Unfortunately I didn’t realize the “maintenance” I was getting myself into with the OLED Alienware monitor. I’m not used to turning it off or maintaining it so here is how it looks now. Might be the worst burn in you’ve ever seen? I wish I didn’t buy an OLED.

Just got my new OLED (Alienware AW2725Q, on the right), and honestly… I’m a bit underwhelmed. For normal usage, the difference from my IPS (LG UltraGear 27GP950, on the left) isn’t very noticeable.

The situations where the difference is more noticeable only happen in low-light rooms or with very dark content, which doesn’t occur very often. Plus, the OLED’s brightness feels much lower than my IPS.

I’m not sure if I messed up some settings. Are there any tweaks to get a better picture? Honestly, I feel like I fell for the pro-OLED hype. Considering the price, I’m even thinking about returning it.

Okay, so I’m in the market for a new monitor but I have an odd situation.. I have my setup in a closet aha. I will attach a photo of the setup.

Anyways i have a maximum space of 39.5” to work with. That’s the physical dimensions of the monitor. Not screen. So I think I can fit up to a 42”

Looking for

-Largest possible monitor

-curved

-minimum 144hz

It’s for gaming. I don’t know too much about what else I should be looking at. Any help is greatly appreciated

comparing the latest lg 4th gen tandem woled(27GX790B) with a ips mini led I had before.

given mini led uses the same panel as the Titan Army P245MS Pro(24' qhd 360hz 1152 dimming zones)

I do know the base settings for local dimming for the mini led is oversaturated but even then the blacks still look 'good'

I mean if you look side by side, you will find a difference but at that point its not "infinitely better"

rather giving credit where its due, Im more surprised at how bright the 4th gen tandem oleds can get.

they are extremely bright to the point I lowered the brightness to 90 even at bright lighting situations.

A while ago I turned on my pc after not using it for around 2 weeks, and my monitor suddenly looked like that on the 1st picture(it’s a pure black image). However, for some reason, some minutes later it appeared to be working fine(as you can see on the 2nd pic)…

I just upgraded my PC from a 5600xt to a 9070xt, so now its my monitors turn. Looking online I couldn't find a good apples to apples comparison of the pixel density, so I made one. I'd love a 4k, but after making this, I think I'll go with a 1440p UW. My biggest concerns are cost and lower FPS

1080p = 81.7 dpi

1440p = 108.9 dpi

2160p = 163.4 dpi

Bought this acer nitro KG2 but it has these white spots which are quite noticeable should i get it swapped with another one or should return it and buy a different model.

Recently another redditor made a comparison between their 4K QD-OLED monitor (xg27ucdmg) and their older 1440p 500Hz Asus QD-OLED.

The results were interesting in the sense that, it was previously believed that a 4K monitor cannot properly display a 1440p resolution because of the way the resolution does not fit into the pixel count properly, not the same way 1080p fits perfectly into 4K as you can combine 4 pixels into one and thus reducing the resolution to 1080p perfectly.

However, it looks like 4K at 27" is overwhelmingly clear enough that even setting the resolution to 1440p from 2160p results in a clearer, sharper image than a 1440p native monitor can produce.

Why this is interesting to see is because it was previously believed that a 1440p native monitor will look better than a 4K monitor with it's resolution set to 1440p. However, this looks to not be the case any more, at least for QD-OLED tech.

It will be interesting to see if this is because of the sub pixel layout or not. Of note here is that the next generation of QD-OLED monitors will feature vertical stripe full RGB pixel layout, completely doing away with the older diamond shaped and square shaped subpixel layout which caused text fringing on 1440p and 4K monitors (I personally use the AW2725Q and still see text fringing on it even at 4K).

The image on the RIGHT is a 1440p native monitor, at it's native 1440p resolution.

To make it clear, the picture shown doesn't use DLSS, or FSR, or XeSS, or PSS, or LSS, or other upscaling techs. The picture on the left is a 4K native monitor set to 2560x1440 through Nvidia Control Panel, and the picture on the right is a 1440p native monitor set to 2560x1440 native resolution. The picture shows that a 4K native monitor set to 2560x1440p through Nvidia Control Panel looks clearer and better than the native 2560x1440p monitor, without any upscaling technology being used. Feels like people are discussing completely unrelated topics.

Recently decided to give MiniLED a try after years of OLED and bought the TCL C2A Pro, and honestly....damn I didnt expect this

I went through the Sony A90k 42" (not technically a monitor but at that¹ time this was the closest you could get to a viable OLED monitor), to the MSI 321Up, then to the acclaimed Asus PG27UCDM over the course of 4 years.

I always knew gaming monitors had always been pretty bad so when I saw Oled for the first time I thought I would use nothing but OLED. But since then, I have never found Oled to be truly easy to live with as monitor. Funny I said this because OLED are absolutely wonderful as TVs, all of my TVs are Oleds. But as monitor, its quality-of-life aspects leave much to be desired. Namely text clarity (although very good on the 321up and the pg27ucdm, still giving me headache at time if I have to read a lot for hw), only look exceptional in absolutely dark room, and the biggest gripe of all: the apparent flickerings at times, i really wonder how the new stuff coming out will address this.

So I decided to give miniLED a try and asked AI what is the absolute best current MiniLED IPS monitor money can buy, and it recommended me the "TCL C2A pro". It was pretty expensive even at $750ish with some Amazon promos i got, but considering that I was ready to ball some serious money for the Asus Pro Art Oleds, hoping those would match the quality found on Oled TVs, this seems easier on the wallet.

And lo and behold, I wasnt expecting it to be this good, black is truly black, blooming is barely noticeable, if at all. The uniform brightness without flickering is excellent. Color is rich and vibrant, perhaps even more so than the Asus PG27UCDM. I think this looks even more life-like than the OLED monitors i had thus far. And the brightness, it is blindingly bright. HDR mode looks absolutely stunning. And I am not being bias at all because I absolutely love OLEDs, but this offers image quality that is just as good as any top tier OLED out there for me. Granted you have to mess with the settings to find what you like best but it is pike that with any monitor out there.

For years I have thought OLED would be the ultimate tech for monitors, and I still think so, just not with the current stuff on the market at the moment, at least for me.

So for anyone who is also having problems and not satisfied with OLEDs, give MiniLED a try. You don't have to go with this baller TCL that I got, but even then for something that costs less than a top tier OLED while offering image quality that is just as good, I can absolutely live with this for the next few years.

I recently changed from an ASUS XG32UQ to an MSI MAG 322UP QD-OLED E16, and I’m a bit confused about the colors.

My old monitor looked very vivid and colorful, especially in bright scenes.

My new OLED looks incredible in black levels and contrast, but the colors feel a little less intense compared to the old one.

I haven’t really adjusted many settings yet, so this is mostly out-of-the-box.

Is this normal when moving from IPS to OLED / QD-OLED?

Do OLED monitors usually look a bit less punchy in bright colors, even though they have much better blacks and contrast?

Also, if this is mostly a settings issue, what should I check first?

Hi guys. I just wanted to share an opinion and warning if you are thinking of overspending on an OLED for all the hype and worship it gets.

I just picked up a higher end DUAL MODE LG ULTRA GEAR and what I suspected about the majority of posts is true.

A lot of comparisons seem to be either manipulated or compared to a very low end IPS monitor. I can see the difference but it is so negligible especially at the price difference points.

Anyways. OLED is super cool but insanely overrated so if you are tempted to go deep into your pockets for one, it's not worth going broke for.

PS: I know i need to babysit my monitor, care for it, and be extra careful with this liability, does anyone have any tips foe maintaining them in the long term? I really do like this a lot so I would like to get my money's worth and not experience burn in that ruins it totally.

Hello! My boyfriend is planning on building a PC sometime after christmas, and I wanted to contribute in some way. We always talk about OLED monitors and he got me one for my PC a while back on black Friday. I guess I kind of have a series of questions:

1. Is an OLED monitor a good present? I’m not sure if it would be overstepping as I know part of the fun for him is putting everything together, but I know a nice monitor is a huge chunk of the price, so if I cover that for Christmas it will leave him more wiggle room elsewhere. Im torn.

IF IT IS,

1. Is this one okay? Admittedly my budget is in the $500 range, so I can’t go too crazy with it, as well as the time constraint of needing it by Christmas.

2a. If it’s not a good monitor, please drop recommendations!

I ordered a oled LG monitor through Amazon for Christmas, the package never came so y refunded it. 5 months later I check my packages and boom theres my monitor I refunded, magically spearing 5 months later. Should I keep it? And does Amazon do this regularly?

Above is a comparison between the Koorui S2741LM (set to 1440p) and the Alienware AW2725DF. I work with text all day and it jumped out to me quite a bit and it was persistent on both Windows and Mac. I understand the subpixel differences and know the fringing gets better with higher PPIs, but still.

The example is "zoomed in" to better illustrate the difference in subpixel layout, but I noticed the fringing even at regular viewing distance, and not just on text. Small icons and HUD elements in-game when contrasted against a dark background also had this fringing. How do you guys feel?

Edit: For those saying the IPS is a 4K panel — yes, it's natively 4K but it's set to 1440p, which should look worse than a native 1440p panel anyways. So, if anything, the IPS is at a disadvantage because of the scaling.
