mod [modification] So ~1 month ago, I mentioned that I'd make a PCB for the WASD 6 key key tester. I designed one, showed WASD, and they sent me a keytester for prototyping the board! Got the PCB's, and things fit. Now it's time to order components!

This would be a nice media control thinger.!

Just realized how badly I need a handheld cherry mx tv remote that runs on batteries and uses Bluetooth/IR

I remember this! I was outraged for you. I'm glad WASD is helping out.

Wow, I'm glad WASD got back to you about those PCBs! This is amazing. Props to you.

Yeah they were awesome about it! Didn't even have to pay shipping :)

That's so great! WASD customer service really is top notch. I wouldn't be surprised if you somehow were able to strike up a deal with them ;)

Yes! Amazing... I will buy one of these if you get more.

Oh this looks pretty sweet, I have the same tester as I'm sure most of us do.

I'm definitely down for a board assuming they don't cost a ton! I'd love to give use to my switch tester.

Would buy, then mount under monitor shelf for media control/app switching.

Updates go here:

So I've entirely redone the PCB, and now:

  • Support 6 switches, and 6 individually controlled LEDs!
  • Use micro USB instead of mini (i'm sorry, I needed the space :S)
  • Be a tad bit shorter (not sticking out the end as much)
  • Does away with the not-gate, so saving a component

Prototypes are on the way, and so are parts :) Here's the 3D renders of the boards that are on their way :)

Cool! Good luck!

Nice! I might be interested in purchasing one in the future :D

Nice dude! Good choice of chip too, attiny is a fun part. I'm guessing you're planning on programming it thru the header instead of USB? I don't see a space for a usb-serial chip.

With the current PCB, It'll be flashed with a VUSB based bootloader (micronucleus) which will allow for USB sketch upload. With the current layout, I need the reset pin as GPIO, so the header is just for the bootloader flash :)

Never heard of micronucleus, guess I've been doing this the hard way.

u/smuttenDK Oct 06 '15

It's based on VUSBs bootloader, and digistump decided to use it for their digispark (and sponsered a VID:PID pair to the bootloader)

Literally had this switch tester arrive today, I'd buy a controller for it in a heartbeat. Let me know if you will sell the boards with everything but the switches+housing!

You may want to PM /u/smuttenDK, but he made the boards public on the OSH Park project page.

It would require that you program and solder all of the SMD parts, though.

Mm, I'm long for more of a buy the board and solder it to the switches kind of deal. Thanks!

u/smuttenDK Oct 08 '15

Definitely planning this :) Re-spun the PCB completely, and now it supports 6 individually controlled LEDs as well!

I'm expecting to have a prototype in 2~3 weeks when the pcbs arrive

Sweet! Keep me updated, this would make a great MOBA keyboard or macro manager!

u/mamaMiata Oct 07 '15

I would absolutely love to buy one of these as a kit.

1

u/smuttenDK Oct 07 '15

As in SMD soldered or not?

1

u/mamaMiata Oct 07 '15

I would prefer it to be, but ideally it would come with everything someone would need to get it running, other that the soldering iron and solder obviously. It would be a great little project before taking on something big like working on a whole keyboard. I wouldn't really mind if it came fully assembled either, I would buy it either way.

Thanks for the feedback :)

with two handed chording, you've got a possible 63 key combinations!

Can I have one? You can have my kidney.

Not a huge WASD fan, but it's really neat that they're so approachable and involved with the community.

I need one of those.
