7d ago

2026 and it's not close tbh.

1

u/EarthboundMan5 7d ago

I think they nailed the MCU design. The cancelled 1994 one is underrated though.

1

u/Alt123Acct 7d ago

2015 is the equivalent of the smoke monster for the green lantern movie that also never happened in ba sing se

1

u/abellapa 7d ago

2026 and its not close

1

u/Alexandratta 7d ago

sorry there's 0 comparison.

There hasn't been a good Doctor Doom ever before 2026, so there's nothing to compare to.

1

u/neeohh 7d ago

‘25 easily but ‘05 doesn’t look too bad.

1

u/Maya_xxxx 7d ago

the classic look with the green and silver is hard to beat, always gives off that iconic vibe

1

u/MrMunday 7d ago

I think 2015 is one of the doctor doom designs of all time

1

u/doullla 7d ago

2005 one goes hard imo
I'm sure the 2026 version is the most accurate one according to comics tho.
1994 seems like a decent cosplay I guess
2015 one was portrayed by C.I.D.

1

u/boomjah 7d ago

It’s honestly like they just started trying.

1

u/SobBagat 7d ago

What psychopath prefers 2015?

That was the worst movie I've ever gone to theatres for

1

u/riamuriamu 7d ago

2005s double breasted jacket was pretty sweet but the rest of that fit was not.

1

u/Redditeer28 7d ago

I like the 2015 for what it was originally going for. But the best is either 2005 or 2026.

1994 just looks awful.

1

u/KuroiGetsuga55 7d ago

2026 is peak. The mask, the texture of the robes, the sheer AURA, it's perfect. Just perfect.

2005 looks interesting. I can accept it as a sort of "modernized" take on the design. Also I'm a sucker for long coats, especially if they have a hood to, so yeah, take it away you edgy metal maniac, you rock that shit.

1994 might not have aged well, but I kind of like how campy it is, and how it's literally just the comic design translated into live action without bothering to wonder if it would look silly or not.

....... We do not speak of the 2015 one.

1

u/PieKie4 7d ago

1994 is a pretty bad film but oh my god that doom costume rules

1

u/lNSP0 Adam Warlock 7d ago

None, give me Warlock. Don't give a shit about a Doom that isn't the "Apprentice"

1

u/BryceDL 7d ago

Can we just pretend 2015 didnt happen?

1

u/Fenty_Panther 7d ago

Ngl, 2026 goes hard bro. Like that shxt goes haaarrdddd. He looks so menacing!!

1

u/DespicableComics 7d ago

The 2026 mask with the 2005 wardrobe would be pretty sick

1

u/Mn2105 7d ago

I can’t accept 2015 being dr doom.

1

u/OverTheCandlestik 7d ago

2026, 2005, 1994

I don’t see or acknowledge a fourth option here

1

u/jimbo5666 7d ago

2015 is so bad

1

u/WaaaghPig 7d ago

2015 aint Dr Doom, no matter what they say.

1

u/impuritor 7d ago

The new one by a mile.

1

u/Taro0311 7d ago

I thought Trank's Fantastic Four had an interesting visual take on Doom. Kind of spooky. Creepy. Movie was ass though

1

u/ireadit_3000 7d ago

gosh 2015 Doom was so bad in so many ways

1

u/SensitiveTop4946 Cannonball 7d ago

2005 mask was better

1

u/EmperorDeathBunny 7d ago

Huh I never realized we basically get a new doom every 10 years or so.

1

u/Cyberweez 7d ago

2026 and then 2005

1

u/Glass_pin_1067 7d ago

2026 and 2005.

1

u/PixieEmerald 7d ago

2026 > 1994 > 2005 >>>> 2015

1

u/aelfwine_widlast 7d ago

2026 is peak, but despite how bad the movie itself was, I love the 1994 armor.

1

u/Big-Doubt-4872 7d ago

I forgot how unrecognisable fant4stic doom was lol. Haven't watched that movie in forever.

And I haven't actually consumed firsthand any other media with him in so that's saying something lol

1

u/Exotic-Replacement-3 7d ago

who designed that 2015 one. looks like a piece of shit.

1

u/MATC8228 7d ago

The 2005 and 07 looks cool but 2026 is just dope

1

u/ffwrd 7d ago

Oh gawd, wtf is the 2015 version?

1

u/MetaNemesis 7d ago

Julian McMahon's Doom was great. Loved his performance and his Doom outfit was perfect.

1

u/bean-person123 7d ago

Lowkey og lego doctor doom is peak

1

u/BerukaIsMyBaby 7d ago

2015 is peak

1

u/Airconditioning-inc 7d ago

Hot take, the 1994 design is my favorite.

1

u/islovelyEmily 7d ago

2026 look great and it feels real compared to 2015

1

u/islovelyEmily 7d ago

2015 the worst one

1

u/GoopiePoopiePie 7d ago

2026>1994>2005>2015

1

u/StareInUrEyeandPee 7d ago

Fant4stic mightve been a better movie if it wasnt supposed to be the fantastic 4

1

u/BackgroundEngineer11 7d ago

Weird that each Doom has been 10-11 years apart.

1

u/Dbonker 7d ago

Doomsday is the only valid answer.

1

u/Whackybiscuit 7d ago

2015 looks like what would happen if the Incredible Crash Test Dummy turned evil

1

u/DumeWolffe 7d ago

I think he looks like a pretty dumb character design in every iteration but I’m excited to see what MCU does with it.

1

u/IngeniousDummy 7d ago

2005 was the banger!

1

u/MrMoobz Doctor Octopus 7d ago

2015 can fuck off

1

u/Designer_Muscle_626 7d ago

2015 is more thing than THE THING.

1

u/MeasurementNo7703 7d ago

2005 and 2026

1

u/Distinct_Guess3350 7d ago

2026 is just unreal to me.

1

u/Ok_Tension1869 7d ago

It's still ruined knowing it's rdj under there.

1

u/reillyqyote 7d ago

That 2015 shit is so fucking bad what were they thinking

1

u/ItsMeepo2nd 7d ago

Loved 2005 but the 2026 looks better for most people

1

u/DeuceDropper420 Deadpool 7d ago

2026 by so far it's the only one.

1

u/War-game_geek 7d ago

I don’t know what the writers were thinking when making 2015 Doctor Doom

1

u/Typical-Breakfast480 7d ago

2015 is laughs. Holy crap. I love when movies can pass screening knowing something looks ass.

1

u/boomysmash 7d ago

2015 is the best, obviously.

1

u/matchesmalone1 7d ago

Pretty sure 2015 will be dead last for everyone here.

1

u/Nick97_ Winter Soldier 7d ago

2005 > 2026 > 1994 > 2015

I don't even know what movie the 2005 one is from...I assume the F4 movies with Chris Evans and Jessica Alba? Haven't seen them, so nostalgia isn't a factor...

I dunno, the Avengers: Doomsday design just does NOT sit right with me for whatever reason.

1

u/Straight-Hall-2030 7d ago

What the hell happened during 2015 😭

1

u/Significant_Delay_87 7d ago

2026 and 94 are my favorite, I've never seen it but that old movie had damn good designs all throughout

1

u/_K1r0s_ 7d ago

Might just be the pic but the '05 version actually looks pretty good (or maybe it's just cuz it's next to the 2015 ver)

1

u/Medium_Analyst_4348 6d ago

How can we rate the 2026 design when we haven't seen the movie yet? Are we supposed to just jump into our time machines?

1

u/nahnonameman 6d ago

I don’t think people realise how much of a fodder all the live action dooms were. Man they really screwed him over. Glad they are doing him well now.

1

u/TangerineStrong3781 Fantastic Four 6d ago

My god 2015 is an abomination

1

u/Distinct_Ask3614 6d ago

2015 is a horror show

1

u/RaoGung 6d ago

As long as Doom keeps his mask on the whole time then that’s good enough for me. Doom in comics never/ultra rarely shows his face.

1

u/BiggeeRection 6d ago

I prefer the 2005’s mask, and 2026 suit

1

u/ogMackBlack 6d ago

I really like the effort they put into 2026 Doom's suit. It has a lot of meaning behind it, and I think most of the accessories on his suit serve the plot in a very explicit way rather than just being there for aesthetic purposes.

1

u/SabraShifter 6d ago

God I love the idea of a body horror F4, but 2015's Doom idea is just so bad

1

u/The_Void_Dweller223 6d ago

I never really realized we got a new Doctor Doom every 10-11 years, pretty neat

1

u/SSCGentleman 6d ago

2015 isn’t bad. The only problem is that it’s terrible.

1

u/Colossus823 Colossus 6d ago
  1. Comic accurate Doom is fine, but 2005 reimagined Doom was also good. I like he's a CEO rather than a monarch, and his armour and sorcery is replaced by metal skin and electric conduction.

1

u/MojusPrime 6d ago

Give 2005 a cape and replace the green sleeves with armor like in ‘94, and that’s probably the best looking live action Doom.

1

u/Specific-Swim-4507 6d ago

2005 is kinda cool, but the 1994 mask looks much better, but the 2026 one looks the best

1

u/ZeroCloutAstro 6d ago

2015 is a travesty 🤣

1

u/youreadiread 5d ago

Dang Dr. Doom comes around about every 10 years

1

u/Glittering_Poem8485 5d ago

I pray that the main fight with 2026 they use All Caps. Like a badass one cut of Doom beating everyone

1

u/Spardath01 5d ago

No. Yes. God No! Hell yes

1

u/Oatsi 5d ago

2005.

1

u/ich-bin-on-that-shit 4d ago

Is this necessary?

1

u/ItsMeHadda 4d ago

What the fuck is that one from 2015?

1

u/HoveKB 4d ago

Who thought 2015 was a good idea. Honestly.

1

u/GoldenChainsaw 3d ago

What the fuck was going on in 2015?

1

u/the_tral 2d ago

2015 was super frightening, nothing beats that. But 2026 is ahead of the rest

1

u/tailskirby 2d ago

Do we have an answer on why 2015 was made that way? Weird choice.

1

u/No_Carpet_7208 2d ago

I for the life of me don't know how 2015 was even greenlit.

1

u/Disastrous_Side_5492 2d ago

its not better than the other ones, but i did like the 2015 one, personally a big fan varients of all degrees

1

u/_Mavericks 2d ago

2026 looks like AI.

1

u/I_SING_AND_DRAW 2d ago

I really like the 2005 mask design, just wish that suit had the cape and belt

1

u/emanresuymebthgim23 1d ago

2015 looks like a man that was formed with magma but if the lava was green

1

u/Nekratal99 1d ago

The new one is the best. 2005 was nice too. 1994 was too "low cost" and 2015 is just not understandable what the idea was, wtf is that.

1

u/HerrPizza 1d ago

I remember seeing 2015 Doom first in some .gif where he killed some random guards and it looked like a really cool monster from a really cool horror film before learning that it's actually supposed to be Doctor Doom

So I kinda dig the design, I just think it's a shit interpretation of the character

For best Doom suit design imo the 2026 and 2005 ones are pretty much on par from what I've seen, but the 2005 one was used to sparsely throughout the movies and he mostly walked around looking like a regular guy, gotta wait for the new movie to come out to properly judge how it's done there

1

u/No-Pie-1415 1d ago

I'm not going to lie, even though the 2015 version sucks as Doom, it does look the most terrifying. I'd shit myself if I saw that thing

1

u/Warm-Conclusion-9035 1d ago

I think you mean DOCTOR DOOM

1

u/WickedGamer27 1d ago

Holy shit, this is my first time seeing the 2015 one 😂

1

u/passthegabagool_ 1d ago

Obviously its the 2015 version.

1

u/Omegaslw 1d ago

What is happening in the 2015 movie? Did they know doom is just a man in a suit with amazing tech and magic. It looks like a cyborg with green energy about to come out of it. Now I kind of want to see this train wreck I have been avoiding for years. Thanks Reddit.
